We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

That sounds fine – as long as your travelling companion doesn’t change you could book LHR-MAN so you’re not tying up as much cash & avios in the FTV.

    • Anna says:

      That was to Peter!

      • Peter Taysum says:

Thanks Anna, I *thought* it was, but the idea of using my NEW 2:4:1 voucher (which I don’t have yet) BEFORE the other two is clearly crazy; but the right thing to do! I was “wood/trees” erm, 🤪😱🤣

        Thanks very much!

We’re planning a belated joint 50th in Boston; VERY exciting! Doe the first time in ages I have flights booked for Christmas and skiing IN HALF TERM holiday! 🥰

Had the Creation letter, which might drive me back to HSBC WE. Does HSBC work for genuine Curve spending – in order to not have to pay for a supp wife’s card?

    • JDB says:

It does work, but people say HK doesn’t much like Curve, plus the latter doesn’t always work reliably. In the current environment it might be safer to pay £60.

    • Reney says:

can’t you add your card to her apple pay or equivalent?

    • Sam G says:

my OH has my actual card in his google pay and on his Curve, seems to work fine. As JDB says HK doesn’t really like Curve but I can’t see it being a problem if you don’t do any funny business just genuine spending

  • Daniel says:

Has anyone had the Creation letter but never used Curve with it ?

    • Mick S says:

pretty much – the curve transactions over £100 or so would never go through. Could only ever get it to work with low value stuff. So i’m assuming they are just closing it altogether, and not just for curve customers. (and its blocked on curve anyway)

  • Voltron says:

So what credit card is everyone moving to now lol. I’ve never done NS&I but have used curve back in the good old monese days.

  • lee says:

received the letter also from Ihg closing my account spent around 150k a year on ihg card for last 3 years . Have called them to open a complaint not that i think will make much difference they cited curve as the reason .

    • Harrier25 says:

Their sole reason for closure is as simple as using it with Curve? If true then that’s disgraceful and seems more of an excuse to cull rather than a valid reason!!

      • davef says:

No it isnt. They’re just closing that card down.

I got my closure letter today and it’s never been connected to Curve

        • lee says:

I was told by Creation its to do with Curve transactions on the phone today .

  • Kai says:

Does the 4 card max per person Amex limit applies to Business cards?

    • G says:

I had 4 personal card and got turned down for a business ba card due to having 4 cards already

  • Toddy says:

Ok, I’ve spoken to Creation who have advised the following:

    1) The free night voucher will be deposited in my account on the card anniversary.
    2) The £99 fee will NOT be prorated! He had to speak to a colleague in the “IHG team” to get this answer and couldn’t tell me a reason, so I have raised a formal complaint, as think this is reasonable.

Worth pointing out that the adviser was very ‘tetchy’ to begin with. “I’ve been advised by the business that we cannot give any reason for the closure”, even though I hadn’t asked that question.

    • TGLoyalty says:

There are people having it shutdown and never used curve.

    • Anna says:

What did they flipping expect telling (seemingly) every card holder they were being shut down on the same day with no explanation?! Of course loads of people were going to call demanding explanations.

Is that you get the free night regardless or only if you’ve spent £10k?

  • Daniel says:

Just been speaking to them. They have advised me that the letters have been sent out to 1,800 customers and is for anyone who has used Curve at any time on their card. It is a business decision and no further information will be provided with regards to it.

    • Brighton Belle says:

Dear Valued Customer. Thank you for giving us £99 fee for your Black IHG Creation card………. oh you used it with Curve and we decided we don’t like that. We’re keeping your £99 though. No refunds. Bye

    • Harrier25 says:

Disgraceful decision and leaves them wide open to criticism, not that it will bother them much when you are so incompetent! 🤬

    • stevenhp1987 says:

If that’s the case that’s an interesting development.

Not everyone uses Curve for MS.

Indeed, Curve was useful for enabling Google Pay support!

This would have the potential to derail Curve? If banks are closing accounts down simply for using Curve then I wouldn’t be adding any new cards to Curve at all!

    • DJ says:

Instead of phoning them, I have messaged them using the in-app messaging system.

I just need them to commit to deposit the anniversary IHG cert, and prorated refund on my card fee.

Did mention that if I don’t hear from them within 8 weeks, then I will lodge a complaint with an external party. Also took screenshot of the message …

      • Roger* says:

I’m waiting for a response to my in-app message of a week ago asking why my £110 transaction at a local restaurant was rejected as soon as the card was inserted – no PIN!

Message was ‘too many attempts’ or similar. It was the first attempt.

        Now I’m beginning to understand…

    • DJ says:

Also of course, unlinking my other cards with Curve now.
