We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Haha! So much for my theory that BA were shifting LGW to LHR from 1 May onwards only, my LGW – MLA 4th/8th April flights have been moved just now. Better timings actually so quite happy. To be fair I did say my original theory wasn’t based on knowledge or fact 🤣

    • JohnT says:

Check the other article – could be moving back?

      • Gruntfuttock says:

Yeah, saw that this morning. BA will get a frowning of a lifetime fromme if they do 🤣

  • Toomanylogins says:

Sorry if this has already been covered elsewhere, but I thought this may be interesting:

I made the foolish mistake of contacting Curve after the recent email re NS&I transactions. I have made around one per month, but not for MS purposes and messaged them to say that all my transactions were genuine.
They replied with a request for me to complete a full KYC check and that, if I do not, my account will be closed in 10 days time.
I replied again to say that seemed a bit dramatic as they wouldn’t have made that threat if I had ignored the original email.

Today I got the following reply:
“Our initial email was sent to customers advising them about ensuring transactions must be compliant with Terms, regardless of you contacting us we would have requested this information.”

I don’t really want to share reams of my detailed financial history with them so it looks like my account may soon be cancelled.
Fingers crossed they won’t be sending out demands to everyone that got the original email!

Someone mentioned a few days ago that Curve requested a full KYC check after they complained about the email. Moral of the story seems to be to keep quiet about the email unless you’re happy with them requesting this.

    • dave says:

TBH if I can’t use Curve with an IHG Credit card it’s pretty much useless apart from a bit of holiday withdrawls which other cards offer anyway

    • Harry T says:

Why on Earth would anyone reply to that email? It’s like volunteering as Tribute.

      • Toomanylogins says:

Haha! It seemed a good idea late at night after a few refreshments…

    • Roy says:

So far, it seems to be people who contacted them who got this KYC check email. But I do wonder whether all Curve users will get it sooner or later, and people requesting to clear their name just get put to the front of the queue….

      Time will tell, I guess.

    • SteveJ says:

It made me feel better to give Bendy the middle finger and closed my account, citing their email. They won’t care I’m sure, and frankly I was getting in before they started a KYC!

See no value in them now IHG has gone. If needs be will open one for Player 2, but in no rush

    • Anna says:

Seems a bit unfair – they’re effectively saying that if you respond to the initial email you’re setting a countdown clock.
I’m not sharing any financial info with them, I can’t see how they can survive much longer tbh. Stopped using them 90% of the time when they brought in fronted, this will be 99.9% now Creation is going.

      • Youllnever says:

Regardless of the original intention, it’s logical to assume that your account will fall under scrutiny whenever you contact customer support.

        • Anna says:

That’s why I never, ever contact them!

        • Harry T says:

I contacted them a month or so ago to increase my daily limits, which they promptly did. But I had recently been using curve a lot, as I had been abroad for three weeks. I actually find their app very useful when abroad as it gives an instant spot exchange rate.

I usually see my Curve Metal fee as a tribute to make them leave me til last 😂

  • JohnT says:

Thanks for HfP chat! – with WhatsApp and Facebook down need something to scroll through and look busy!

    • Tarmohamed says:

same… can’t get any actual work done as cannot get hold of most of our staff…

    • Andrew says:

Yes! You lot are the only people I have to talk to now!

  • Aston100 says:

Nationwide Pathology site seems to be down.
Any other recommendations for a day 2 test provider please?
Around the same £40 price or so.

  • Kevin D says:

So I switched to HSBC to get a Premier Account and hence a World Elite Mastercard, as I’m fed up going places not accepting Amex. My god, registering for their internet banking is tough! It feels like you could launch a nuclear missile with less security clearance! Username, password, ID code, best friends name, fathers middle name, another password, memorable word, memorable place, “digital secure key”.

    Anyone got 2 paracetamol??

    • Youllnever says:

Bizarre – I only need to enter my username, memorable password, and security code to login.

    • Gruntfuttock says:

First Direct were the same, took a bit of getting used to but all OK now, from one of the Tesco 214,000 evictees 🙄

    • Harry T says:

Haha it really is that bad! This is where fintech banks shine.

    • Billyk says:

You want to try it in Greece tax number, both parents names, passport ,Greek mobile number, and on top of it all no further on.and all I want is online banking.

    • Polly says:

Worth it tho, being able to attach bendy

  • John says:

Do I receive any benefits as Hilton diamond if I book a suite cheap through a travel website

    • Tarmohamed says:

No, booking through a 3rd party, they treat you as a normal guest usually.

    • Rob says:

No, unless the hotel is in a good mood.

    • The Savage Squirrel says:

Occasionally you’ll get lucky (by all means put your HH number in the notes or flash the card at checkin), but absolutely shouldn’t expect anything.

  • Blair says:

Apparently BBC Panorama are moving next from Pandora Papers to the Creation Chronicles. They’ve had a tip off from Mossad, who are now also involved following a tip off from the CIA.

  • Stephen says:

Any recommendations on business flights from UK/EU to Sri Lanka using miles? Happy for there to be connections. Thanks
