We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just arrived at T1 Manchester in advance of my 3.50pm flight to London. The lounge was busy and was told I could not access until 1.5 hours before my flight. Gold member (not that should matter) and obviously not impressed. I frequently arrived around 3 hours before my flight when the BA lounge was open in T3 and have never been turned away. Is this going to be a common occurrence now that more people are travelling?

    • Anna says:

Was it the Escape Lounge? I imagine they are prioritising pre-booked passengers as they probably get more from those than BA. It’s rather shabby though (the lounge and the treatment!) – it’s not going to encourage people to pay for CW or F on BA starting from MAN.

Hi folks… Amex dining credit…. Can anyone confirm if it triggers on multiple occasions if you don’t spend the full £200 first time? I if I spend £150 on occasion one and £100 occasion 2, would I get £150 back, and then £50 the second time? Thanks in advance

Just visited Conrad St James (4 rooms booked). I have signed up for the double points promo. On reviewing the points that have posted for the 4 rooms, only one shows the double points.

Before I contact Hilton I just wanted to check whether the double points only apply to the first room of multiple rooms booked or should I expect the double points on all rooms?

    TIA

    • TGLoyalty says:

You can only earn points on 2 rooms per member

And usually it’s only the room the member was in that earns any bonuses.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

It’s 2 rooms max in theory. Occasionally hotels are nice -or unaware – or the IT doesn’t notice – and you get credit for the rooms above two. Nice result 🙂 . If you have points posted for 4 rooms (and a bonus on one) I definitely would not contact CS and draw attention to the overpayment…

BA Hol booking on Wednesday to Antigua with flights upgraded with Avios to CW, but eldest daughter has just got a +Ve Covid test so it is doomed, Just reading up the details of the Nationwide FlexPlus travel insurance and it says “You are covered for … the value of used points or miles if you booked your flight or accommodation using Avios or a similar scheme”. It does not say how this “value” is calculated or if it applies to an upgrade. Does anyone have any experience of claiming for Avios upgrades on insurance? Will BA refund upgrade Avios if we cancel the rest of the trip?

    • ChrisC says:

There is a number to contact on your booking to discuss emergency issues so I would call that (you may need to click the ‘print voucher’ to see it)

    • JDB says:

Sorry to hear about your holiday. I haven’t had this experience, but Nationwide are very helpful and since Avios are specifically mentioned they will probably have an ‘exchange rate’ and you can see if that is fair. The cost of buying the Avios could be one measure or the cash equivalent of buying the upgrade. The Avios should form part of the total consideration for your holiday, so ought to be claimable. First, you will need to cancel and see what BA will or will not refund so that you establish the quantum of your claim and any other reasonable non cancellable costs you might have.

8th of Nov announced for US travel for fully vaccinated.

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Actually announced or rumours?

    • Andrew says:

      Washington Post:-

U.S. to lift travel restrictions for fully vaccinated individuals
      By María Paúl 9:47 a.m.

U.S. travel restrictions will be lifted Nov. 8 for fully vaccinated international visitors — including those from more than two dozen nations who have been barred from entering the country since the start of the pandemic.

Under the new policy, foreign travelers will need to show proof of both vaccination and a recent negative coronavirus test before boarding a flight. Those traveling by land will not need to provide a negative test.

The move comes three days after the White House announced late Tuesday it would ease pandemic-related restrictions on overland border crossings from Canada and Mexico.

In September, the Biden administration announced that it would lift the ban on vaccinated European travelers and others.

“This policy is guided by public health, stringent, and consistent,” assistant White House press secretary Kevin Munoz wrote on Twitter.

Does anybody know any good day rooms in Birmingham which I can earn points on? I remember Rob mentioning them awhile back but things are coming back to normal now.
