Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

What are the absolute must-dos in UAE? First time visit in a few weeks and got a rough itinerary/to do list, but wandering if i’ve missed anything. Got a car + lots of time so happy to travel. Rough itinerary is Dubai > Al-Ain > Hatta > RAK > Al-Maha > Abu Dhabi. Hotels all booked, but trying to fill out the days a bit!

For Abu Dhabi – Sheikh Zayed grand mosque, kayaking in the mangroves.

Quite liked the Qasr AlHosn. Shame they built high rises all around it.

The new presidential place is impressive, your is cheap and worth doing late to see the light/projection show on the outside.

The Louvre was interesting I found the building more impressive than the art on my visit. There was no special exhibition.

Drive up Jebel Jais and Jebel Hafeet. Visit Dibba and walk the corniche, and see the difference in wealth as you cross from Fujairah to Sharjah. Visit Khor Fakkan and experience a totally dry seaside town. The new road for Sharjah proper is excellent. Visit Madha as well so you can sample a tiny slice of Oman without a visa.
In short, I like the mountains and the East coast:-)

      • Kevin C says:

We went walking in Jebel Jais. You had to hire a local person to take you. We organised through the WA RAK. It was great.

      Dubai Mall and Medinat Jumeriah.

      • Rob says:

Do something in the desert – couple of nights at Al Maha is best, but you can do day trips out there too.

Dubai Mall dancing fountain show is cool.

Hi HfP fam, we’re planning 6 nights in Dubai in Feb, and would like to split this as 3 nights in a ‘city high rise tower’ hotel and 3 nights at a beach. We’re a party of 5 (me, wifey, 3y old & parents). Any suggestions for a good hotel combination? Will it be too much to add a desert hotel within this? I am Spire Ambassador, Hilton gold and have Amex plat. It’ll be great if a hotel has a 2-bed suite that isn’t too expensive, but can otherwise get separate rooms. Ideally, would like a hotel with a golf course and great food options. Thanks!

    • KP says:

With the whole family in tow I wouldnt want to change hotels too much.

High rise in downtown I would say JW Marquis or any other in the vicinity

Beach hotel, I have good experience of Le Meridien (in Marina) and Park Hyatt ( creek, on the other side)

hi, Can anyone help here , the BA website seems to have gone haywire again, looking at Flights to Canada in December in Eco a few days ago it was around £7-800 return now is showing around £1392 single and that’s more expensive than premium economy. i have seen it do this before to then return to ” normal” a few .

is there a reason for this lunacy or is it just a feature of BA’s website

    • Damian says:

Single flights always cost more transatlantic, it will be cheaper to book a return.

      • Memesweeper says:

        +1

Single is often only available full flex.

        • Iain Kelly says:

sorry i wasnt clear. i was always trying to book a return, my point was the first leg was £1392 before even looking at the second, compared to two days ago when the prices were more reasonable

          • Jonathan says:

Just on 1 set of dates or widespread? Did you click all the way through to payment page? Sometimes the leg prices are all over the place but when you have got full return selected it will return to normal levels. Note that if you haven’t included a Saturday night the pricing will generally jump substantially.

Another question from me. Does anyone remember an bonus offer a few months ago with adding a supplementary card to BAPP card. I swear it was 3000 avios for the card and then 3000 if spent £500 in first 3 months. I just did live chat to ask where the second lot of 3000 avios are and they have advised that the offer was 3000 for the supplementary card only. I have thrown away the letter I got about the offer. Am I going mad? Does anybody else remember this?

  • Dave says:

Spend £40, get £20 credit at Craft Gin Club on our Amex Golds.

  • Will says:

Considering quitting Amex and concentrating on VA+ for a couple of years before returning with a clean slate for the SUBs. Is there anything I need to consider since I have a 241 BA booking next spring? Assuming there would be nothing to worry about if the flight isn’t cancelled and we are able to travel, but would things get complicated not having an Amex if any changes are needed?

    • Ikaz says:

You would need to find a friend with an Amex if you need to pay extra for a rebooked flight.

      • Will says:

Thanks – if that’s the only consideration then it feels like it’s worth making the clean break to start the two year timer going.

  • Amo says:

Trying to get through to BA on the silver line to rebook a cancelled flight. After 3 mins of blurb I get “sorry we can’t take your call right now”. Does anyone have a number that works that can do BA holiday changes?

    • QFFlyer says:

Not sure if they can deal with holidays, but call the contact centre numbers for alternative countries – I couldn’t get through using the Aussie, UK or US numbers a couple of weeks ago, eventually got answered in about 15 mins calling the Hong Kong number (call then select option 2 for English).

    • WaynedP says:

      BA Holidays line = 03444930787

Good HfP experience reported for 02079493086 and 02032500145 but have not tried any of the above personally for many months so can’t personally vouch.

    • Amo says:

I managed to get through after 45mins on the silver line in the end. I tried the first number shared above but it cut me off immediately after selecting options. Weird!

Thanks for the replies and help though, I appreciate it

  • Andy D says:

Morning all – there’s no points benefit to spending money at IHG properties using the white/free IHG card is there? I think it’s still lucrative to use my usual Amex but I wanted to check that I hadn’t missed something.
