We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Could someone be able to advice if a placement flight from AMS for BA is workable? As I see from Netherlands govt website transit is OK as long as we stay in Airport. Any advice appreciated

    • ChrisC says:

Can you give a few more details?

Where will you be arriving into AMS from? Is this all on one ticket? Will you have checked luggage.

    • Mikeact says:

The proposed charges makes our flights ex AMS or MAD even more cost effective, or just about anywhere else in Europe come to that

  • Shaw West says:

Plan is to take a one way from LHR to AMS with no checked in luggage. The ticketed leg starts in the evening from AMS. overnight in lhr and the connection in the morning next day. Checking luggage in in LHr next day morning

    • Richie says:

You wouldn’t be in transit at AMS, because your final destination is AMS on that ticket.

      • Shaw West says:

But \I do not intend to stay in AMS. the sole purpose of me in AMS is to catch the next flight. won’t that qualify as transit?

    • TGLoyalty says:

You can enter for any reason from the U.K. as long as your fully vaccinated can’t you? Just need an antigen taken in last 24 hours.

      • Nick says:

Returning to the country you came from is not considered transit in airline world. Your departing airline will (rightly) insist that you have the right to land and enter before letting you board.

There was a whole saga a few years ago with people trying to do B2Bs in Moscow. BA sought specific clarification from the Russian authorities who confirmed only third-country itineraries counted. Similarly in Doha during covid.

Not saying it’s not possible or allowed in AMS, but definitely a case of Buyer Beware.

What’s the name of the travel agent for luxury hotels « sponsored by HfP » again? And email address?

Questions about IHG Status, if I may.
I’m Platinum, going to hit the points needed for Spire in a few days via credit card.
    a) am I right that status will run from trigger-date to 31 Dec 2022?
    b) am I right that I’ll get a 25k bonus for triggering Spire (as a benefit option)?
    c) if I get AMB status sometime in 2022, does that run for 12 months exactly (e.g. 5 Mar – 4 Mar 2023) or is it, say, til month end (5 Mar – 31 Mar 2023)?
    d) if I have AMB on 31 Dec 2022, will my Spire get auto-extended to 31 Dec 2023 as a perk?
    e) if so, will that trigger another 25k points bonus choice benefit?

    TIA
