The HfP chat thread – Friday 1st October

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Very sad day. My IHG card is likely getting closed (no letter yet) AND I’ve had a positive PCR test. Double whammy!!

    • BJ says:

Hope you’re ok and don’t get a rough time. Had my letter, never once linked my creation card too my curve card.

    • bill says:

…..and you’re a petrol station. nothing but problems.

      • Yuff says:

        🤣🤣🤣

The petrol station not your positive test

      • BP says:

Haha! It’s not my fault the petrol is out! It’s a bit like MS where a small minority spoil it for all 🙂

  • YC says:

Anyone going to apply for the free card if your premium one is closing?

  • Youllnever says:

Goodness me… should I be removing all my cards from Curve then? Sounds dangerous to use it with any of the cards now.

    • John says:

Well Hilton said no paying them off with Curve a long time ago. If they were unhappy about spending on them with Curve they should have said so at the same time.

If you haven’t been doing much MS I wouldn’t worry yet. No harm in not using curve where it provides no benefit though

      • Toaster says:

No harm, not using, no benefit? Please can you rephrase it without all the negatives as I do not understand the point you are trying to make?

        • Joints&Piles says:

Where Curve gives no benefit over using a card directly, remove any risk – and lose no benefit – by not using Curve.

Seems to apply to 100% of transactions now.

  • Muhammad Abdullah says:

My LGW-FCO in April are still showing as operating, not moved to LHR yet. Mistake?

    • Sam G says:

There are some other routes still showing as LGW e.g. Alicante. I suspect these just won’t move. In the case of FCO it’ll very likely be cancelled in due course and you’ll be moved to a similarly timed LHR service. You’ll be free to pick another one or get a refund if that doesn’t suit

    • Gruntfuttock says:

My LGW – MLA for early April still showing Gatters. My guess, completely without knowledge or proof, is that they’re moving LGW flights to LHR from May onwards. I await to be proved completely wrong for which I apologise in advance so don’t wheel out the stocks just yet and wait til the fruit is really rotten cos it’s softer on impact.

  • Josu says:

Sorry, can someone confirm when the changes from the curve email are being actioned?

Struggled to understand if the dates specified applied to all changes or if anything that’s already been enacted ? Mainly the fronted limits ?

    • TGLoyalty says:

NS&I becomes fronted from oct 7th

The £10k pcm limit for metal is enforced from Dec 3rd.

    • Mick S says:

the £10k per month kicks-in from 1st December.
      Crypto acceptance from now,

  • TedL says:

Have two Expert Medicals Day 2 tests which are now due to be taken but cannot activate them on the Expert Medicals website, Anyone else had similar difficulties.

Recall comments here over past few weeks where the kits have not arrived and NHS tests have been sent out, what number should be called for this?

    • TedL says:

Wow, didnt expect that, emailed support and they came back with two new activation codes within minutes, all activated, now to do the tests.

      • Jody says:

Exactly the same thing happened to us. They responded very quickly with a new barcode to activate.

However, they haven’t responded at all to my email asking where my result is! Posted Monday, they must have been received Tuesday as husband got his result late Tuesday evening. Nothing for me though.

  • Will says:

If BA advertise same flights lower than you paid for them, can you apply for a FTV and rebook the same flights? Presume no cleaner way of doing this all in one call/ or online?

    • ChrisC says:

Yes voucher for the flight you cancel then a further voucher for the unused balance.

Even if you call to do it the change will be another voucher.

The voucher needs to start 125-4 for it to be an evoucher usable online but as the booking you are vouchering is a cash one that shouldn’t be an issue

      • Will says:

as it’s a booking for two pax, won’t it be a FTV bookable by phone only?

        • Will says:

and it states that the FTV can take a week to arrive, so tricky to book with it as we are travelling in a few days

          • Will says:

thank you. got through quite quickly and the guy was very helpful and well informed. issued 2 transferable evouchers (unexpected to be transferable) for the difference and made the booking change on the phone. very simple. I could then upgrade for £99 one way, even at the lower fare, sadly couldn’t use the evoucher for that.

    • Paul Pogba says:

Yes and if you see if cheaper on a comparison site click through to the booking page, print to PDF and make a claim under the Best Price Guarantee

You should get double the difference back as a BAEC member, if you don’t contact customer service by webform and they’ll reissue.

  • Will says:

don’t want to end up with FTV in a week’s time that I may not be able to use in the future (nearly always book with Avios, this was cash only)
