We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Can anyone recommend hotels in Bermuda , thinking of a trip there in August 2022

    • Amy C says:

I stayed at Grotto Bay in 2015. Loved it. Loved Bermuda. So want to go back.

  • Oz says:

Hi. Does anyone know if you apply for a new BA Premium Plus Amex card and then for some reason want to cancel, do Amex still offer a pro rata refund please?

  • Harry T says:

Has anybody resident and vaccinated in the UK managed to find a work around to get a genuine EU digital covid certificate? I don’t want to get my tonsils tickled in the Netherlands just to visit a restaurant because the Netherlands app is too basic to accept the UK’s certificate – insert appropriate red light distract jokes here.

    • Babyg says:

GSTP has posted ways on doing this…

      • s says:

the website does include UK is list of excluded countries for applying through that webpage. Presumably because France already accepts the UK covid pass so it does not require conversion.

    • ChrisC says:

You still need testing to eat inside restaurents

      But the tests are free.

Confirmed half an hour ago by friends who live in Amsterdam.

      • ChrisC says:

Also it’s not that the app is too basic but that the Netherlands has decided to wait for EU approval of the NHS covid certificate and latest I read the UK hasn’t applied for that yet.

    • BJ says:

@Harry, get a tonsillectomy then … problem solved.

The UK is on the verge of joining the EU Digital COVID Pass. Have a read of this Twitter thread…

  • Steve in Croydon says:

Just looked up in the sky and saw a BA A380 (G-XLEG) flying into LHR. Checked on planefinder only to see it showing as BA2158 UVF-LGW (St Lucia to Gatwick). The mapping track showed it as having actually flown from MAD to LHR.
A secret pre-restart flight for the crew methinks.

  • Nathan says:

Hi would anyone please know is it possible to transit through Singapore Changi airport flying on Singapore airlines from the U.K. to Thailand and back without flying on one of the designated VTL flights?

    Many thanks

    • meta says:

You should be able, but it all needs to be on one ticket or separate, but the airline has to let you check through the bags. This last point is going to be tricky as the airline can say one thing, but then on the ground you find that agent doesn’t want to.

      • Nathan says:

Thanks it would be on one ticket from Heathrow to Bangkok next March so things may even be a little more easy by then hopefully.

        • Sam G says:

This is no problem on VTL or non VTL – just check the testing situation at the time (especially the return where you wouldn’t otherwise need a PCR)

    • BuildBackBetter says:

On different tickets, forget about it. You’ll be slapped with a SHN when you land at SIN.
On same ticket, save yourself all the trouble by booking VTL flights where possible.
Transit passengers on VTL flights are exempt from the on-arrival PCR test at Changi Airport.

    Cancelled my gold card.
Month later goods refunded – had a spend £600 get £300 back.
    £600 refunded.
Waited 2 weeks to see if rebate deducted – not happened.
Will it be deducted from closed account?
Don’t want to take refund and then end up with a negative balance on a closed amex

  • Si says:

Has anyone else had an offer from ALL to sign up to a free trial of Readly and get 208 rewards points as a bonus? I was tempted at first and then thought that 208 rewards was an odd number…is this a scam? Or has anyone signed up and had success? Thanks

  • Grant says:

Is there anyway of checking what credit limit will be offered before committing to new credit card? I’m familiar with the eligibility tools but AFAIK none of them provide an indication of credit limits, despite confirming pre-approval for some products.

In this instance I am considering a 0% balance transfer card as an alternative to a personal loan to finance a car purchase.

    Thanks

    • Youllnever says:

No – the full credit check will be what’s used to determine the credit limit they’re willing to extend to you.
