The HfP chat thread – Saturday 9th October

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Is Club Europe back to normal yet? Or am I better to just go economy and use Amex Plat lounge benefit and bank the difference?

    • David says:

      No

Thanks for the detailed reply, although you didn’t specify to which question you were responding…

I flew Club Europe LHR-AGP-LHR in Sept. IMHO back to normal – normal drinks and food service onboard. Not sure if all routes are like this. For me it was worth paying the extra not to be sardined in with many others at the back (especially as so many masks get removed while eating and drinking obvs)

      • Elguiri says:

The not being sardined at the back was the benefit I was weighing up against price difference, especially as over 4 hours long. If food etc is back to normal then it adds that little bit on top.

Food: close to normal but not quite, I’m not sure if this is the new normal or will more substantial meals return in the future. For example no full English breakfast on domestics or band 1.
Drinks: pretty much normal except some occasional supply shortages
Lounges: check oneworld site to see if your outstation lounge is accepting BA passengers. The number that are is increasing all the time but still not all the lounges are accepting BA passengers yet

      • Elguiri says:

Thanks. Sounds like I should fill myself up with sausages, bacon and beans at Heathrow lounge before boarding.
Then again, for a 4 hour flight, maybe not the best idea…

Marriott BRG question: Can anyone recall whether the 25% discount applies to the value of the total booking if lower rate found elsewhere – or only just for the night (or nights) that the rate is lower?

Because there can be a situation where a comparison of a five-night stay between marriott and an OTA would show a lower rate for the nightly total, but really it would only be one of the five nights that actually has a lower rate. Would the BRG team then apply the discount on that single night, or the booking in total?
