We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    @Youllnever

Thanks for sharing the Supp Bonus offer link yesterday. It seems that the spend bonus might take 120 days so a bit of time to go yet

    • Youllnever says:

I actually decided to call up CS yesterday and query where my spend bonus was. CS confirmed that I have done the required spend and have created a case for it to be looked into by the back-office. Should apparently know the result in 7 to 10 working days, but we’ll see.

  • Mick S says:

I’ve got a US flight booked for December using a companion ticket. Going from earlier articles posted today it’s highly likely that things wont be open until January. if this is the case will BA refund the taxes, avios, and voucher – or is it up to me to transfer this into a FTV beforehand?

    • ChrisC says:

If you want a refund then BA will do that for you but it will cost £35 (I think per person) to have everything returned to you

If you want an FTV then there is no charge but obviously BA will be holding onto your cash.

If BA cancel the flight then you can have a full refund anyway.

      • Pete M says:

I’m not sure any of the articles today really confirm that assumption? I’d expect to be going to the US in December frankly…

    • Grimz says:

I wouldn’t be jumping to cancel just yet unless you have too. I am booked for the 18th November and I am not cancelling until we hear officially.

  • Alan Greenslade says:

What is going on with the BA call centre today?….
BA have cancelled my avios flight to and from Prague in December and then rebooted me onto a different flight from Prague but not an outbound flight!
On Manage my booking it states I have to contact them. The Executive Club phone number isn’t taking calls and the main number can’t deal with Avios booking!
I have now been on hold for more than three hours!!
Anyone have any ideas what is happening? Have they a system problem ?

    • SJ says:

Great to see that the call centres are still no better. Had a similar issue a few months back. After days of trying to get through the only way I was able to get connected was calling at exactly 9am

    • Grimz says:

I just got through in 2mins to BA exec club at 11am………

      • Alan Greenslade says:

Wow. Must either be calling the wrong number or they know I about to raise a complaint. I called the Gold line ( I used to be a Good) and they took 10 minutes to answer then said I should call the exec club normal number. What number did you call?

    • Karl says:

I haven’t even had the pleasure of being on hold. Tried lots of menu permutations and end up saying they can’t take the call and cut me off.

  • Jamil says:

I want to book a RFS on BA using a companion voucher potentially (I know but it’s half term…) but availability is not great. Would it still cost £35 per person to change the Return Leg on an RFS booking?

    • AJA says:

Ordinarily yes but if BWC still applies (I think it does) then change fees are currently waived.

  • Peter Taysum says:

Just seen Bose doing 15% off on £100; max £30 on BAPP; if any one fancies lovely “noise cancelling” headphones. Other than duty free hard to find discounted prices. I love mine; bought after taking BA3 the “baby bus” LCY to JFK Happy Memories!

    • Andrew says:

PAW is your friend here, click through to the BOSE F&F portal for a 15% discount if your employer is on the approved list.

      • Andy says:

Worth shopping around for Bose I’d say, I bought mine direct online a couple of years ago but have seen plenty of offers from other retailers since, so direct might not be the best price out there

  • FCP says:

Amex Platinum. I have Gold and thinking of getting the other half the Platinum for the referral / sign up bonus. Its probably on a thread somewhere, but anybody received the 200 pounds fine dining credit on new accounts?

    • RJA says:

Yes about 10 days after signing uo, others say if you get on chat they will apply it straight away

      • FCP says:

thanks. i will probably apply end of this month, as out of UK at the moment so no rush to get the card, other than prior to the cut off for bonus points.

    • Biki says:

I applied in early Sept and it was added to my offers without needing to call and get it added about a week later

  • Chris L says:

Personal data point on time to receive new Virgin Atlantic credit card.

Applied Tuesday evening last week and cards arrived in the post today. I think that’s rather quick compared to some of the comments I’ve seen over the past couple of days, although a speed I would have expected them to be able to achieve.

    • Grimz says:

Yes that’s exceptional, 2 weeks and still waiting……….got a letter with my supp card pin but that’s it!!

    • Mattb says:

Good for you I’m 3 weeks and counting!!

    • Lee says:

The card magically turned up after I complained here earlier this morning, it took 2 and half weeks.

    • AL says:

I have a suspicion that Idemia might be being slow to process new plastic.

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Does Ryanair usually wait until 14 days before a flight to cancel it if COVID is making the route unprofitable?

Route: BLQ-TLV a friend here booked it for December as it was ridiculously cheap, asked if I wanted to come along* so I decided I better check the rules as I have a Lebanese stamp in my passport. But I see currently Israel is off limits to non-citizens at the moment, so that might still be in place by December.

Currently FR are selling flights BLQ-TLV from November, with the flights being so cheap now I can’t see them being busy or making money so will FR cancel these soon or are they likely to run them even if almost empty?

    * I’ve not booked for me, I might consider it if Israel opens up (apparently the Lebanese passport stamp is no longer an issue – but I’ll seek opinion on that later), but he booked his flight without checking it was possible to actually get in the country
