We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Facebook announced it is changing its name to Meta in a rebranding effort. Is our fellow HfPer Meta going to sue for copyright infringement?

    • His Holyness says:

      If he’s a beta

    • meta says:

O wow! Actually maybe I should given someone hacked by FB account during covid and FB allowed them to purchase £700 worth of ads via my Paypal account… It all ended well in the end, but I am not using FB anymore😀

      • meta says:

I am definitely not changing my handle here though and happy to not post again if I am banned by HfP for using that handle.

        • AJA says:

Oh no. Please do not stop posting. That would be a terrible day for all of us.

    • Phil W says:

Not sure you can blame Facebook/Meta for that though!!!

    • Char Char says:

My Creation call today about my black and white IHG cards.
Phoned using standard credit card number, went through all menu options with my card number and they cut me off! Tried again but at the input card number section I did nothing and I got through ok in 10 – 15 minutes. It looked as if they were screening out my first call but who knows.
Slightly sympathetic person took the call. Here is my Q&A.
Q1 No September 2021 statements on either of my cards.
A – Problem uploading these and they offered to post me a copy.
Q2 No IHG points transferred this month after statement.
A – Creation will not be sending me ANY further IHG points. Reason – Clause 14.
Q3 – Reason for closing cards.
A – They don’t need to give me this. Reason – Clause 14.
Q4 Asked for copy of T&Cs in relation to Creation operation of card rewards scheme.
A – CS operative was unsure and will email someone to ask.
Q5 Refund of £99 fee paid at the card anniversary in the summer.
    A – No. Reason – Clause 14.
Q6 My IHG hotel certificate earned since card anniversary in the summer.
    A – No. Reason – Catch 22! …. sorry Clause 14.
I was told someone would phone me next week to get back to me on Q4 and they would reconfirm answers to Q2, Q5 and Q6. If I am still unhappy, they offered to instigate a complaint at that time.
I politely noted that Creation seemed to be making up the rules and they go along and their treatment of me was unfair in contravention of finance company’s rules. The CS rep was slightly sympathetic. They have a script after all.
It appears to me that the absence in Clause 14 of any mention of the ongoing operation of the card is being used by Creation as reason just say no to everything.
My cards are now in the drawer and I will be submitting a complaint next week.

    • Froggee says:

It would make me laugh if they got their clause 12 and clause 14 mixed up. They’re nuts.

      • Anna says:

Does it say in either 12 or 14 that they can suddenly withdraw benefits without any notice?
People should be asking for (or making their own) recordings of these calls.

        • Magarathea says:

          I did that.

        • stevenhp1987 says:

I made a DSAR which could be why I was section 12’d… Not cost. effective!

They’ve still not responded almost a month later though.

    • DJ says:

In the same situation as others, where no points were sent across to IHG. I remember someone mentioned it was caused by an outage, but based on the above, is it safe to assume that they have breached the contract by not giving the 60-day notice on the points earned?

If so, I will then add this to the complaint that I have already raised. Thanks

    • stevenhp1987 says:

      Q4 answer: https://www.creation.co.uk/ihgcctermsandconditions

Can only withhold points if account not in “good order”.

Seems like they’re ignoring their own t&c at every opportunity though!

      • Blair says:

It’s all quite hilarious. You’d think the middle managers scripting these calls would recognise it is them who will be in peril if they get caught (rightly) in widespread compo

        • Tw33ty says:

I got my appeal letter from them, and it said I could still earn points up to the 3rd December, points didn’t come over this month, but kept the letter.

      • Magarathea says:

        Thanks. Appreciate the link.

    • BrianS says:

      Unbelievable it really is.

I’ve just had my £99 taken and sounds like chances of getting that back or a free night are slim to none. On top of that no points going across my It’s daylight robbery.

    • QFFlyer says:

Ridiculous responses on all counts. I’ve submitted my initial complaint now, why wait any longer.

  • Oli says:

I’ll be travelling back to England on Sunday and am vaccinated. Do I need to book LFT for my kids who are 5 and 8 years old?

    • Chrisasaurus says:

Depends where you are flying from, but not to enter the UK or for Day 2, no

      • Oli says:

I am flying back from France, and am asking for Day 2

        • Anthony says:

Yes you do. There is no where to put it on the form, but according to the rules you need to have booked them.

          • Michael C says:

Yes you do, and the form now says “do you also wish to complete a form for a minor?”.

  • AL says:

Enterprise Plus (and, presumably, National Emerald Club) status extended again until end of Feb ’23: https://www.enterprise.co.uk/en/loyalty/tier-extension.html

  • Harrier25 says:

I feel that it’s time to thread all Creation cards and put it down to a distasteful experience. I’ll be amazed if FOS entertain this and they’re in a complete mess anyway. I’m now concentrating on Amex, Virgin Atlantic and Hilton Barclaycard. Haven’t got the time to play around with stupid Creation and building up points in dreadful hotel brand such as IHbloodyG!

