We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Good news alert. Booked myself into the new Aloft DXB Airport for a single night on an obscenely cheap rate (320AED). Hotel won’t be open for my dates (end of Nov), so they’ve moved me to Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre.

    Which is nice.

I quite liked the royal wing here as a platinum guest. I hope it’s open and you have access.

    • Babyg says:

      I might try this… i need a night for Dec 6 actually…

    • BP says:

Stayed there about 10 years ago while on a long connection with Emirates. It wasn’t that great back then.

  • Js says:

anyone having problems signing up to curve? (of course with HFP link)

    • Dave says:

Are you sure you want to do that?!

    • David says:

Really?! If you value any of your underlying cards, I’d avoid.

    • Andrew says:

Are people actually still wanting to sign up to Curve?

    • Travel Strong says:

I am now using it exclusively to store the barcodes of my loyalty / trade discount cards. Not a particularly valuable function!

But I imagine I may also use it for weekday foreign currency transactions when I finally spend in another currency again. (Backed by what, will be the question when the time comes. What can I still be able to earn?
Bearded Billionaire Beans? Orange Supermarket Nectarines? or ca$hbak from Mr Beans Naughty Accountant)

      • Youllnever says:

If you decide to move away from them, the Stocard app allows you to store your loyalty cards as well.

Dropped off my test at a Randox drop off this morning. Should I be worried that I haven’t received a notification that its in the lab as its evening now? I need the result tomorrow. If I receive notification that it’s in the lab tomorrow is that normal with result arriving sometime the same day? Just want to get an idea of what the time between notification and result is.

    • Save East Coast Rewards says:

You’ll likely get the notification overnight, the package has to get to Belfast. In my experience the notification always seems to arrive overnight.

However, make sure you have a plan B in case it doesn’t arrive in time.

    • Richie says:

My acknowledgement e mail for receipt at the lab was 5am and result e mail 3pm.

    • lumma says:

Dropped my randox test off on the 1st of September and I still haven’t heard from them.

  • Dave says:

Are you sure you want to do that?!

  • Sandra says:

Just checked my IHG account as Creation statement produced including transactions to 23/10 with £99 annual fee charged on 22/10. The points up to 23/10 have credited the IHG account and also the free night is showing valid until 25/10/22. As I’ve said before I’ve not received a cancellation letter so who knows what will happen with the account going forward!

  • Jonathan says:

What were to happen if you needed to cancel a flight booking that was made using a mixture of cash and FTV ?

I’m assuming you can just take another FTV for the total cost of the ticket, and it’s not ‘use it or lose your cash’ ?

    • Andrew says:

Yes a new FTV is issued for the full price you paid – cash and FTV combined. Repeat as you wish.

      • Jonathan says:

Thanks, I was almost certain this was the case, just making sure. Hopefully the flights I’m going to book I won’t have to cancel

  • Terri says:

Asking for some help to calculate tier points for a return flight to Florida using this routing:
London to Dallas -wtp – i think 90 tp
Dallas to Rsw – ba flight number, operated by Aa – no wtp so class assigned is Economy – could be 5,10 or 20 i think
    Return is easier
Rsw to Philly in Business – i think 40 tp
Philly to Lhr in business – i think 140 tp

How do i work out what the Dfw to Rsw tier points might be?
    Thanks
