We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

For anyone going to the ME, if you want a cut down version of the Entertainer then the MasterCard Priceless Specials ME app has some decent deals. You can register an account using the BIN 546924

    • Blenz101 says:

The cut down offers are widely available elsewhere. Try something like LetsDXB for an alternative.

Entertainer now offer tourist packages for the full range of offers.

    • N says:

      Thanks, better than nout!

  • Anna says:

I want to book a trip to the US with a 241 for Xmas 2022 so will probably need to jump on outbound seats online at T-355 which will leave me with the problem of adding the inbound and not getting sting for taxes without calling (😫) BA. But I may have found a workaround …
Book outbound (hopefully MIA) at T-355. When inbound becomes available, book NYC-LHR-MAN using the RFS facility so “taxes” only £50pp in economy, which is acceptable if I can get the day flight on the return leg. Claim back half avios via Twitter.

    • Diydegsy says:

Hi Anna I am looking to do the same only with different flights but I thought Rob said in an article that you now had to call BA and ask them to join the bookings to get the reduced taxes etc but are you saying using the RFS is different?

      • Anna says:

Yes, if you’re not bothered about linking bookings (which a lot of CSAs won’t do anyway these days), all you’ll pay is the RFS price which for me would be 30k avios plus £50 taxes pp.

    • AndyW says:

I thought the long haul RFS fares couldn’t be combined with a 241

      • Memesweeper says:

In practice long haul RFS can’t be used with the companion voucher at all. If you have a pre sept 2021 companion this doesn’t seem to be in accord with the voucher T&Cs, so if you’re booking a year out you could always try merging, being denied, and kicking up a fuss.

        • Anna says:

I’m not bothered about the bookings being merged, and tbh not even that fussed at reclaiming 30k avios at this point if it turns out not to be possible. It will still be very good value for a Xmas break if I can use the new voucher to get 3 Club seats on the outbound.

      • Jonathan says:

Is RFS now available in J for long haul?

  • Gary says:

Does Amex allow the main cardholder to nominate another person who could also access/manage the account?

  • Isobel Brown says:

Heads up for anyone trying to use the BA US Call centre to secure inbound reward flights as soon as they are released on a 2-4-1 booking.
Absolutely no one (on three separate calls) was either willing or able to do this. Luckily I managed to get hold of UK Exec club this morning to action.
Maybe Rob will have to change the guide on redeeming 2-4-1 vouchers if my experience is anything to go by ☹️

    • FatherOfFour says:

Thanks for this info. I assume you called UK number at 8am? I also assume they wouldn’t be willing to entertain booking Avios flights with an FTV at midnight?

      • Isobel Brown says:

I did call at 8am. Took about 35 minutes to get through. I called the silver exec number.
I found out today that you can only use FTV on cash only flights or BA holidays as I was looking to use one to offset taxes on the reward flights.

        • FatherOfFour says:

If the FTV was generated from a companion flight originally, you can only use it for a companion voucher when rebooking. Similarly, if it was from postponing a cash flight, you’ll only be able to use for cash. I thought that in most scenarios a cash booking would be given in the form of an eVoucher though, which CAN be used online, but not for taxes and fees.

I’ll be contending with the blue line in a few weeks, with that anxious wait, hopefully not seeing my flights disappear whilst on hold!

          • Isobel Brown says:

Ah good to know. Ours was the deposit for a holiday so that makes sense
I wish you all the best. I was trying for Barbados which is usually very popular but there was a surprising amount of availability in Club

        • Anna says:

Isobel – you’ve been spun a yarn by BA. If you email your FTV back to BA holidays with the new booking ref they will refund the money to the card you originally paid on. Discussed a few times here in the past couple of months. They don’t check what kind of new booking you’ve made.

Is GLA BA lounge back to precovid service?

    • Pete M says:

Last time I was there, in August, they had to serve drinks and food to you at the bar, but worked pretty well. Not sure if the rules have changed since?

      • Pete M says:

Update from a colleague there just now – still the same.

        • Alan S says:

It was also limited selection when I was there last and on board – i.e. Heineken or Heineken. No sign of the brewdog beers etc.

  • Pete M says:

Can’t decide which is going to be my new favourite Day 2 testing provider… “+ + 00 1 Alpha Express Testing”? Or “! ! + + 0 0 44 Tests?” Or perhaps “0+Blindspot Global”? All at £1! Looking at that list, you must be having palpitations JDB? 🙂

    • JDB says:

@Pete M – with your business plan outline from yesterday, I assumed you were starting a testing company and planning your retirement in California.

    • a270 says:

Only the first one is showing £1 but it’s in Stockport! Maybe I am not looking in the correct place. So you just book it but don’t turn up?

    • Saiz says:

Won’t there be an issue with Alpha if the kit is not collected? Their location is quite far! Anyone not collected and been okay? Any other cheaper ones around West London?

  • Benilyn says:

Just double checking, anyone seeing any special offers to sign up to IHG Ambassador? I’m not seeing any
