We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Flying to Miami which is best BA business or American Business, BA is £300 more going out ??

  • Matty says:

I’ve been trying to complete the UK PLF since yesterday evening. I can’t get the .gov website to recognise the QR code on my NHS vaccination form. I’ve tried taking a screenshot, uploading a PDF of a cropped form (can’t upload the whole form as it contains 2 QR codes). I’ve tried taking a picture of the code from one device to another. I fail every time.

    Anyone else having issues?

    • Matty says:

Try changing the browser, Matty. That might work… 🤔

    • Paul says:

Had similar issues last month with my wife’s code. In the end we gave up trying to scan/screenshot/photo etc and just said ‘no we can’t upload proof’ and carried on with the rest of the form, and all seemed to work anyway, got the download of the form, not that anybody wanted to see it….

      • TJ says:

+1 I’ve done the same on 3 separate flights back to the UK recently. The form submits without any issues and no-one at border control wanted to see the PLF or the proof of vaccination.

    • Jody says:

We found it a nightmare on the phone, but much easier on the PC. Had to do ours yesterday, I took a snip of the 2nd barcode (after enlarging it first), then uploaded that and it worked perfectly (first one didn’t as I didn’t enlarge it enough). Husband did exactly the same and also had no issues (and we were on different computers with different browsers).

    • Red Flyer says:

Is it a ‘refreshed’ NHS Covid pass and in date you are trying to upload and nothing obvious as well like it is a domestic and not travel version too?

    • davef says:

same here, I gave up in the end and it let me submit saying the code was unrecognised.

  • Ben says:

    Good thinking!

How much time Virgin Money takes to decide on an appeal regarding an unsuccessful credit card application?

Sent them a letter at their Newcastle address almost 1.5 months ago as suggested by Rob in his article, still haven’t heard back from them!

    • Pete M says:

I suspect they may be a bit overwhelmed at the moment – they have been struggling to even issue the cards they have approved! Hope Rob/HfP made some decent commission from this offer!

    • John says:

Might the letter have been lost or delayed in the post?

  • Simon says:

Morning, looking at booking my first Avios Club world seats using the companion voucher. I understand that I can call the contact centre when the flight are loaded into the system to have the best chance of getting these seats. What number do you call as I note the UK call centre opens from 8am? I’d appreciate any help. Many Thanks!

  • Anna says:

Speaking of Virgin, there’s still no sign of our cc’s applied for and accepted on Oct 2nd – I’m assuming the clock starts ticking on the 3 month spend window at the point of acceptance?!

    • Jpa says:

I got my replacement card for VA (for one I had lost) in about a week a few days ago. So cards are going out.

      • Distichon says:

One more data point: applied on the 2nd. Got the card on the 14th, I think.

    • The Accountant says:

I received mine last week, 5 days after being approved. Could yours be lost in the post? Might be worth contacting them.

    • Anuj says:

I applied on the 2nd and got mine a few days ago.

  • graham says:

Need to change my club world flights doing this via “manage my bookings” is throwing up a £225 additional cost where the flight cost for the new dates is less than what I paid. Am I best to cll BA and change over the phone or cancel and rebook

  • Laura Hampson says:

    Morning.

Newbie question about BA CityFlyer as I’ve not flown with them before.

Flying out on holiday from Heathrow and back into City and I’ve just spotted that food and drink is included.

I’m not expecting anything too amazing but in MMB ‘Request a Special Meal’ is faded out but ‘Pre-purchase food and drink’ is clickable.

Is it possible to request a special meal on CityFlyer? Not sure if the option is blanked out because it’s actually not possible, or whether it might become available after the outbound has been flown.

    Thanks!

    • Memesweeper says:

In economy it’s only a snack. There’s no special provision AFAIK. There’s also no buy on board.

Make sure your meal preferences are set correctly in your profile in your exec club. You can forget special meal selection for each flight if you do this. Last minute bookings/changes will not magically get the right food though.
