We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Just submitted MCOL against BA and it looks like the court fee went up to 35£ from 25…

  • Anuj says:

Is the creation no foreign exchange fees offer on online transactions too? Expires tomorrow

  • den says:

Does anyone have any experience of ‘nesting’ within the BA double tier points promotion eg EDI-LHR-OTP for a week with car hire to qualify for the 5 nights double tier points, but within that nest a OTP-LHR-EDI return the day after you arrived there and the day before your original leaves. If my maths is correct its 720 points (480 for the original return and 240 for the nested return) but not sure if BA would give you the double points if they can see you took a flight home and back within the original holiday?

    • planeconcorde says:

Won’t work according to the T&C point 2a, which states “…booking originating in the UK only… “. Your nested trip won’t be originating in the UK.

      • AJA says:

I think den is only expecting the double tier points on the outbound holiday booking. The nested return is only 240TP [(40+80)x2]

I still wouldn’t risk it. Just do two separate trips. You could do a back-to-back on a separate booking

Are you trying to achieve Gold status? You’d attain Silver just with the outbound booking. Not sure what benefit you get from the extra 240TP otherwise.

        • den says:

Yes AJA you are correct it would be 480 for the original (double TP) and then 240 (not double as planeconcorde points out)

Yes it was to get Gold, at 500 TPs now. Thanks both for the input. Will think about way forward.

          Cheers

Has anyone trued to use the new Dr. Vranjes offer from AMEX (Spend £100, get £20 back)?
The company’s payment methods are PayPal or Bank Transfer, with no facility available to pay using AMEX. Called AMEX customer services, but the problem didn’t get solved.

    • Manny_D says:

Are you sure the only payment methods are PayPal and Bank Transfer?

I’ve just had a quick look and it shows an option to pay by Credit Card online, after proceeding to checkout.

  • Tim Jackson says:

    Hi All,
Would love some advice please. We are travelling back from Dubai as family of 4 on BA Club Wolrd in December (used 1 companion voucher & Cash + miles). BA has moved our flight time from 2pm to 10am which is far from ideal. The only alertnative is 2am which is also not great. Given the signficant time-change and the fact that we don’t wish to cancel the holiday, is there anything we reasonably expect or ask of BA? We are flying out Premium so do you think there is any possibliity of an upgrade as compensation?

    • Anna says:

Knowing BA, I would say the chance of them agreeing to upgrade 4 of you in December would be pretty much non-existent. You’d probably be able to argue to move to another flight as the time change is significant but you’re probably stuck with BA flights or cancelling, which probably wouldn’t be desirable given the cost of booking new flights at this point.
Someone with more EU261 knowledge might be able to advise if you would be eligible for re-routing with another carrier under these circumstances but I imagine the options are limited.

    • Rob says:

No chance. 4 hours doesn’t even count as a change – it must be 4+ hours before BA will even let you cancel for free.

As you’re in Club, why not take the 2am the next day? Negotiate a late check-out for cash – switch hotels if needed – have another day of holiday and fly overnight. You’re in CW so you can sleep. BA will charge you £35 each for the change, though, because it doesn’t treat your booking as have been changed given its not 4+ hours.

The 10am flight is OK too. Your hotel will be doing breakfast from 6am so totally feasible to get up, eat and saunter down to the airport.

  • TrickyMarsh says:

I have a FTV that I really need to use against an existing booking, but can’t as it’s only for new bookings only, is there a way to convert it into an evoucher somehow?

    • Rob says:

If there are Avios in the FTV, no. If it is a cash booking, it should have been converted already automatically although I believe not all were done.

    • Anna says:

I’ve used several FTVs against existing bookings recently, though it’s possible I just got very obliging CSAs at BA Holidays! What kind of FTVs have you got?

      • Anna says:

Just to clarify – I suppose they were new bookings as in made since the FTVs were issued but one was made 5 months prior to the refund from the voucher being applied.

  • rams1981 says:

First supp bonus BA Amex. Doesn’t seem to automatically populate now. Used chat service and was told nonsense from 2 different agents as the chat disconnected:
    1) they need to spend £500 first
    2) offer not valid for cards after 1st September
Showed them the weblink then they said it can take 90 days. Anyone else had this?

    • Anna says:

I’m still waiting for the bonus for a gold from about 4 weeks ago. Told 60 days max. Chat staff have suddenly gone really downhill, I’ve also had some complete nonsense responses from them recently!

    • Benilyn says:

I have not been getting them….

    • Guernsey Globetrotter says:

Yes – this seems to be really hit-and-miss at present. Not received one recently on a business platinum supp and currently chasing a personal one too where I got the 90 day spiel. It does make you wonder what goes on behind the scenes when a system process that seems to be working perfectly well suddenly stops working, when there’s been no apparent change to the terms or underlying mechanism.

  • GJB says:

We are going to Peppa Pig world on 26th October, we’ll need a hotel within 45 minutes drive for the night before. Any recommendations? It’ll be the wife and two young kids. I have diamond with Hilton but doesn’t have to be a chain. We will be arriving from the north west.

    • Michael C says:

Hi GJB, I don’t have a specific hotel, but Winchester is a great base. Also has the science museum/Round Table, nice for kids!

    • Bigmaggot says:

Hilton at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton is very close and have aways treated me well as Diamond. Was buffet breakfast in covid and also free drinks vouchers as lounge was shut (though did have to ask for them at checkin). Second room for kids was half price when phoning up and kids eat free in restaurant

      • John says:

Poor reviews recently – possibly because they were swamped with families during school holidays (and will be again during half-term)
