We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Thanks all for the advice in this thread. Possibly a very obvious question so sorry! If I am using 2 BAPP vouchers on a booking for 4 people, do all 4 need to be in the same cabin, or can i do two in business and the other two in premium?

    Thanks again!

    • AJA says:

I think it’s the same as a cash booking and has to be the same cabin as primary cardholder whose 2-4-1 is being used. This is the same as an single 2-4-1, same cabin, same route and same flight.

    • Mattb says:

I think you could only do this if the 241s were in different names and you made separate bookings.

  • Nathan says:

Hi would anyone here know why BA is only selling tickets to Bangkok from January to April are they scrapping the route after April?

    Many thanks

  • babyg_wc says:

The new no testing required (for Portugal) felt weird, but we flew through check in (PLF and Vax status pre uploaded to BA MMB). As a bonus I was even allowed an extra guest into the first lounge this morning!

  • Louise says:

Looking for a new non-Amex credit card for husband while he takes his 24 month Amex break – we already have IHG and not really interested in Virgin – any other suggestions? Ideally want one that would enable collection or conversion to hotel or BA flight points. Thanks

    • SteveJ says:

Qualify for HSBC premier current account? If so the World Elite card ticks your boxes.

    • Peter K says:

I know you said you’re not interested in Virgin, but you could take the card to ultimately convert points into IHG or Hilton.

      • Harrier25 says:

I agree, after Amex I can’t see that there is a better option than the two Virgin Atlantic MasterCard’s at the moment.

      • Louise says:

Completely overlooked the fact you can convert to IGH and Hilton – that makes it more appealing! thanks

        • BP says:

The conversion rates aren’t exactly appealing though.

          • Harrier25 says:

Better conversion rate for Hilton than IHG. Which is fine for me as Hilton is my favoured brand.

          • Harrier25 says:

If you predominantly want hotel points then 2.25 Hilton points per £ on the paid card & 1.25 Hilton points per £ on the free card is the best you will get at the moment on a new non Amex credit card.

          • Harrier25 says:

Sorry….it’s 1.125 points per £ on the free card.

    • Louise says:

Thanks Harrier25, that’s all really useful info – we would be more interested in Hilton, so that’s really good to know

      • Harrier25 says:

Louise, the only slight downside is that you can only transfer out to Hilton points once you have built up 10,000 flyer points.

    • Harry T says:

Don’t forget you can use the Virgin points to book KLM and AF flights, including short haul within Europe. You can also use them on delta flights. I personally find good value in redeeming VS points on short hops to and from AMS and CDG from NCL. This works well when positioning for an exEU too.

  • Lee says:

Booking USA car hire – Amex Platinum card.

Am I correct in saying that I can decline all insurance and pay with any card (or does it need to be an Amex).

Crazy UK rates on Hertz, so looking to book direct in the USA.

    • Rob says:

Can pay with any card but easier to verify the damages bill if it is on Amex.

  • Tarmohamed says:

Got my beardy card today, do I need create a flying club account and enter it into the app? Or will they automatically create one for me?

  • Rma says:

Re BA vouchers. When the voucher is used does it have to be for the same passengers as the original booking?
I’m paying for a family of four but travelling on a different ticket on different dates. If the family have to cancel, can I use the voucher, or does it have to be the original group? We all have the same surname. If anyone has experience of this, I would appreciate hearing their thoughts.
