We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Good morning, fellow insomniacs!
Vit – in answer to your question last night, you can indeed mix cabins on a 241 booking. You need to select the “stopover” option which then allows you to select your cabins individually. However, as you don’t pay any avios for the domestic connection, the only saving will be the difference in the RFS cash element between economy and business on that leg (though of course this could add up if, for example, you were travelling as a family group).
It’s also useful to know if you’re getting “no availability” as sometimes it’s just the domestic leg that’s the issue, but the system doesn’t tell you that!

    • Vit says:

Hi Anna, thanks very much. That’s clear. I don’t mind mixing the economy with J or F as we are not going to have many luggage anyway. We just want the suitable departure time from INV. I am thinking of calling in to book via CS but probably very difficult to get through! 😀

      • Anna says:

You don’t need to call, you can select any suitable departure time when you make the booking, don’t put yourself through the stress of calling if you don’t need to!

  • Danny says:

The spend £1 collect 50 Avios promotion is back for November on my BA Amex card!

  • Roy says:

December in Romania, currently adults with full vaccination do not require quarantine but children between 12 to under 16 need PCR test if not fully vaccinate.
I am not sure if children with one vaccination count as fully vaccinated?

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

They’ll still need the test as unless they have the J&J vaccination (is that even available in the UK?) they need two doses to be considered fully vaccinated. The one jab for under 16s seems very specific to the UK

    • Tracey says:

One dose vaccination for kids is unique to the UK and won’t be considered as fully vaccinated anywhere else. Some countries may consider a recent infection plus one vaccine as OK, though I wouldn’t recommend deliberately catching covid to get this status.

    • Roy says:

      Thank you for the reply.
Will need to arrange the test before travel.

    • John says:

This rule is rather odd because 3 out of 4 people you come across in Romania will be unvaccinated, especially children

  • Waddle says:

Is it possible to do a double cabin upgrade if there is reward availability in the final cabin but not in the middle? Eg if I wanted to go WTP -> First and there is availability in First but not CW?

    • Graham C says:

      UUA is one cabin only.

      • Mark says:

Depends of the original booking was avios or cash. If it was cash then no but if it was an avios booking and there is availability then yes.

        • Graham C says:

I stand corrected! Thanks very much for letting me know re Avios bookings.

  • Matthew says:

Anyone else having issues with Barclays app today? Just logged on and my premier account isn’t there for some reason? Chat unavailable. Not ideal on pay day! Hoping it’s a glitch.

    • Doogie says:

Same, can only see HH card, no bank account.

    • PMG says:

Yes having the same issue, can’t see my Premier Account in the app as well…

If you go to Transfer/Pay there seems to be a number you could call if needed?

      • Mike says:

I just checked – I can see my Premier Account on the app – also a reminder from Barclays that the clocks go back this Sunday (wish they had reminded me last weekend that they DIDN’T go back then)

    • Rich says:

Barclays are having hacker related performance issues today according to media.

  • TokyoFan says:

Sorry if this came up yesterday – but my 3,000 bonus MR on my Gold card posted yesterday for adding a supp and spending £500. Finally!

    • chris1922 says:

Just checked, me too, took ages !

    • AJA says:

Yes it was reported yesterday and the bonus Avios posted for me too.

      • Paul says:

I’ve not made the qualifying spend yet, albeit still within 3 months from applying for the supp., am I still eligible for this bonus? (if I make the qualifying spend)

  • Ashraj says:

Good morning. I’m off to Paris this weekend to stay at the new Kimpton. If anyone has stayed some local restaurant recommendations or anything else to that matter would be much appreciated.

Also did anyone take the Roissybus? It seems to be very convenient due to the hotels location.

    Thanks!

    • YC says:

Took the bus to the airport and it is indeed a very good way to travel to/from the airport and near the kimpton

      • Lyn says:

+1 for the Roissy Bus between CDG and the Opera. We always use this. Easy (even with luggage), convenient and relatively inexpensive.

It stops outside terminal 2A for British Airways. You have to backtrack a little to get into the terminal building at the moment as many doors of the doors are closed due to Covid precautions.

    • BJ says:

La Fermette Marbeuf 1900, years since I last had the pleasure but it was amazing 🙂 Suggest you check out recent feedback on it.

    • Reney says:

Ohh you are going to love it! You can walk to the hotel from the eurostar takes about half and hour. On the way back we took the metro which required one stop.

There is a bistro a couple of doors down recommended by the concierge which was very good, can’t remember the name thou, not pricey.

Do check if there are currently any Kimpton secret password going at the moment.

      • Reney says:

        one change *

        • Ashraj says:

Thanks for the replies. @BJ that restaurant seems to have closed down unfortunately.

          • Alex says:

Le Bon Georges was good and recommended by the concierge. Concierge had quite a few recommendations that we didn’t get to try but worth talking to them.

  • Nicky says:

Harry. re your response to me yesterday about my cancelled Heathrow flights, unfortunately the flight that has been cancelled is a connecting flight. I fly in from JFK and was supposed to get the 09.45 back to Newcastle. They gave me the next available … 14.40 but then cancelled that as well 5 minutes later (although still showing flying and availability at 10pm last night). The e-Mail said to contact them. Sat for 3 x 1hr (cut off after no reply after 1.02hr) so no joy there. Any suggestions anyone?

    • Graham C says:

Live chat on the contact us page? They sorted my holiday out.

    • Harry T says:

I still think you have the liberty of time. They keep changing the NCL-LHR and vice versa schedule – it’s affected my Cape Town holiday in January already. If your holiday isn’t in the next few weeks, you should be okay to wait a bit. You aren’t obliged to accept any of their changes.

Contacting BA is easiest if you ring the US number via Skype. The only tricky part is that BA holidays sometimes have different hours. You can also try Twitter or BA online chat. I’ve found the chat people useless though.

    • Sam G says:

BA have been taking their machete to their Euro schedules this week so lines are probably jammed. I’ve had multiple trips cancelled and all but one need to be refunded and switched to easyjet or Ryanair due to unsuitable remaining flight times

      • Nicky says:

Unfortunately BA is the only airline now that flies to Newcastle from Heathrow. Rang at 8am on the dot and sill waiting 20 minutes later

    • Jord says:

I’ve just had the same issue to NCL, coming back from MCO, they changed the 9:50 flight to 7.25 which leaves before the international lands. Next flight isn’t until 15:05 which isn’t going to be fun when half the group have no status

      • Nicky says:

After getting through after 55 mins, got told that they had to put me through to Avios line….another 45 minutes (luckily did not get cut off) I asked if I could come back a day earlier (which is what I originally tried to book but no Avios availability at time) so they are opening up 2 Avios seats for us Transatlantic as they had cancelled and am now back to the early morning connection a day earlier. Let’s hope they don’t mess around with that connection as well 🤞
