We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • David says:

I had a webchat with Avios earlier about the Lloyds Avios Upgrade Voucher, which is due to expire on 31 October. Emily from Avios has told me there is no more extensions. Has anyone heard anything to the contrary? I hope someone did… 😀

    • Rob says:

No more 241 extensions so very little chance here.

You’ve had a month more than a lot of 241 voucher holders got.

    • Mikeact says:

Sadly David, absolutely not. I have to get my last two booked next week…just thinking of which zones to lock into, and need to double check cancellation rules/options. ..their’s, not mine. I’d be mighty upset if they cancel and voucher not carried forward. Likewise, maybe worth booking something early next year with one of them, hoping that if cancelled , maybe extended for another 12 months.

  • gareth says:

sorry this a basic Q – trying to cancel avios booking – understand i will lose the £35 thats fine – just want the avios back but the online cancellation seems to indicate i can only get a voucher? is that right?

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Avis car hire booked through BA. The main part of the rental is paid by BA to Avis. What happens if I extend the booking in the Avis app once I have hired the car? Will payment for the extra days be taken automatically from the card in my Avis profile on return or will I have to go to the desk in the airport to process the extra days payment?

    • Tariq says:

In my experience with a travel agency booking for Avis, not BA holidays though, The value of the travel agency booking was shown as a credit on the final invoice and I paid any remaining fees at drop off (which in my case was upsell upgrade charge).

      • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Will that be done automatically (using the card on my Avis profile) or will it involve a queue at the desk?

        • Paasan69 says:

When picking up the vehicle, AVIS will reserve an amount as deposit for insurance on a credit card of your choice. If, during your rental, you contact AVIS to extend the rental they will deduct the amount for the extension from the card used for deposit.

  • Jason says:

anyone managed to get the Cazoo offer split across multiple cards

    • SteveJ says:

When I checked many months ago Cazoo had in their FAQs that they were unable to spread payment over multiple cards.

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

I remember someone saying ring them up and they’ll happily do it

  • Colin MacKinnon says:

With Heathrow T4 closed, is the Premier Inn at T4 not much use for BA – got an arrival into T5 on Dec 22 and outbound next morning.

Enjoyed the bus ride round to T4 and the Premier Inn the last time, although left from T3.

But with T4 closed, am I better splurging for the Sofitel or playing with the pods for the Thistle, since we just need a bed after an evening in town.

    • Sam G says:

Still good – take the 482 or 490 bus from either Hatton Cross (if coming from London) or T5. There is stop right at the hotel “Starlight Way” from T5 or “Sheffield Way” from Hatton Cross . Don’t get off at T4 (if indeed you can) as the link bridge is closed

  • Heather says:

    Hi
I am sorry if this has been answered many times, but I have an Avios booking which is using a Amex 241 voucher. Id like to cancel but keep the 241 live as its expires next March – so as I understand it I apply online for a Future Travel Voucher and the money, avios and 241 all get wrapped up into a Future Travel Voucher. Also it has to be done online – no point ringing?
    Thanks
    Heather

    • AJA says:

Hi Heather yes just cancel online for a FTV, everything is wrapped up in the voucher which is valid until 30 Sep 2023 (use by, not book by) Passenger names as per existing booking.

  • Simon says:

How long does it take for BA to verify your details when submitting proof of vaccination and negative covid test

I’m flying Sunday however not getting by covid test until sat afternoon will it be to late to submit my details on MMB on BA as it says you can’t check in until verified (or words to that affect)

    • Rob says:

If the route works with VeriFLY and you upload there it literally takes a minute.

You can also show the paperwork at the airport if you don’t want to do online check in.

      • Simon says:

        Hi I’m going to berlin

        • Pete M says:

Really varies on BA’s internal checks system. I’ve had 30mins, 2hrs, 4hrs, 24hrs and not at all. Worst case it gets done at the airport.

    • Roy says:

I thought you didn’t need a test for Germany if you are fully vaccinated? Or have I misunderstood the rules?

      • Pete M says:

You are correct, Roy – some people clearly want to get tested for the fun of it…

  • AS says:

Rob, any idea of there is another Economist/Avios offer on the horizon? My subscription has come to end – just wondering if I should hold off before I renew.

    • Rob says:

No idea – we don’t have any contacts with The Economist.

    • JDB says:

No inside info, but last year they ran the 18k Avios from Nov to January this year and then again in June this year, so probably won’t have to wait too long…
