We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

I have Randox Day 2 leftover kits from a trip about 2 months ago. Can they be used as a PCR test to travel to Abu Dhabi or will Randox see Day 2 and not process it as quickly.

    • Steve says:

The UAE requires tests for entry to be in-person. I’m not sure if the Randox certificate would reveal it was an at-home test, but I wouldn’t chance it (and that’s if they issue a certificate for a day 2 test, rather than just email the results).

      • a270 says:

Oh, that’s worrisome. Could anyone share their experience of using Randox postal PCR for Abu Dhabi?

My flight is on Wednesday morning so I don’t have much time. Is Collinsons near Heathrow my best bet for 3 hours PCR test or some other centre? I am in West London.

        • a270 says:

Do Randox give certificates for Day 2 and do they have a QR code?

          • meta says:

They actually do give a PDF certificate with QR by email, but it mentions that it was at home test. It won’t pass.

          • a270 says:

Thank you meta. I have looked on Etihad’s website and it constantly mentions Covid-19 PCR test. I can’t see where it says it has to be at a lab. This is so confusing!

  • David says:

The Amex travel offer is it per account or is it per card. Both me and my OH have the offer and it states in the terms and conditions per card – thanks folks.

    • Harry T says:

I think you’ve answered your own question!

    • Andrew says:

Thanks for mentioning this – it was only on the primary when it launched last week and now it’s showing on my supps. Might be worth people checking their supps too.

      • David says:

The problem is you cancel a booking it takes ages before the money reappears on your account.

        • Andrew says:

Why would I want to cancel the booking? Then I would lose the £100 credit. Much better to take a FTV.

          • David says:

Was talking about myself already had two existing bookings with Amex travel before the offer.

          • AD says:

Is it possible to get FTV for bookings with Amex travel? Thanks

  • Boi says:

Which countries in North America/Caribbean allow travel with unvaccinated children (under 16)?

Also can someone please point me to a reliable website where I can check entry requirements for different countries.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi,

Is the advice in the article linked below still valid as a way to extend a BA AMEX Companion Voucher? I have one due to expire in December 2021 and won’t be able to use it before then…

    https://hfp2022.headforpoints.blog/2021/08/06/how-to-extend-british-airways-amex-2-4-1-companion-voucher/

    Thanks.

  • BuildBackBetter says:

Anyone know how long it takes for in store transactions to track on Virgin shops away?

  • Simon Schus says:

Saw this on the BA page for claiming Avios and tier points on a partner page. Unsure if this was mentioned elsewhere, though I saw the announcement about household accounts:

“We are carrying out some planned improvements to the Executive Club, which means that you will be unable to claim missing Avios and Tier Points with our partners from 1 November to 17 November inclusive here or via your Contact Centre during this time.

Please make any requests prior to this date.

We appreciate your patience during this period.”

  • Ilou says:

    Hi everyone

Can I upgrade the return flight of an avios booking after the outbound flight ?

    Thnaks

    • Rob says:

Yes – I did it myself this week! Requires calling. There are issues with the tax calculation on a part-flown so it is likely that you will need to make a 2nd call to BA 2-3 days later to settle the additional taxes, once the fares department has done the maths. I paid an extra £86 to upgrade 2 x WTP to 2 x CW for a return flight.
