The HfP chat thread – Friday 1st October

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Richie says:

If the destination of the BA Gatwick flight doesn’t move to LHR and is cancelled, is re-routing possible by MMB or is it a call?

    • meta says:

You need to call, but re-routing will be a struggle unless OW airline flies the route.

      • Richie says:

No OW airline flights at all. So is it then one-stop on BA and an airline BA interlines with?

        • meta says:

Nope. BA will very likely refuse re-routing unless they have some sort of agreement. You can suggest, but be prepared to purchase it on your own and then claim it via MCOL (or CEDR).

          • Richie says:

Ok thanks. So re-routing to nearest airport with a BA non-stop service is more likely?

          • meta says:

Yes, they can move you 300 miles, but they are known to waive even that.

  • berneslai says:

I know this routinely gets asked but does anyone have any recommendations/discount codes for a PCR (or any NAAT) test to satisfy Spain’s entry requirements?

Just thought I’d check before using ExpressTest at Gatwick the day before we fly.

    • Therooster says:

You don’t need a test before entering Spain if you are double vaccinated?

    • BLT says:

I’ll be using Randox for £43. As my teen kids will be at school, I’m not sure I can wait until the day before to find out if they test positive!

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Lamp test at collinson ?

  • Aston100 says:

    Only 1800 card closures?
I reckon someone hacked HfP and got all our email addresses.

  • Dave says:

Damn, looks like my India trip is off then unless there’s a compromise reached between the two countries. Can’t blame India though really, ridiculous stance being taken by the UK govt

    • Zoe says:

      what happened?

      • Dave says:

As we won’t let Indians vaccinated by the Indian manufacture of AZ without quarantining, they are introducing reciprocal arrangements so despite opening up to other countries, UK citizens will have to quarantine for ten days on arrival

        • Lady London says:

Perhaps they should manufacture to the standard they’re supposed to then.

          • Robert says:

@LadyLondon, I’m afraid you’re letting your either prejudice or ignorance influence you here. I work in the field and the reason it isn’t acceptable in the EU isn’t because of any sub standard manufacture, more that it hasn’t been approved yet by the EMA. Same here in the UK and same for why the US wouldn’t accept UK AZ vaxxed people at first

          • Lady London says:

ignorance, Robert. Trusting me assumed that if the vaccination was being rejected by multiple countries, then it had failed quality tests.

      • John says:

India is angry that their vaccine proof isn’t recognised by the UK so the UK is moved to their “red list” (though you can quarantine at home if you have one)

        • Anna says:

Surely that’s going to have the most impact on people who have family and connections in India?

    • Therooster says:

What happens if you are not coming from the UK but the Maldives??

      • Andy says:

I imagine some compromise or reciprocal agreement might be reached at some point but there is a lot of anger out there about the UK not recognising vaccines in certain countries

  • J says:

Got the Creation account closure letter. Shortly followed by an email from them:

“Over the last year, we’ve seen a lot of changes in the way our customers get in touch, changing not only when they call, but what they call about. That’s why we have introduced new services to make it quicker and easier for you to manage your account.”

    🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️😂

    • Jill (Kinkell) says:

Haven’t got the letter…yet! But just got an email :
IMPORTANT – Changes to the way you can pay your IHG Rewards Club Premium Credit Card credit card.

      • Sandra says:

Same, no letter but changes to way you can pay email arrived yesterday. Do not use curve or do any MS, just spend 10K throughout the year to get the free night & IHG points & have done since the black card was launched. Mind you we are in the sticks a bit so it could be a letter is still winging its way here….

  • Safety Card says:

Very much off topic – but has anyone here got access to Amex FHR who could check a price for me to see whether it’s the thing that’ll make it worth me switching from Gold to Platinum? It’s the Ritz Carlton Budapest, 4 to 7 Dec

    • Ste C says:

For 2 Adults: £368.36 per night for a deluxe room (park or city view)

    • TGLoyalty says:

Probably not. The FHR rate is the fully flex none member rate.

The pre pay but refundable club rate is better than FHR. And even then 80 EUR a night probably buys you a decent spread elsewhere.

      • Safety Card says:

Thank you. Yep. Seems better to just book direct with the hotel in this instance.

    • Sukes says:

Travelzoo via a tour op called Deluxe Travel are advertising a v gd package rate to RC Budapest from various regional UK airports which may be worth looking at. Eg 3 night Gatwick departure on 4 Dec with Deluxe room on B&B is advertised from £249pp.

    • barnaby100 says:

Emyrs rate and benefits are usually the same/similar to FHR. Try emailing him for a quote

      • TGLoyalty says:

His rates are the same as the fully flex rate. As all rates come with breakfast of some sorted the $100 won’t make a difference. However there may be a 3 for 2 offer on for example.

  • Babyg says:

another day, and another 400 curve related posts… the forums feels like I’m at work these days…

    • Babyg says:

No they consulted with Robert Langdon who figured out the “bendy” was actually “Leonardo da Vinci” and creation was “the Mona Lisa”, and those are the first 8 members of the Fibonacci sequence, written in a jumbled order, this was all creation needed to crack the code…. (not the constant repeat of daily ways to MS)

    • the_real_a says:

Do you work for Curve customer support? 🙂

    • John says:

You work for a spend manufacturer?

    • His Holyness says:

Thinking to send Curve only my NS&I statement and leave it at that. Not going to comply with 15 months of credit cards, bank account statements.

      • the_real_a says:

If you haven’t withdrawn anything then you dont need to provide CC info.

  • Rory says:

Just purchased some Qatar QMiles. Does anyone know how long they take to appear in any account? Cheers
