We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

To anyone that has recently got Amex platinum, how long did the priority pass take to arrive please ?

    • Mycity says:

2 weeks for my priority passes to arrive. In the meantime I called Amex who gave me my account number which allowed my to see up a virtual pass.

  • Jek says:

PayPal’s friends & family is a no-no for regular payments backed by a CC – does this also hold for Xoom? I have to make regular payments abroad and the Xoom fees would be fine if the payment could come from Amex. Any experience?

  • Super Secret Stuff says:

Just done a YouGov survey for the first time in forever, asked a couple of interesting goverment policy questions. The most relevant for H4P being about raising Air Passenger Duty and Great British Rail logos

Hoping to use Boots in person PCR for Dubai entry as we live more than an hour from airport on site testers . Website asks for payment before allowing access to booking , which is annoying as cannot ensure an appropriate time. Is this service reliable?
Also there is a space for discount code – does anyone have ?

    • Reney says:

I have 10% back when spending more than £10 at boots on several of my amex.

    • Anuj says:

Having same issue, you can phone to ask about appointments, sadly haven’t found any discount code and I think the payment isn’t presented as boots so can’t even use the Amex discount offer.

    • Tracey says:

You give you card details but they don’t actually take payment.

  • Mrs_Fussy says:

Has anyone managed to book Addison Lee recently ( trying to utilise my Amex credit and no cans available – tried numerous occasions over the past 3-4 weeks )

    • Rob says:

Had a similar issue last week. They have been caught out by the sharp pick up in demand – if you search you will see they are offering a guaranteed £5,000 for your first month if you go to drive for them. They are 1,000 drivers short.

    • Simon says:

Prebooking impossible. On demand has been around 10 minutes in West End on Saturday nights.

    • meta says:

      Used yesterday and no problem.

Could anyone advise re airport lounge please?

    1. OH opened an Amex Platinum earlier this week but the post has been and it hasn’t arrived today. We have a flight on Wednesday morning so it’s too late to add a supplementary for the trip re all 4 of us (2 adults and 2 kids over 12 years) having airport lounge access. Is there a way to use airport lounge access via Platinum but not have the physical card? We will receive OH’s card by Monday hopefully and add me as a supplementary but ofcourse the card won’t arrive. Can I show the supplementary as an online card like we can see our Curve card on the app? Just wondering if there is a way someone knows. Also, does OH need to register with Priority Pass or just scan his card at Heathrow and Abu Dhabi airports for 2 people to enter?

    2. OH also has HSBC Premier Card (not World Elite) but am confused as to the benefits saying he has to pay £20 per visit. Is that correct?

    • Blenz101 says:

See the comment an hour before your own. Call Amex and get the PP number and setup via app.

Should let you add a supp at the same but may take a little while for the PP number to generate. Again use via app rather than wait for card.

      2. Sounds right. Free lounge is WE benefit.

      • Saiz says:

Thank you. They did say you can’t add a supplementary yet as you need a 4 digit code. Should we call again?

        • Sam G says:

try new accounts on 08000327404 and see if they can process the supp by phone

Considering going to the O2 in London for the first time, for a concert. Had a look at the Amex offers, but the description is quite vague with their “premium seats with great view, fast-track entry, and lounge yaddayadda”. Considering I can get what looks like decent seats for a third of the price via normal booking, I’m sceptical of the value offered by Amex. Looking for people with first-hand experience to share their thoughts.

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

You get free entry to the Amex Yanky lounge if you go to guest services by the Amex entrance. Limited number so not guaranteed but does get fast track as well.

The seats are good but you’re still behind a disabled viewing platform (soz lol, they are great seats)

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Oh and with the tickets from Amex you basically get access to a part of the lounge with free canapés and drinks. But bearing in mind the lounge has some of the cheapest drinks in the O2 it’s not worth it IMHO

    • Richie says:

Do a thorough search to see what is possible, there’s a lot of reselling happening, check axs, ticketmaster, gumtree, shpock and facebook marketplace.

    • Distichon says:

Thanks for the replies, I think based on this I might go with some much cheaper tickets in the arena and just try my luck getting some of the other benefits by showing up early at the Amex counter.

  • David says:

Does anyone know how long a BA to nectar transfer takes in. the real world – thanks.

    • Andrew says:

14 days. It’s a lag period rather than a delay – to stop fraud. Someone reported a few days less than 14, but the last 3 months I’ve always got them on the 14th day.
