Are you waiting for your double tier points from BA Holidays? – and a reminder of how it works

One of the most attractive promotions currently running is the ‘double tier points’ offer from BA Holidays.

If you book a ‘flight and hotel’ or ‘flight and car’ package for 5+ nights via BA Holidays, for travel completed by 31st March 2022, you will receive double tier points on your flights.

This could be hugely attractive. For example, until a date to be announced in June 2022, you only need 450 Executive Club tier points for Silver status, which gets you lounge access.

BA Holidays double tier points

You could get this in one trip. For example, booking Manchester to Corfu in Club Europe, you would get (40 + 80 + 80 + 40) x 2 = 480 tier points. You get a holiday and up to 25 months of BA lounge access and free seat selection, depending on how you time it.

There is one snag.

The double tier points do not post with your base points. The rules say that “The initial transaction will be updated when the Bonus Tier Points are added to the standard Tier Points, within one month of the return flight which is part of a Qualifying Booking.”

In reality, they are not. I spoke to BA Holidays about it this week. They confirmed that:

  • as I suspected, this is a manual process which requires someone to go through qualifying bookings and queue up the bonus tier points – hence the delay
  • more importantly, BA has promised me that no-one will lose out on tier promotion or renewal if their additional tier points don’t arrive before the month is up

You must build in a month of leeway though. This means that if your BA membership year ends on 8th April, you need to return from your BA Holiday by very early March. If the extra tier points don’t arrive by 8th April, BA will make amends and see you right.

However, because the terms make it clear that you need to wait a month, BA Holidays will not compensate you if – for example – you fly back on 1st April and expect your extra tier points to hit by 8th April. It won’t happen.

BA Holidays suggested that if you are missing your extra tier points you can use this form. I’m not sure if this would work in reality, because it is the form used for missing base points and not bonuses, but I am just passing on the message.

(EDIT: Someone in the comments posted this email address – exec-club.socialmedia@ba.com – which is apparently effective if you are chasing your points after 30 days.)

Full details of the ‘double tier points’ offer can be found on BA Holidays here.

British Airways routes which offer the higher 160 tier points return in Club Europe are listed here. These are the routes you need to target, with a starting point in Manchester etc, if you want to get 480 tier points in one trip.

If I have a trip from 03rd to the 08th and car hire for the entire time… that would count right? By my calcs that would be 5 nights.

  • Damian says:

Flyertalk suggesting the following for chasing up points which has apparently been successful:

Have your double Tier Points posted? If not (and 30 days have elapsed since your return date) send your membership number, date of birth, email address and postcode for each passenger in the reservation to exec-club.socialmedia@ba.com and they will award the Tier Points for you.

Mine did not turn up after 6 weeks so I contacted them. They had to pass it on to an internal team but I did them get them about a week later along with an email confirming they had done it. I replied to note they had not applied it to all members on the booking and that was fixed within 24 hours

  • Nick says:

Well done Rob for getting answers on this. At an internal BA forum this week the MD of BAH was twice asked to explain the delay, whether it was a deliberate ploy to try to avoid paying out on the offer, and whether doing something about it would perhaps help to reduce some of the CC queues… and twice she declined to answer the question. Really glad to see they have at least discussed it with you 😊

    • WaynedP says:

      +1 Thanks Rob

I similarly raised my missing double TPs on BA chat this week (also slightly cheeky as only 3 weeks since return flight) and chat agent told me they had forwarded to “the team” to action.

Still no change to my BA account TP balance yet …

I understand BA customer service teams are chasing their tails at the moment, but insider reports of senior management stonewalling does the opposite of building sympathy and patience.

      Disappointing.

  • Dawn says:

On my ‘Manage your booking’ it shows my tier points that I’ll earn for my 7 week trip to Gran Canaria including car as 30 points per person. Travelling economy. Is this 30 points per person the doubled amount, or is that the single amount? When I look on the BA calculator it shows tier point earning as 10, 20 or 40 for economy.

  • Michael Hall says:

Rob is quite right about being able to secure 450+ points in one trip to qualify for silver. However, do remember you also need 4 qualifying flights as well to obtain silver status.

  • CN72 says:

I recommend using the exec club email mentioned further up to get the extra points added. For us extra TPs were added within a few days and upgraded status showing shortly after even with a year end reset happening in between.

  • Lady London says:

Wondering could one mix 1 or 2 nights hotel and three days car hire. Or whether has to be 5 of one or the other.

    • AJA says:

I don’t think so. I think it has to be either a minimum of 5 nights hotel or car hire for the entire trip of 5 nights. I think it is possible to stay at different hotels though as long as it is booked at the same time as the flights.
