We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

We’re sorry, your account is disabled. Please contact Customer Care for assistance. And have Creation letter….

    • John says:

My IHG account and app work fine – didn’t get a Creation letter regarding the IHG Credit Card.

This might get bigger than just a CC closure…

    • Youllnever says:

You already said this on page 7?

      • Andrew says:

See page 7. Known IHG IT issue apparently – accounts all still fine.

    • davef says:

Works fine for me just now, I’ve been in and out of it all day sorting my booking in Montengro and adding the offers

(and yes I got the creation cancel letter 🙂

No conspiracy here, move along the bus

    Hi All,
I appear to have swerved the Creation IHG account closure…for now.
Can anyone tell me their experiences of linking Curve with the JLP card or the HSBC Premier World Elite? Is it safe to use these two cards with Curve?

Its been a couple of years since I last used Curve but have a need to now. Ironically the first time I used Curve lately was with my Creation IHG black card a month ago….yet no account closure!? Maybe they noticed it was a school boy error!?
    Thanks for any advice.

    • Gareth says:

So you’ve seen normal curve use destroy peoples relationship with creation now you want to try that versus the HSBC group?Chuck it straight in the bin

      • iamfugly says:

Destroy peoples relationship with creation!? Slightly dramatic but ok, appreciate the feedback anyway. “Enjoy your night mate”!

    • Youllnever says:

I’ve done the opposite and unlinked my cards.

      • Jim says:

My curve has been cancelled, no use at all and don’t want any other impact on other cards I have. So glad I didn’t get involved with Curve funding recently!

    • SteveJ says:

To answer the question, I have in the past used Curve with JLP, no issues.

However I have also cancelled my Curve, just not worth the hassle anymore IMHO.

      • iamfugly says:

        Ok, thanks for confirming.

      • iamfugly says:

Just read a JLP Earning Points Eligible Purchases PDF and it specifically lists Curve transactions as being an eligible purchase for earning points. Although the PDF does appear to be issued Aug last yr.

    • Roberto says:

After what’s happened with IHG you’d have to be a really special person to start abusing it with your other cards.

      • Jim says:

        +1

        • Harrier25 says:

What amazes me is the complete silence from Curve. You’d think they’d want to reassure their customers that Creation is an isolated case and it is still safe to link other cards, but no, complete silence. My view is, oh well, if other card issuers are going to take this stance then I’m in trouble anyway, so may as well continue but I won’t be linking my new Virgin Atlantic card to Curve when it arrives…just in case.

          • iamfugly says:

Exactly, my thought. Also, I have far too many cards anyway. The HSBC I would be wary of losing but it would not be too much of a loss if the JLP was cancelled to due curve use.

      • iamfugly says:

Thanks Roberto, but before we start being derogatory to each other. Lets get things straight. I never mentioned about abusing use. If the card issuer allows the link then how is it abuse, unless I am trying to recycle, which I am not. Anyway, like you say, it takes a special person to make me react so thanks for your considered input.

Anyone stayed at Intercontintal Madrid recently? I’ve got Spire status and could get Ambassador too. Not sure if it’s worth the premium over a decent 4* hotel in the city

    • Jim says:

I’ve stayed at the IC Madrid recently as Spire Ambassador. It’s a nice hotel but a little out of the way, depending on what you’re doing in the city. I wouldn’t rush out to buy ambassador specially. If you opt for the IC, you’ll need to be on the metro a lot.

      • AnotherUser says:

Thanks! Sounds like we’d be better staying more centrally

    • Tracy says:

I stayed a couple of years ago and would definitely stay more central next time…..

    • TGLoyalty says:

Stayed at the ME which we really liked. Nice location and rooftop bar.

    • Phil W says:

Stayed there a few years ago. Lovely IC, lovely lounge. Loved the whole hotel. Still stayed more centrally on our next stay in Madrid.

Would definitely return, but not sure under what circumstances.