    • Harrier25 says:

In fact, shred your Creation cards cos they’re not worth threading. Lol

    • Aston100 says:

But if it costs them everytime someone raises the matter with the ombudsman, then it must be worth it?

      • Blair says:

Exactly; for the sake of an hour on a wet Saturday surely it’s worth frustrating them with a FOS complaint

      • Harrier25 says:

No it doesn’t because FOS will take a handful and make a ruling on them for all the complaints. Plus you’ll be waiting for a few years because they’re overrun and are struggling to cope. To many contributors here think that the FOS are their Fairy Godmother, well I can assure you that they are nothing of the sort.

        • John says:

          +1

        • Lady London says:

Agree FOS is in a mess, also FOS can make perverse judgments and court goes the other way.

Hopefully FOS will gather up all the different complaints that Creation has let themselves in for – and luckily there is a mechanism where reasonable complaints cost them money at FOS. But more than that admin, stress, and a black mark against Creation in public records.

Certainly I can see 2 definite breaches of contract at an absolute minimim likely 4 or so for some and that’s MCOL territory to pursue the loss.

At FOS and MCOL there is overlapping territory in what you’re claiming under MCOL and complaining to FOS about so if I had the IHG card and was being mistreated I’d be doing both.

    • Anna says:

Thread them – are you making some kind of necklace, Harrier25?! It could be a HFP jewellery range I suppose.
Can’t think we have much longer with the Hilton card either, tbh.
The 3 Kimptons I have stayed in this year have been fabulous, I’ve got a second stay booked at the Edinburgh one at Christmas and will probably continue to stay in them regardless of what happens with Creation.

      • Harrier25 says:

3 good Kimpton’s plus a few decent Intercontinentals and Crowne Plaza’s amongst what is basically a total pile of ****, Anna!

        • stevenhp1987 says:

I got my IHG card in January last year.

Has been really useful. We look at the weather around the UK. Find somewhere sunny and book a generic HI/HIX for free over the weekend so I can go hiking in the sunshine.

Going to be a shame once our points are gone! 92 nights since July 4th last year and counting!

For some people a hotel is just a place to sleep.

      • Harry T says:

Only stayed at the Kimpton in Paris but I was very impressed (room related hiccups aside). I booked a lot of weekends in the Kimpton Not So Secret sale for the Edinburgh and Amsterdam Kimptons.

    • stevenhp1987 says:

Use creation then pay it off with the latter two (both currently fine) and fight for your points. You don’t lose out compared to using the latter two directly.

Quite hypocritical of them to moan about using a credit card as a debit card considering how you can pay it off!

      • Harrier25 says:

I’ve been building up Hilton points courtesy of Creation for quite a few years, but have been concerned that my new VA card may incur a cash advance fee. Great if it doesn’t as that would be another option to reach the £3k target!

        • stevenhp1987 says:

I’ve not used VS+ for anything else for over a year… Doesn’t mean they won’t implement fees in the future though!

          • Harrier25 says:

Virgin can introduce what they want from January, it only interests me until my Creation December statement 😃

        • Lady London says:

Possible things like cash advance fees are excluded from counting towards targets. Look in the ts and cs.

    • Char Char says:

It takes very little effort to write some emails and file some claims and is surely worth it for the value being lost through 1. Annual fee 2. Lost free night 3. points not being sent. For most this is several hundred at least plus time dealing with the rubbish

      • Lady London says:

Partial free night accrued or its value since closure is unilateral and you were incentivised to spend towards it and they deprived you of the chance. So ask for compo pro rata.

Loss of use if they implemented any change before they’d given 60 days notice and notice time 60 days had elapsed.

Assuming you weren’t going against the operating conditions that were notified to you when you took out the card plus any changes you’ve had the notice period for. Not whatever Creation might say are their ts and cs they’re operating now.

  • Tw33ty says:

In light of Facebook rebranding your meta, maybe creation should rebrand.
    Any suggestions?
I’m thinking flop or something like that

  • Joe says:

Does anyone know if you BA FTV just one person on a booking?

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Anyone posting anything not related to creation, please start with ‘off topic’.
Too many random posts distracting from the focus on creation.

    • ChrisBCN says:

Should you have flagged your own comment as ‘off topic’ as it was about posts not related to creation, or was your post ‘on topic’ as it mentioned creation?

    • stevenhp1987 says:

But your post didn’t start with ‘off-topic’. You’ve broken your code.
