The HfP chat thread – Tuesday 28th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Hi folks – can you use IC amb free night on a Thur/Fri stay (ie does that count as a weekend)?

    • Richie says:

They could just take bmibaby off the shelf and with WW gone there would be no confusion.

    • ChrisBCN says:

Not that interesting, he clearly has a column to fill with little content so he’s making it all up…

    • Memesweeper says:

Absolutely. BA / IAG are clearly keen to keep these slots off the open market.

Any tips for a fit to fly RT-PCR test in the Rotherham/Sheffield area? Friend needs one -72hrs for travel to Dubai and is struggling to find somewhere close/suitable. Thanks 👍

    • Sandra says:

Do a Google search – fit to fly pcr Sheffield (or similar) it should bring up any in the area. Did a quick one & it brings up Abbeydale pharmacy on Abbeydale road in Sheffield but you/friends would have to read reviews (for that or any others) & see what is suitable!

      Biograd at Manchester airport?

  • Graham says:

So 8 have a 241 voucher expiring in Marc 2022 but want to use it to book AVIOS flights in Aug 2022. How to I extend the voucher ?

  • Jonathan says:

As long as you don’t apply for numerous different loans with a few days, like one immediately after the next you should be ok, but it’s always very dodgy making credit applications if sufficient time hasn’t passed. If you make what can be defined as too many (from a lenders point of view) it could make you look like you’re desperate for cash, and run up debts that you can’t pay off in manageable amounts. That’s how lenders look at things

Any ideas when BA flights to Crete will be released for 2022?

  • AL says:

On VS, I know that I need G availability in order to upgrade with FC miles from a Premium ticket in S. What is the equivalent I need to look out for in BA if I want to book, say, Premium and upgrade to Business using Avios? The formula for total Avios required appears to be Avios required in cabin to upgrade to minus Avios required for existing ticket. Is that right?

    • Jonathan says:

With BA upgrades, you need to pay the difference between the two cabins. So for short haul for instance, you need to pay an extra 17500 Avios (I think that’s the amount) for an upgrade when you’ve originally booked using Avios

      • AL says:

Thanks – so, a PE ticket is going for 26000 Avios and a CW is 50000. I assume the one-way upgrade is, then, 24000 Avios? Can any fare class be upgraded? They’re selling PE cash in T which appears to be a restrictive PE class.

        • Jonathan says:

The only tickets that can’t be upgraded with Avios is deep discount Economy class, the tickets that get the lowest amount of Avios per flight

  • BJ says:

Awesome day … managed to get a call through to BA and a nice competent CSA 🙂
