The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 13th October

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Has anyone upgraded to the Platinum recently? I have tried a few times over the past couple months, and have been told this time it is no longer possible to upgrade and that a fresh application is required.

  • SteveJ says:

The £4 extra is only for the person doing the referring. The one being referred only gets £1.

  • Mark says:

Not that their are a plethora of kosher fine dining restaurants in the UK but are any included in the £200 credit. If not it’s useless to me😠

    • Craig says:

Any vegan restaurants? I know it’s not exactly the same but it might be doable with an email in advance?

    • LS says:

you could choose vegetarian option, no? Hardly useless.

      • ChrisC says:

Vegetarian / vegan isn’t automatically Kosher as it needs to be prepared in a certain way i.e. not contanimated with non kosher foods or prepared usign equipment also used to prepare non kosher foods

        • Mark says:

Correct. So vegan/vegetarian won’t work for me. Shame.

          • Craig says:

I knew it wasn’t exact, was just wondering if an entirely vegan restaurant might work? If there aren’t any then complain?

    • Alex says:

      Shocking from AMEX!

    • Simon says:

Have you tried Tony Page at the Royal Lancaster ?? Not on the list, but you could kick off with £200 worth of drinks at one of the restaurants nearby…… Go with some friends. you get the drinks, they get dinner……

    • Js says:

Roughly travel related – does anyone know of any brands that do luxury/high end British made luggage trunks? A bit like those classic LV ones, but after something Made in Britain!

  • Red Flyer says:

Any way of getting into Eurostar lounge at St Pancras if on a standard ticket and don’t have Platinum Amex?

    • Rob says:

      No

    • Roy says:

Only way would be to get a Carte Blanche holder to guest you in, I think.

    • Michael C says:

Don’t think so, but I’ll be making a valiant effort at getting the flight of 3 champagnes when the bar opens at 1000h…for my 1020h train in a couple of weeks!

  • HBommie says:

The links will help you get the best from your stay, whether that’s from a luxury booking agent (Emyr) which will give a personal touch or the Amex Fine Hotels and Resorts who are also very good, the benefits can be significant from either.
