The HfP chat thread – Friday 1st October

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Mark Peterborough says:

I’ve being in a relationship with my partner from Solihull for a few years and a couple of years ago we introduced a new curvy partner into the mix , this three-way relationship went on for a few years and everyone seemed happy . The curvy one and I did a few extra things that the Solihull one wouldn’t do and still it all seemed happy as I though Solihull understood and didn’t mind .

My two partners had a hissy fit last month and in the end I decided that the curvy one had to go , they weren’t offering me what I wanted anymore and also they had a moan about someone else called ‘Ernie’ .

So Solihull and I looked forward to a normal relationship , that is of course until they found out exactly what curvy was letting me do with them behind their back . Solihull is about to dump me and I am now looking for a new partner.

    • Anna says:

Mark – I decided that the three-way curvy thing wasn’t working for me and have been pretty much exclusive with Che for a while now. I’m hoping he feels the same way and sees a future for us!

      • Mark Peterborough says:

I am aware of Che , but as I have been happily carrying on in the way described above , I haven’t checked it’s functionality and options . I will take a closer look thanks .

    • ankomonkey says:

Brilliant! You should submit that to an Agony Aunt column if such things still exist.

    • BJ says:

You should have gotten yourself a more HHonorable partner!

    • AndyGWP says:

      😂

    • BP says:

Sorry to tell you but I’ve been pumping Solihull for year’s now!

  • KBuffett says:

Calling Xero experts – Does anyone know how I can resolve issues I’m having getting AmEx feeds into Xero? I’ve had the message “There is a problem with this bank feed” for months. I’ve tried refreshing the feed and updating the feed login (which ends up processing forever).

Loathe to deactivate and reactivate as I thing is causes problems with duplicate transactions?

    Any help gratefully received.

    • Char Char says:

I think it originally stopped working until they could fix it, I believe they have fixed it now so likely needs reactivating. I just use manual importing at the moment.

  • Scott says:

I received the closure letter for Creation Premium card today. I called them – agent had no idea what happens with annual fee (just paid it in July) and what happens with free nights. They just said ‘all we have been told is that this is a business decision’.
They then gave me an email address to write to for an enquiry on my annual fee / free nights: cce@creation.co.uk. I plan to do this shortly. They said to include your full name and address details.
Sad day for non Amex spending opportunities!

  • Jim says:

I’ve had my IHG black card cancelled and have just been successfully approved for a IHG white card. Credit limit was £10,500 on the black and now £3,000 on the white.

  • SwissJim says:

To be honest I don’t get all the moaning about Creation, at least from those who like me were only using it for MS (sorry everyone else for ruining it for you…). We took them for a ride, and knew all good things must come to an end. That day has sadly arrived that’s all. I’ll just look at my many millions of IHG points, smile, and move on to the next. After maxing out for the next 60 days of course.

Will continue to keep some ‘clean’ cards of course…

    • Jonathan says:

How are you going to max for next 60 days with no bendy?

      • Anna says:

We have a £12k final payment on one of our cars due in a few months. Might be getting paid off early …

        • Andrew H says:

Have you seen what WeBuyAnyCar offer – it’s absurd – my final payment on my Giulia is £14k. WBAC is offering £22500, and it’s been going up month by month

Anyone who just hands their car back is losing a lot right now.

          • Tom says:

            +1 for WBAC.
My 2018 F-Pace has appreciated by +£5K in 3 months. Unbelievable. All due to a global shortage of processor chips for new cars, allegedly.

      • SwissJim says:

That would be telling I’m afraid…

        • Paul says:

Any hints for the next 60 SwissJim? The end is nigh anyway, however I need just a few more IHG for a prized award stay.

          • SwissJim says:

Easiest win. Just think about the other non underlying cards which are talked about on here…

      • BP says:

        Join the revolution!

    • LEE says:

Not sure on your comment as you seem to be behind the curve as creation blocked all transactions for curve . If they had a problem with curve they should have blocked it from the beginning .

  • Matthew says:

Anyone have experience of transferring a credit limit with amex. One of mine is really high and the other so low it’s barely useable. Just wondered if there is a simple process to split the limit across the two cards? Thanks…

    • KBuffett says:

Very simple. They will transfer any which way you prefer between cards.

      • Matthew says:

        Great, thank you

        • BJ says:

Just be aware they will not consider any further adjustments for 90 days so be sure to get it right for you the first time. Also, if you don’t need all the credit just let sone go as you will then be more likely to be approved for further cards, i.e. don’t let amex extend the credit they are willing to give you to the max, maintain some breathing space.

          • Matthew says:

Good advice thanks. Yes just done over chat. Credit limited re-allocated and as you say no further adjustments for 90 days, which is fine.

      • Genghis says:

+1. I’ve done it over chat.

    • Scott says:

You can adjust the limit yourself in your online account (an increase is sent for approval, but decrease is automatic.)

    • Dan says:

I did it on chat and the customer service advisor misunderstood and moved an actual £5k from one card to another (putting the receiving card in credit by more than £3k)! I should have queried why the request would need to go to the back office as the “front” office have done this before with no problem. It took a week to resolve as the back office had to return the £5k before the limit move could be actioned.

  • BJ says:

A golden goose may be dead but a few golden eggs remain! The future is bright, but it is not orange, and aspirational travels will get you nowhere…

  • Simon says:

Applying for the Amex Biz Gold. Does clicking on the application link mean you (HfP) get referral bonuses or must I use a dedicated link?

    • Rob says:

Any link on HfP (in our review, on our cards directory page, in an article) supports us. Thanks.

      • BJ says:

In the same way as a personal referral or are readers still better to request one of those from you viavemsil?

      • Simon says:

Great site. Keep up the good work!
