We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

    Hello!

    • @mkcol says:

      Morning!

    • Simon Schus says:

Is it me you’re looking for?

    • Harry T says:

      Kalimera!

      • JDB says:

That should be καλυμέρα. Have a great time in Crete; very envious!

        • Harry T says:

Sorry, it’s all Greek to me 😉. Thanks, JDB – unfortunately we have to leave today but we’ve had a lovely week.

          • JDB says:

Last Greek test – I was sent to a Greek island at the the ripe age of 19 to sort out an incident involving one of our clients. Was told to meet at the Panteboy, ask anyone they will know where it is etc. Found it in the end – all in Greek letters – ΡΑΝΤΕΒΟΥ
What does it mean/say? Sorry, it’s not even smutty.

          • The Streets says:

I’m fluent in Greek and if you read the word PANTEBOY in a pure Greek work then you would be saying rendezvous. Basically P is pronounced R and B is V

          • The Streets says:

            *word

  • r* says:

    Hola!

  • Ravi says:

Do not forget to claim the complimentary Dubai Expo tickets if booked with Etihad & Emirates.

  • Andrew says:

Albeit the tickets are only £20 anyway.

    • John says:

People spend far more time to get free stuff worth far less than £20

      • Harry T says:

£20 is like one beer in London or Dubai, right?

      • Andrew says:

Very true. People were getting very excited about a 500 nectar point bonus for buying a train ticket and they managed to find a £1.10 ticket to buy – so a £1.10 outlay for a £2.50 return – spend that £1.40 wisely!

        • JDB says:

And also talking about the relative merits of £60k + EVs; bizarre.

          • KBuffett says:

With EV’s, 100% tax write off (perhaps 130% with the super deduction), practically zero BIK, and various other bits and bobs, I’d say it’s a no brainer for business owners.

        • Mike says:

Oooh I got one sub £1 using my railcard

        • Dubious says:

However “People” does not = the same people. What excites some might not excite others and vice versa.

          • Dubious says:

Plus ‘500’ has a nice round feeling about it, regardless of what value it represents 🙂

    • Ashish says:

can you make that a business? Buying and selling this?
With EV’s, 100% tax write off (perhaps 130% with the super deduction),
Use one year for your business then selling?

  • Danny says:

Airtime Rewards £2 bonus on £10 spend this weekend with code OCT2.

  • Wally1976 says:

Apologies if this has already been discussed to death on here (I haven’t been on much recently) but are Ernie payments with Curve backed by legacy Hilton cards now blocked? I knew about the Solihull situation but tried with Hilton a couple of times recently and it’s failed. Very sad if true ☹️.

    • Reney says:

      Do you have metal?

      • Wally1976 says:

No. Wasn’t required until last few days (as it appears anyway).

    • Charlie says:

I just topped up today using the same cards as you, all worked fine. You need to enable Fronted in the Curve app, and also Curve you’ll be charged 1.5% unless you’re Metal.

      • Anna says:

Confused – so ernie has broken things off with Creation but not Hilton? Surely they amount to the same thing?

        • TGLoyalty says:

Creation have taken their own actions.

        • Ashish says:

Yes, it work’s. I want to do sam3 with other cards. How does post office manufacture spending working?

      • Harrier25 says:

Great, so no one has learnt anything over the past few weeks. You all still have loose mouths, so we can all expect letters from Barclaycard imminently! 🙄

  • Matt says:

No letter from creation for me or my partner. Both our cards previously linked to curve but haven’t used curve in 1 year+. Never used for MS. Our address is correct with Creation, and other post arriving so hopefully we can keep our cards.

    • Gary says:

Snap. Only used my IHG Card with Curve for the odd cash withdrawal and Apple Pay, nothing linked with Revolut (Che) or Ernie (NS&I) (Apologies to anyone who thought code words would somehow circumvent Creation eventually implementing their T&C’s) and I’ve had no letter either.

      • Harry T says:

I think the issue was that people discussed MS in a public forum, without using code words consistently…

        • Doug M says:

So they had millions of pieces of data yet tracked down random internet comments to make their decisions?
To those that haven’t had letters from creation, good luck, but remember this is creation CS, it’s crap at best.

          • Yorkieflyer says:

I’ve had the letter Mrs Yorkieflyer not, I’m pretty sure we’ll all be closed down regardless, 60 days notice notwithstanding!

          • Phil W says:

It’s never been that good Doug 🤣

          • Ashish says:

No. Because manaffactured spending went from few people to 1000s

        • Patrick Cold says:

          Ha ha ha ha ha.

  • Yorkie Aid says:

Virgin Shops Away. I’m fairly new to Virgin so wondered whether this happens often and if there’s any remedy. I placed two orders (in April and May) with Holland & Barrett via the shops away portal which tracked fine and the points were added in May and June. I just noticed that on 6th October those points got reversed. I didn’t return any items from either order. I did pay using Curve though or is this just a coincidence?

    • Rob says:

Curve is a coincidence. You will have used a discount code, bought products on the exclusion list or had some sort of cookie clash.

      • Yorkie Aid says:

Cheers Rob. I would have definitely used a discount code emailed to me by H&B so that must be it. I feel cheated out of 4 Greggs sausage rolls 🙂

        • CarpalTravel says:

They are *really* hot on using discount codes, same with BA shopping portal too.

I have had points declined as when checking out I attempted to use (an invalid) codes, just on the off chance it worked. So no discount and no points. I get it if I used a valid code, but felt extremely hard done by for being penalised just for having tried to use one.

    • Doug M says:

Sometimes they add back a lower amount, but that’s usually same day for me. It’s quite a poor system, and certain retailers definitely cheat, although I have no experience of H&B in that regard.

    • the_real_a says:

Curve very rarely if ever tracks for airtime rewards. I now avoid using it when i want to ensure the reward tracks.
