We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

As it’s one card each I think you’d be OK.

Downside is that you are risking a LOT of Platinum points if Amex did block you for some reason. Decisions decisions …

  • Ollie says:

I have 2 Companion Vouchers due to expire before I’d like to fly. Would like 4 x CW returns to the Caribbean for Oct 2022 half term, so quite sought after seats.

If I use the ‘Book a flight to Liverpool/cancel for a FTV’ trick, do I still call BA at midnight T-355 to try and bag them, even though I’ll be using FTVs?

    • Anna says:

Good luck finding a BA flight to Liverpool, but yes, you need to call to use a FTV anyway, which is going to make it very, very difficult to use them for sought-after seats at the moment. I’m hoping that “anywhere in the eastern US” will be enough to be able to use one of mine for Xmas 2022!

      • Ollie says:

Liverpool bad example! Thank you, appreciate it. Which number is best to call? Japan?

  • His Holyness says:

Curve app seems to be down for me, I am unable to verify transactions. Ah, lovely Curve… definitely ready to be mainstream!

    • TGLoyalty says:

I get all of the verifications via text now ?

      But yep apps down

    • Harrier25 says:

Its back up for me now, but after reading the comments from you over the past few days, maybe it’s something completely different for you than just app downtime @ His Holyness 😂

      • John says:

Been reading the curve forums – they seem to be in denial about creation and ernie

        • Harrier25 says:

They are all just having a complete Curve love in on there and have no idea what a basket case its in danger of becoming!

        • Rui N. says:

They are quite interesting indeed. Some people here should go and read them, plenty of good arguments on how Curve might be conducting unlawfully, from FCA regs to GDPR and general consumer law. Also posted there are the complete T&Cs which define cash recycling solely as withdrawing from ATM and then depositing that money to pay the card back. So, good luck to Curve proving that their email about Ernie that backing on their T&Cs.

          • John says:

Yeah, but I can’t be bothered to submit documents or fight with them so I’m just not going to do it. Even though I was never a heavy MSer

          • JDB says:

@Rui N – you need to read the whole paragraph rather than just the first few sentences re Curve’s definition of cash recycling and the Fair Use Policy is incorporated within the T&Cs.

i am planning to travel with a friend using one of my 241 vouchers. I have enough Avios, but she’s now seen the error of her ways and started collecting miles too:) If I wanted to use some of her miles rather than all mine to pay for our 241 redemption, should I add her to my household account (we can make the addresses work to allow this) or is there a way to use some of her Avios (with her permission) during a booking? What’s the best way? conscious the BA IT changes mean I need to add to household quickly if that’s rhe best route! Thanks

    • BJ says:

Nectar transfer, but that will take 10+ days to get her avios to you. HHA is simplest and quickest.

      • Wollhouse says:

Thanks BJ. Will look at both.

      • Wollhouse says:

Sorry – just to be clear- if I go the nectar route. She has a gold card- she converts to her nectar card, then she is able to convert/transfer to MY BA account? (As Avios.com is no more)

That might be cleaner as it’s a one off whereas if I put her into a household account, I believe I can’t remove her for 6 months (or as long as their IT takes;) so I’d use a portion of her miles on any further redemptions- correct?? Thanks

        • Connor says:

Convert to Avios, then Nectar. You get a worse value if you convert to Nectar directly.

        • ChrisC says:

Yes that’s correct. Whilst she is in your HHA any redemptions you make will also come pro rata from her account as well. And ditto with any redemption bookings she makes.

        • BJ says:

To be clear you first mentioned converting miles hence I suggested her BAEC avios to a Nectar account to your BAEC account. That has mothing to do with amex cc. You then muddied the waters a little by replying in relation to amex cc. In that case Connor is correct, if she is transferring MR points then she should take those to Nectar via BAEC, not directly to Nectar. That done, you then proceed as I first suggested. Reports suggest that BAEC-Nectar transfers are typically taking 12-13 days, not the advertised 10 days.

          • Wollhouse says:

Thank you everyone, Think I’ll do this as we have the time. And who knows how long household IT changes (and rollbacks!j will really take BA;)

  • Iain says:

    Hello all.

I asked this last night but it was late on and will have been missed by most.

I have a reward flight coming up in a couple of weeks.
I also have 2 e-vouchers for a decent combined total from the promotion from a few weeks back.

Does anyone know if I could use those vouchers to add a hotel to my reward booking?

I have saw that you can use them for BA holidays but only if you phone them.

I just got through on the Avios line to ask. The agent said it wasn’t possible, though she did say she would transfer me to cash sales to ask before promptly cutting me off.

Can anyone advise if they believe I should be able to do this? Someone who did respond last night thought I should be able to.

I know that agents can sometimes be wrong…

    Thoughts?
