We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Thanks. IHG /Hilton/Marriot/

    Preferable close to new st.

Any particular recommendations, never booked a day room before!

  • Jimmy says:

Also – where do you book them through? The official IHG goes to a third party site.

  • S says:

Anyone ever got a retention bonus on Amex platinum business card?

    • Tony1 says:

Tried twice, told no chance ( well they used a lot more words than that ) but that was the implication. Unicorns tomorrow ….

  • TJ says:

Has anyone been in contact with Emyr this week? I can’t seem to track him down.

    • Tony1 says:

Monday 11pm last e mail to me.

    • ChrisC says:

Yes emailed him today and got responses.

Did you use the web form on here?

    • Biki says:

He’s enjoying himself in Ibiza by the looks of his Instagram stories!

      • TJ says:

Ah, that might explain it as he’s normally very responsive. I’ve contacted him via the form this time around so hopefully this will elicit a response.

        • ChrisC says:

Sometimes the form gets stuck – even says so on Emyr’s page on here

email Rob and he will do the necessary

      • Richie says:

Seems it may be his birthday.

    • Mel T says:

Ah I was wondering too as he’s usually really quick to reply. Thanks for the info guys.

  • Babyg says:

Rolex question, has anybody ever had any luck buying a Rolex sports watch in an airport recently? Obviously these are almost impossible to buy so wondering if the airport rolex stores are easier than the local rolex stores where you need to build a “relationship” with the store (relationship = buy lots of other crap you dont really want)..

    • Andy says:

You just need to get lucky that it’s there when you visit the store. In my experience you might have more luck at an airport in the middle east, since the locals tend to go for golden watches instead. But every airport both in Europe and US I’ve been to in the last three/four years didn’t have 1 sports watch I was looking for (GMT, Submariner, Milgauss, Daytona, etc.) for sale

    • Tw33ty says:

Yeah what going to dealers is very limited in Europe, the only way your likely to get one is visiting a local official dealer and starting the dance.

You’ve no chance of Daytona’s or yearly novelties unless youve bought others as you say in the past from them.

The current Rolex situation is due to the big demand in the grey market unfortunately, but play the game with the official dealers and you’ll be rewarded.

    • Gary says:

Also worth browsing if you come across any ADs on travels. Unexpectedly saw Daytona on display in CapeTown. Got it with VAT refund… a steal.

    • Babyg says:

cheers, ill keep doing rolex shop drive buys in the airport then… heathrow t5 had zero male watches..

  • BuildBackBetter says:

I’ll miss the ‘sleepy joe’ comments…

  • xcalx says:

Are Virgin award flights as easy to cancel as BA

    • xcalx says:

Should have added , would I get the miles back for a cacellation fee

      • Clive says:

As long as you cancel outside the required timeline the answer is yes.

        • xcalx says:

Thanks . Will be first time using Virgin miles and rushing trying to arrange replacement flights for Nov.

  • Mart says:

Any good taster menu recommendations for the £200 plat offer for a couple dining?
