The HfP chat thread – Thursday 30th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

We’re introducing a £10,000.00 limit to Curve Fronted for our Metal customers. The first £10,000.00 you spend via Curve Fronted per calendar month will be service fee free, but from 1 December 2021 you will be charged a 1.5% service fee on the total transaction value in excess of the limit.

    CURVE!!!!
“We’re introducing a £10,000.00 limit to Curve Fronted for our Metal customers. The first £10,000.00 you spend via Curve Fronted per calendar month will be service fee free, but from 1 December 2021 you will be charged a 1.5% service fee on the total transaction value in excess of the limit.

As a Metal customer, you’ll still be saving up to £150 per calendar month compared to our Blue and Black subscription tiers on Curve Fronted spending up to £10,000.”

We’ve clarified that payments to NS&I (National Savings & Investments) are Curve Fronted transactions when you use a credit card as your underlying funding card. If you make payments to NS&I by credit card, you need to turn on Curve Fronted in the app. Please note that a 1.5% fee applies to Curve Fronted transactions unless you are a Metal customer (which has a fee free limit of £10,000.00). We will be applying the 1.5% Curve Fronted fee to NS&I transactions from 7 October 2021.

Just seen this – presumably still not allowed with Creation or will they be they splitting the charges?!

      • davefl says:

Tried to add a creation card to my new curve and it’s blocked from being added. So they have permanently fallen out by the look of it

      • Reney says:

More importantly, does this mean we now won’t get shut down?

    • peter says:

      RIP Curve

    • Ghosty says:

They said I’m a metal customer
My memory is fading as I’m getting older, but I’m positive I have never had or even applied for metal.
Looks like an ‘all’ email send again

    Curve:

    Hi Matty,

As Curve continues to evolve, our product and terms of service need to evolve too. That’s why we’re reaching out to let you know about some changes to our terms of service.

    What’s changing?

We’re introducing a £10,000.00 limit to Curve Fronted for our Metal customers. The first £10,000.00 you spend via Curve Fronted per calendar month will be service fee free, but from 1 December 2021 you will be charged a 1.5% service fee on the total transaction value in excess of the limit.

We’ve clarified the wording in our Fair Use Policy about what amounts to cash recycling and provided further examples to help you understand what is not allowed. In particular, we’ve clarified that cash recycling includes the use of a credit card to deposit funds via Curve into an investment account and then to other accounts before being used to pay off the original credit card account only to then be circulated again via Curve. You can review our Fair Use Policy here.

Wonder how many copies of the curve email were gonna see on here 🙂

  • Josh says:

So I assume I can get a pro-rata refund for my metal sub as they have changed the T&C’s?

    • Reney says:

if you are in your second year, I think you can get pro rata refund when you close anyway.

    • QwertyKnowsBest says:

I asked a week ago given they sent an unwarranted email re my genuine NSandi spend, no response.

Thanks for the good times Curve. Nice knowing you.

    • CarpalTravel says:

Sounds like too many people took the piss, so now the consequences…

  • Bob says:

Hold on… are we saying NS&I never counted as Fronted prior to this change (from 7th October)!?
Holy ****…. no wonder it’s been abused.

  • mark2 says:

I was a curve metal holder until today. It was suspended because they were unable to collect the monthly charge because I had cancelled the IHG card because it could not be used through Curve. They asked for a new card but I just downgraded to the free card, which I had been planning as metal seems useless now.
I had not been advised of the suspension and when the card was declined in shops I just though ‘Ok Curve again’.

    • Chrisasaurus says:

The annual fee was billed through Stripe, not Chrve themselves – mine was always paid by Amex…
