We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have 2 easy jet flights on one booking, they have a free change policy, Is there any way to change them both into one flight as in turn the value of both flights into one more expensive flight?
The system is not built for that, wondering if there is any way around?
    Thanks

    • GaryE says:

Call them – have found them very helpful regarding flight changes and they answer the phones promptly – a complete different experience from BA

      • Js says:

They are bound to the software – which is a stubborn one.
(Works in your favour, sometimes but not always)
        Looking for a way around

    • Lady London says:

Yes. Take a refund? Or a voucher, if you fall into a category that is offered one of these

  • Char Char says:

Data point, I have noticed that it’s possible to buy crypto with Curve and certain cards that don’t pass on cash fees, the only fees are the crypto exchanges which are often hefty but an option if buying for longer terms.

    • JDB says:

I see they have a BlockFi Rewards Visa card in the US that offers 1.5% back in Bitcoin on every purchase!

      • Yorkie Aid says:

I think that card has been around for a year or two at least. I remember looking into it but I have some vague recollection that it wasn’t that easy to actually ever get your Bitcoin out. I’m sure it had a minimum withdrawal of something like $1000 although I may be confusing it with another product.

    • Tom says:

Want to be more specific with whbuy from where and with what card?

      • JDB says:

That’s what the card is called. I came across it has there was an announcement from Visa on Bloomberg about joint MC as an investor in Deserve, the issuer of the card.

    • Alan says:

Not saying it isn’t worthwhile in some places, but worth remembering that crypto transactions are specifically against curve T&Cs

  • mark2 says:

Does anyone know if he Platinum £200 dining refund will work with a UK card used in Mexico?

    • Andrew says:

If there are any restaurants listed as participating in Mexico then yes.

  • Kevin D says:

Guys does anyone know if the business lounge in Malaga Airport is open? I think its a Sala VIP Lounge. Does my Priority Pass get me a guest in?
    Cheers

  • Boi says:

There was talk about Binance being unregulated and one to avoid. This got me worried as I have crypto worth over $20K in there at today’s prices.

    Where should I move it:
    1. I usually transfer USD from revolution.
    2. I like ability to set orders which will trigger when the price is right (Toro for example doesn’t have this functionality esp when I want to sell).
    3. I would like to earn rewards.

    • Boi says:

      toro is etoro!

    • Alan says:

      Crypto.com

Depending on your bank and their crypto-friendliness consider getting a monzo account or similar to act as a gobetween

    • Anuj says:

Convert to lychee in bananas then transfer to coinbase, kraken, Gemini etc and then convert back to btc. I like Gemini because of their free withdrawal fees even for btc

  • Rosie says:

The Dixon London (Marriott ) didn’t give me late check out today even though I’m a plat member , I had to check out at 12 even though I referred to T&C saying it’s guaranteed blar blar

Any redress / compensation due if I email in to complain

    • Harry T says:

Thank you for naming and shaming. It’s worth complaining to Marriott Bonvoy but it’s hard to say whether anything will come of it.

    • TGLoyalty says:

You can phone Marriott and ask them log a complaint.

Was it the general manager that denied it? Strange on a Wednesday morning!

      • meta says:

I would have just stayed in the room unless I needed to go out and do something. I would also call Marriott on the spot and ask them to speak to the hotel. There is a procedure outlined on Flyertalk on how to go about it.

  • Oz says:

    Hi,

Which Day 2 Test is preferred by HfPers? For me, Randox is 40 min drive away and Testing for All is sold out for the day of my arrival.

Does the free NHS Lateral Flow test kit work for PLF? Many thanks

  • Vit says:

Hello, sorry me again. I have a 241 to be used by 28th May 2022. My understanding is I can “extend” this fly-out-by date by make booking using the 241 and then call in to turn it into FTV which I think valid till April 2023? By doing so, I can use this FTV to book any flight even after 28th May 2022, subject to availability. Is my understanding correct?
    Cheers,
    Vit

    • Keely says:

Has to be same passengers and there has to be avios availability but any destination . I think FTV use by date is now Sept 2023 too but someone else will be along to confirm that …

      • Vit says:

Thanks Keely. Do you know if I can combine this FTV with other FTV (I have from the 50% avios off sale)? Basically a frozen avios + frozen voucher & avios if that makes sense.

    • ChrisC says:

You don’t need to call to turn it to an FTV.

Use the form on the BA covid pages.
