The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 13th October

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Getting charged for receiving an SMS?

    • The cyclist says:

It’s all those sites he keeps visiting, I’ll bet Astons phone bill is horrendous.

  • Munch says:

If I apply for a platinum card I understand there is still a chance of receiving the dining offer. Do you still receive the enhanced bonus of 24k for referring friends and family?

  • Jonny says:

How long are Amex taking to credit the fine dining £200 offer?

    • Phil W says:

      3-4 days for me.

    • Andrew says:

Mine has been 6 days so far and still waiting – I think it’s a bit more hit and miss with timescales compared to other offers, perhaps due to the number of locations it can be used at.

      • Gareth says:

I had a similar issue, called up and they said they would send a message to a particular back office

  • YC says:

BA check in baggage question – Initially purchased return with no check baggage. Subsequently changed my outbound and had to change it to one with checked bags. I now notice that both my legs are showing checked baggage allowance. Is this normal that you can’t have different baggage allowance on one ticket? And am I safe to check bags on both sides, obviously don’t want to end up having to pay at the airport on the return

    • KP says:

On the BA website it looks like you cant combine a HBO journey with a return which includes baggage or vice verca. It certainly wasnt the case a while back as I have previously combined HBO and prem econ on one ticket

If on manage my booking it shows luggage allowance on both legs of your journey..then trust that. Take a screenshot in case you are challenged

  • The Original Nick. says:

Verifly app Q- has anyone tried using it for Spain ? The only airlines that are included are EI and AA.

    • Chrisasaurus says:

Yes I used it for return from spain but didn’t appear to achieve a lot, was still asked for printed proof of test result at checkin and still had to check in at the airport itself

      • The Original Nick. says:

        Thanks Chrisasaurus

      • Andrew says:

Yeah it’s a waste of time

        • Chrisasaurus says:

Well, not entirely – peace of mind (assuming you trust the app) that your paperwork is in order has some value, it just doesn’t do anything to save time at the airport (should add neither did it flying *to* Spain, not to or from Croatia)

    • Jalpo says:

I found it useful returning from Barcelona. Check-in desks hadn’t opened when we arrived at the airport but we were able to go through security, having already checked in thanks to VeriFLY.

  • CH says:

But it’s presumably still standard CE service. For that length flight no question I’ll take TK service on a 777 (and the İSTANBUL lounge!).

  • Jonathan says:

Has anyone applied for a Virgin Atlantic credit card whilst still holding the other card that’s on the market, if so has anyone been successful using the same email address ?

It was mentioned many months ago that this is one way of applying for the other card whilst holding the different one, I’m very tempted to try.……

  • Imran says:

I might be thick in my head after the theft recently, but am I correct in thinking that Virgin credits tier points for award tickets?

I remember vaguely that they made such changes in 2019, but haven’t got a chance to travel on an award ticket on VS ever since so any help in this regard is welcome.

P.S.: Thanks for the helpful response on my previous post @JDB. I will be calling Curve Metal insurance as soon as I come back.

P.S.S: I wish not visiting India was an option for me @Zoe, but I do need to visit India every now and then to see my ageing parents and rest of the family.
