We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

3000 bonus avios for sup card spend over £500 just posted… Finally

    • AJA says:

Same here. This is actually a couple of days earlier than I was expecting, I thought it would post on 29 Oct. Great news anyway. Thanks for posting as it made me check.

    • Mike says:

Me too. The funny thing is, I didn’t read the article properly and applied for a sup card even though I already had one on my account. I still got the 3,000 initial and now the 3,000 spend bonus. I did wonder if the first sup card rule actually meant first card under this offer rather than first sup card on the account?

    • Youllnever says:

Weirdly only my Avios card one received the spend bonus. Still haven’t received the spend bonus for my MR card yet.

  • cabal of rabid baboons says:

    yup same here.

  • Aaron says:

Has anyone topped up Revolut with Virgin Atlantic CC before? Any experience with cash advance fees?

    • Reney says:

I recall getting charged last year when Bendy started passing through MCC. It was another massive chat thread day. Not topped up using that card since.

Some commentary recently seems to read like that is not applied to everyone. Unfortunately no one has posted an actually experience for ages (unless they did it really late in the evenings) so it will have to be a case of try a small amount and see. Pls do report back.

      • Aaron says:

There are some comments online talking about Revolut changing their MCC randomly, not sure if it’s worth the pain chasing for refund if that happens.

    • Jonathan says:

You will get hit, don’t do it !

    • Bigmaggot says:

I got charged cash advance a couple of weeks ago. I used Apple Pay beardy to top up to che if that’s makes a difference!

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Post your airport lounge drinking pics to this twitter thread 😁 https://twitter.com/bhx_police/status/1452684630428094466?s=21

    • Anna says:

Love the responses – especially the pic of the Concorde lounge!

      • BP says:

Brilliant! I remember drinking an entire bottle of LPGS in the CCR followed by another bottle on the flight to JFK. I’m surprised the customs agent could understand what I was saying when I reached JFK!!

        • Anna says:

Ahhh, my one and only visit to the CCR, on my birthday 2 years ago, quaffing LPGS with my scrambled eggs and smoked salmon while Mick Fleetwood serenaded the lounge on the piano!

          • BP says:

My wife and I always invite random people from South security to guest in too. It has made a few people’s day!

  • Terry S says:

Hi all. My TP year ends Sep 8th 2022. I’ve been told by BAEC that I only need to achieve 1125 TPs by that date to retain gold. I thought there was a June cut off but also that given my end date I needed to attain 1500?

    • AJA says:

The T&Cs on BA’s website says the reduced threshold is until 30 June 2022 so as I understand it if you earn 1,125 TP by 30 June 2022 you get promoted to or retain Gold. If you don’t do that by end of June then I think the normal threshold of 1,500TP applies .

When you say you’ve “been told by BAEC” was that speaking to an agent or do you have it in writing?

      • Terry S says:

Hi yes I talked to an agent this morning who didn’t know anything about the June cut off date. He said my account shows I just need to get 1125 tier points by September next year, which I think as you say is wrong.

  • Harley says:

BA have changed my DXB departure from 02:15 to 03:30, i understand from Robs article that any change by less than 4 hours can be rescheduled to another flight +/-2 days but im happy to keep same flight just means hanging around the airport for longer as would have checked out of hotel. Does anyone know if BA has any duty of care here or should offer food vouchers for the change or shall i exepct zilch?

    • AJA says:

I thought it was time changes greater than 4 hours that allow you to reschedule? I assume you have no status otherwise just enjoy longer in the lounge in DXB?

      • Anna says:

        +1, I don’t think you’d be entitled to anything for a change of 1 hour 15 mins.

    • Peter K says:

I’m sure the official duty of care vouchers are offered after 3hrs delay at an airport. I wouldn’t think such a small time change will give any benefits.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

3 hours before duty of care kicks in, sometimes they are flexible, pre covid particularly if it was there fault. But not for 1 hour 15, just grab a coffee or stay in a lounge longer

    • Blenz101 says:

Zilch. You are leaving in the middle of the night anyway so even if there was some kind of entitlement what would you even want.

If you haven’t eaten by 2.15am then getting a voucher at 3am will do nothing.

If you have access go to the Ahlan lounge where they set up the sofas for sleeping and provide blankets, should be able to grab an hours sleep before your flight.

      • Harley says:

According to this https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2020/10/24/british-airways-schedule-change-refund-4-hours/ its any time change to reschedule, but thanks for the replies. Indeed will probably stay longer in the lounge then

        • Harley says:

Che with his kindness has given me a free trial of premium which gives lounge key access to ahlan at £20pp , dont have status and flying club out but only WTP on return

        • Pete M says:

Are we reading the same article? Where does it say that?

        • AJA says:

Yes you are correct, the 4 hour rule is for a refund. Reschedule appears to apply to any time change. If you went for reschedule not sure what is gained as you’d have to leave on a different date within 2 days before or up to 2 days after the original departure date or (assuming BA or QR have availability) in the same class as original or if not available, the lowest class available in the same cabin. I think you’d be on the hook for extra hotel costs if you delayed the return as you are the one choosing an alternative flight to the one offered. BA’s offered flight is only 1hr15 different to original timing.

  • Louie says:

LHR – KUL – SYD on MH or LHR- HEL – HND on AY and HND – SYD on JL, both in J, next August? Similar timings (2x overnights).

    • AJA says:

Cash or Avios booking? The latter is an extra sector so earns more TP. Not sure if AY will automatically through check your bags onto JL though or are you breaking the journey in HND?

  • Louie says:

    AAdvantage reward actually.
