Both British Airways CityFlyer and Aer Lingus have stepped up at Belfast City Airport after the collapse of Aer Lingus Regional franchise holder Stobart Air in June.

As we covered in early September, CityFlyer has already announced increased frequencies to

  • Exeter (four flights per week)
  • Glasgow (13 flights per week)
  • Leeds Bradford (10 flights per week)
  • Birmingham (16 flights per week, a new route)
Aer Lingus announces a big expansion at Belfast City

Aer Lingus has now announced increased services on the routes it picked up from Stobart. From 31st October:

  • Manchester will go from daily to twice daily
  • Heathrow will go from 19 to 21 flights per week, returning it to pre-covid levels of service
  • Edinburgh will go from daily flights to 11 per week

Flights will earn Avios, but not British Airways Executive Club tier points, when bought for cash and will also be redeemable for Avios.

The increase in Manchester services will support the new long haul routes to Barbados, New York JFK and Orlando which launch across November and December.

You can confirm timings and pricing on aerlingus.com here.

It might be helpful to review the easiest way to use Avios on AerLingus. I’ve been trying to book their recent announcement Gatwick to Knock for next May. Nothing shown on BA and my Avios/AerLingus account is also not shown for booking. I shall have to move a few Avios over to top up, but meanwhile waiting for their response.

  • Damian says:

Have you logged onto Avios.com using your Aer Lingus details? Flights are shown available in May for Knock and can be booked there. Shown as 8000 avios + £61.95 taxes and surcharges. I’m always curious to know whether the charges are lower if booking through BA, but this would obviously have to be via telephone.

  • Mikeact says:

I think it fair to say that anybody not used to the AerLingus site, may well find it very frustrating to find their way around it, not least when you have Avios.com involved as well as their own AerCub, loosely tied together. I just don’t understand why there has to be a , now defunct Avios.com involvement. The sooner IAG bring together one programme, if that is the plan, then so much the better.
If you don’t have an AerLingus account, then try and sign up and see how you get on.

    I miss Flybe from BHD.

    • Fiona McLaren says:

But BA are great and wonderful to have them back on domestic flights. Using jets rather than prop planes should make for more comfortable and reliable services this winter.

  • chris says:

Annoying I don’t have the World Hotels offer on my Gold or BA Amex. Contacted Amex and they wont add it on manually. I have multiple other hotel offers of no interest but can’t get this one

  • James Harper says:

Is there any idea when the AMEX Centurion lounge might open in T3? It’s been a long time in the making and I have a couple of T3 flights coming up next month, I’d be keen to try it.
