Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Sorry, I realise this query has been covered but I wanted some references to use. I have had my Vueling flight changed (late Nov). A 2 hour direct flight is now a 7 hour indirect flight leaving later in the day.
Can I confirm that i can ask Vueling to book me on another Airline which is direct and leaves at a similar time? If so, is this still EU261?

If they say no, what action can I take?

    Thank you

    • Babyg says:

Was your original flight cancelled (and you were rebooked on the 7 hour indirect?) if so you are entitled to be re-routed at YOUR convivence, not the airlines. If you can get through to them they should move you to a flight, and given its with the same airline it shouldnt be an issue…

      • Pete M says:

You can ask Vueling for anything you want, but chances of them playing ball are slim. You may need to enforce your rights via MCOL once you’ve bought your replacement ticket, but obviously consider the refund you could get from Vueling vs the new ticket cost and whether it’s worth pursuing.

      • Venturelog says:

Yes flight was cancelled. However they have no other direct flights going to the same destination. There are other airlines that do have a direct flight and similar time.

        @Pete M
If I do go the MCOL route would I need to accept the refund and then pay for the new flight? I don’t want to lose my rights by accepting a refund. The replacement ticket by other airlines is more expensive than what I paid.

        • ChrisBCN says:

I had a Vueling flight cancel yesterday, I rebooked myself on another airline and refunded as the cost was only a euro or two different.

Will the new flight cost you more than the refund you could get? If so, rebook yourself and then take the refund.

          • ChrisBCN says:

            I meant less, not more.

          • Venturelog says:

Yes the cost of the new flights from Heathrow (ignoring FR from STN) would cost more than the refund
I’ll get on the phone to them to see what they will do.

        • memesweeper says:

          Do *NOT* accept the refund.

Make it clear, in writing, the direct flight(s) you expect on the day(s) you expect them to organise this and provide screenshots of times/prices of acceptable alternative carriers. Provide them with a reasonable time to respond. Make it clear you will proceed to MCOL for the cost of the flights you quoted to them as examples (or more if the price has gone up) if they do not book the flights for you.

If they don’t do what you insist on, within the appropriate time, go ahead and book the flights you need, and MCOL for the full amount of the new flights, plus any costs, damages or interest that might be appropriate.

          • Pete M says:

memesweeper covered it in detail, Venturelog. Just bear in mind you will have to pay a fee to go to MCOL and will spend a fair amount of time on this. I am not sure if I would personally bother for a difference under £100.

          • Venturelog says:

            Thanks both.

  • Jord says:

Looks like Ba have been moving their domestic schedule. Going out we only have a 60 minute connection time- there are 7 of us, do you think they will offer the tight connection tarmac transfer? (2 business, rest economy including myself but gold & 2 year old). Return, they’ve rebooked us onto a domestic flight that leaves 35 minutes before the international flight even lands at heathrow… We will now have to move to the next flight which is a 7 hour wait, probably unlikely they will let us all in the lounge. However, i want to move 1 passengers return flight by a week, will i be able to do this with the flight change? (also this is a BAH booking)

    • Babyg says:

Your options depend on a number of factors, are all flights on the same PNR, or are they a mixture of flights youve stitched together. For the changes are you still on the same flight number, with adjusted times, or do you you have new flight numbers, the later opens up all possibilities for you… oftern it takes the robots a while to catchup and i suspect they will move you non-connecting flight so you can connect again.. (7 hour wait)

    • Andrew says:

60 minutes should be fine to connect at Heathrow if the departing flight is also from T5.

When is the holiday? Unless it’s within the next week, give things time to settle down a bit. The opening up of the US is likely to mean a boost to domestic connections too.

      • Sam G says:

Yes 60mins at T5 off of a domestic to another T5 flight is fine, there isn’t a security check just a scan and photo and off to your new gate. If it’s T5-T3 then it needs to be minimum 90mins anyway so you’ll be rescheduled

You should be OK to move one passenger to another date – if it were BA flight only then no problem , not sure how BAH impacts this you’d need to speak to them

    • Jord says:

Thanks, We’re on two bookings, 1 booking has 2x business flights other has 5 economy. Yes the rebooked flights are different flight numbers entirely. So as its different flight number i could split 1 passenger off the BAH booking and rebook him to return the week before.

Andrew- these are over new year, so can give it a few weeks to let the schedules settle.

