We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hey. My wife and me both have the barclaycard Hilton version. All the points come in to my account (must have set it up that way at some point) I checked her account and she has 5 k points in her account too – I thought everything came into the ‘family account’ Am I mistaken ?

    • Peter K says:

There is no Hilton “family account” but you can ‘pool points’ by moving from one account to another in multiples of 1000.
Make sure you use the free way to do this, not the paid way though!

      • Harrier25 says:

The only way your wife’s earned points will go into your Hilton Honors account is if she is an additional card holder on your credit card account. If she has her own card linked to her own personal Hilton Honors account, then that’s were her earned points will go.

      • John says:

You could open a Hilton family account until around 2004. If you did, it still works.

    • Anna says:

You should be able to see in her HH account where the 5k points came from.

Around 11pm, how long would it take in a car from T5 to the City? Google maps suggesting the best part of an hour, which seems a bit excessive as I assume the roads will be pretty quiet by then.

    • JDB says:

Yes I think an hour is reasonable. I am usually travelling out from the City to M4 at that time and it’s surprising just how much traffic there is. Unfortunately they also quite often seem to spring surprise Hammersmith/Chiswick flyover or M4 overnight total or partial closures.

    • George K says:

Hour is probably about right. Roads might be quiet(er) but it’s a good 20 miles and it gets slower as you come into Hammersmith.

    • Blair says:

I took 2hrs in a Bolt last Thursday 7am to 9am and eventually abandoned the car in the West End and Tubed it. Soul destroying stuff. Even at midnight to the City I’ve taken over an hour. That’s London innit.

    • tony says:

Ok many thanks all. So even that late at night, the HEX then a black cab is a better option!

      • aDifferentSimon says:

During working hours tube all the way to the city is quicker than HEX + cab!
Hex + tube wins in office hours, Hex + cab may win at that time.

  • idontflymuch says:

Morning, has anyone used a Fit to fly test (antigen) from Chronomics to travel to Italy. Will they accept test at home+send a photo type tests as I heard the US is not accepting them.

    • Doug says:

I’ve just reposted similar question, oops! Interested into this, Chronomics is quite good, but not sure if they will take it

      • Saiz says:

Chronomics have awful customer service. You can’t get through. Had to do a charge back via Amex.

  • r* says:

I have a room booked using an ihg card free night voucher which has now expired, is there any point in contacting the hotel to try to move the booking or would they be unable to move it and the rebooked night still be free, as the voucher attached to it is now expired?

    • Paul says:

Interested to hear the answer to this also.

On a separate note, I see IHG have not yet updated the Creation free nights to ‘book by’ date.

    • Blair says:

Appeal to the hotel first and be upfront re being flexible in terms of future dates if they could wrangle something with IHG

  • Voltron says:

Man the COVID excuses the lounges are still using to keep the lounges shut is getting ridiculous. Was hoping to use the aspire lounge at Bristol airport, but looking at the opening timetable for the weekday, I just don’t understand how they can’t try to even attempt to put on normal hours:

    Monday: 0400 – 0900
    Tuesday: 0400 – 0900
    Wednesday: CLOSED
    Thursday: CLOSED
    Friday: 0400 – 0900
    Saturday: 0400 – 1400
    Sunday: 0400 – 1400

    • Gavin says:

I would assume it’s due to current lack of demand (due to covid related reasons) or maybe staff shortages. Presumably running a lounge is a profitable business, so they would be keen to open normal hours if the demand was there.

    • Jody says:

Similar hours at Luton – we were there last week.

    • Ryan says:

Poor selection on Monday this week, only tomatoes and sausages on offer as hot food… yogurts and croissants made up the rest

No tap water either, would hate paying £32.99 for that

I have exhausted all the personal Amex bonuses and don’t want to take a 2 year break from Amex. I was thinking if venturing into Amex Business cards, but I feel lost in that space.

I am a salaried individual and don’t really have a business to my name. Can someone guide me how to open a sole trader and/or limited company to get the Amex business cards. I would appreciate it if you can also explain any additional requirements that come with it like doing self assessments every year and so on.
    Thanks.

    • Alex B says:

The amount of effort and cost to do this would be insane if you have no actual need to open a company. Just avoid.

    • trader363 says:

Click sole trader. Put 0 employees and 0 income. I got approved . . .

    • Anuj says:

AFAIK (correct me if I’m wrong anyone) You don’t have to open any company or submit self assessments, simply selling on ebay can make you a sole trader. Whether amex would actually accept your application is another thing.

    • Jonathan says:

If this method worked for literally everyone, then you could always have a good Amex in your pocket, but business and cooperate cards come with higher annual fees and no 241 vouchers, etc

      • Harrier25 says:

The lengths people are willing to go to just for a few extra Amex MR points. Madness.

        • Lady London says:

          +1.
Am actually quite surprised that someone wouldn’t find it easy enough to sort this, if they’d gone so far already.

Plus diligent attention here would have revealed some positives on the Amex Business Plat such as better insurance, plus some negatives like laughable non-access to Eurostar lounges which personal Plat do have access to, and generally poorer offers overall recently.

It’s like when we see some of the questions we do on MS, should those people (for their own good) really be taking the risks of MS if they actually have asked that question.

    • Peter K says:

Wow, you really are trying to do that, for what, a few hundred pounds worth of points?
Maybe a personal non-amex backcash card is the way to go?

    • Barraclough says:

Amex Business card rules say you can only put business items through the card otherwise I’d be tempted to apply for one.

      • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

So annoying that they stipulate this restriction and then half the offers are for things like Lulu-bloody-lemon ! Not a sniff of something that might be useful for business, like a £200 dining credit that could be used towards a good bit of client smoozing.

  • Jane says:

Hi All, has anyone got stays at Hilton T5 in the next week or so that are being cancelled / honored ? Apparently they are deciding tomorrow whether to stay a quarantine hotel or revert to normal customers (according to customer service agent). I can book for the end of October currently but will look elsewhere if peoples stays are being cancelled.

    • Peggerz says:

I just decided there was too much faff at Hilton T5, so plumped for Hilton T4 for my October stay.

  • Paul says:

Someone mentioned a good Green Chef ‘stack’ via Amex and Nectar yesterday, however I can’t seem to find the comment. Anyone happy to share if aware?

    • Gtellez says:

I got a box yesterday completely for free with: Amex (£15 off), nectar connect (2k points) and “something else” (£20 off), plus 30% off first time user. It arrived yesterday and everything really good quality. We got the 4 people 3 days box, worth over £60 pounds; everything tracked perfectly.

      • Saiz says:

Do you apply for this or is it an offer on Nectar Amex?

      • Andrew H says:

        Your Nectar tracked?

I have four things at Nectar Connect. None have tracked (VACC+)

Might try what you did using Amex (obviously for the £15 off)

        • Gtellez says:

Yes, it tracked in two days with Amex

          • Andrew H says:

Hmm – concluded VACC+ doesn’t work very well with Nectar Connect

Problem is I’ve found somewhere else with £16 “benefit” and £10 off the price at Green Chef, but for 2 people the cost of 4 boxes is reduced to below the Amex threshold (£39.99), so I won’t get the Amex lump. Maybe that can work week 2!- no reason why not

      • Paul says:

What was the ‘something else’ £20 off? What is the best discount code to use?

        • Paul says:

Have just Synced my Amex to Nectar Connect and can’t see the Green Chef offer! Any ideas?