    • Jord says:

Also another thought can i upgrade just the return domestic connection to receive the lounge access? Looking at the cost of purchasing a ticket it’s only £20 more than the economy fare

  • Jonathan says:

I am wanting to cancel a BA booking online made within the last 24 hours. I want the FTV, and doing it online via MMB this seems possible but will they actually issue the FTV or will they automatically do a refund instead?

    • Babyg says:

You want the FTV (guess youre extending a 241 or something), you can get a full refund is done in the last 24hours… online you fill the form in and you will get an FTV (thou ive never done this within 24hours of booking)

      • Jonathan says:

I bit the bullet, cancelled the booking i made just 30 minutes before and have received the FTV i was hoping for. Also they say the FTV will be issued within 7 days, more like within 60 minutes for me today.

    Revolute or CHE

In my app I can see I have EURO account.
Can I use the debit card for payments in EURO?
Also can I withdraw cash while in EU from my EURO balance without any charge using the same debit card ?

  • Paul says:

With the recent Amex supplementary promo of spend £500 on first supp within 3 months for a further 3k bonus, did it have an end by date in October? I notice many have now received theirs, however I’m just shy of the spend requirement and yet still have a few weeks of the 3 months since application left to make it, however I had seen an October end date also mentioned. Just wondering if anyone is able to clarify? Can’t seem to find any T&C online

    • Froggee says:

Yes – it was 31 October. Ts and Cs are still live – someone posted the link a while ago. I kept it. Yours for free!

    • Youllnever says:

I’m not sure that you’ll still get the spend bonus. The T&C does say: “The second bonus 3,000 Avios will be awarded to the Account once the Supplementary Cardholder has been successfully approved and they charge £500 to that Supplementary Card before 31/10/2021.”

      • Youllnever says:

Correction – I think the safest bet is to meet your spend by the end of this week. Don’t think the three month spend is from your approval date but rather the start of the promotion date.

I have IHG points I want to use on a New York stay in early January. I have Ambassador/Plat and a free night certificate.

Any recommendations based on booking either one of the IC’s or one of the Kimptons.
Have been to NYC quite a few times but not in January! No particular tourist attractions on my list.

    • ChrisC says:

Rob wrote a review about the IC Barclay. Recall he had some issues with it but again IIRC it was from a couple of years ago. It’s also closer to Grand Central than Times Square.

I booked the Eventi for January (using their secret sale rate a few weeks ago) as that looked good plus it was near subway and where I wanted to be.

Not 100% sure if being able to use the BOGOF cert applies to Kimptons any day of the week next year or if it reverts to just being ICs

Been to NYC a few times in January. Can get cold but the weather generally pretty good and even if there is a snow storm the subway usually keeps running in the central area and the roads get cleared pretty quickly.

      • njb says:

They are letting me use certificate for the Kimptons still.
Barclay would be great if the lounge was open but it is still closed.

  • SB says:

Question on vaccination status for entering U.K. Someone I know has a single entry on the NHS app saying they have had a second dose of Pfizer, but there is no record of a first dose.

Would this be enough to allow entry to U.K. without quarantine?

    • MW says:

Depends if the PLF is going to accept it – typically it requires a scan of your 2nd dose barcode, so it may work. In any case, you should try to get it fixed.

Are you sure you haven’t got an arrow to move between the 2 barcodes?

    • Rhys says:

Yes – the PLF only requires a scan of the second dose QR code.

    • Tracey says:

Do they know why this happened? First dose overseas? Only had one dose? Admin error?
The rules are clear that 2 jabs are needed to avoid isolation, even if you can by pass the admin.

      • Rhys says:

It sounds like they have had two jabs, they just aren’t showing correctly.

    • ChrisC says:

What does it show if they download the cert as a PDF?

I’d also be tempted to get the free letter they can send you if you ask.

  • Andrew says:

Pretty messy comms from Amex on today’s ‘bonus points’ offer – got an email for my Platinum card about it with the title, text and detail saying spend £1 get 100 MR, and a big golden spinning coin in the middle saying 50 Avios.

    • MW says:

Nothing on my Business Platinum, but got a “generous” spend £1 to get 50 Avios on the BAPP. It’s (almost) the season of giving!

    • Duncan says:

      Ditto! 😆
Seems the text varies for the recipient, but they didn’t bother to make two images!
