We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone else facing issues withdrawing from NSI today? keep getting error message
    “Error when calling the routine:”

  • yorkieflyer says:

thinking of getting the train from Gatwick to see the folks on the way home and just occurred to me that that I don’t know whether the inter terminal shuttle had restarted?

BPme conversion to avios – I downloaded the app, registered, got 500points, went to BP garage and spent £1, 1 point shows up on balance, but when I go to convert to avios the page shows
“You must be an active member of BPme Rewards, to activate you membership please make a minimum of purchase of £1 using your registered BPme Rewards card or app.”
Anyone know how to fix this, seeing that deadline for conversion bonus is end of today?

    • John says:

      Make another purchase of £1?

      • elguiri says:

not worth going out of my way to the nearest garage for, just not happy that following the steps the website (and article here) stated, it doesn’t seem to have worked, despite clearly showing I’ve gained the extra point, which would show activation (from my understanding)

Nearly 1500 Shangri-la Rewards expiring at the end of this year.

As a Jade, this is worth $187 to spend in a restaurant/ bar, right?

Any way to keep them from expiring, or do I have to visit the Shard?

    • Benilyn says:

Worth “nearly $150”, no uplift as Jade
No idea on how to keep them

      • Rich says:

Ah yes, I remember now that the Shard doesn’t give the extra 25%.

After a little digging, I found that buying points doesn’t extend them. They have a hard expiry of 31 Dec, three years after you earned them. But it’s only my oldest 250 points that expire this year (freebies from a H4P article in 2018!).

Can anyone advise if I can use the free curve backed by Capital on tap to pay HMRC? Something tells me I can’t but I can’t recall the reason!

    • Reney says:

Basically no. Not sure if you could pay the 1.5% fronted fee. Most people buy metal to do this.

  • John says:

    Hi,
Does anyone have experience of/advice about getting a rapid PCR test done near-ish to JFK?
A quick google returned some testing being available at Terminal 1, although the ‘apply’ link redirected to a dead url so not very confidence inspiring.
    Thanks in advance!

    • The Canuck says:

How rapid do you need? In Manhattan, Manhattan Medical Arts gives PCR results in 30 minutes. Otherwise, plenty of clinics that will return in 4-8 hours.

I’ve heard the Terminal 1 testing does reliably return results in the timelines they specify (I think 6 hours for PCR but don’t recall exactly)

      • John says:

Thanks – the idea was to be connecting through from another state… where most of the PCR tests seem to be of the 24-36 for results hour variety.
So ideally something that could be fit into a connection – even if that’s overnight – and ideally something that doesn’t involve going into the city proper.
Thanks for the feedback on the T1 testing!

        • Pete M says:

Just to double-check, John, you are not flying to the UK (where you wouldn’t need a PCR)?

          • John says:

Nah to Moscow. Aeroflot’s website is very specific about PCR being on the results page, so I think a NAAT won’t do either (which is what my originating airport is offering instead of PCR now seemingly).

  • PQTR says:

Amex plat travel insurance – cancellation benefit – do I need to have paid with the plat card to have this benefit, for will any Amex do (e.g. BAPP)?

I thought had to pay with plat, but the T&Cs say only you need to pay with your “Card Account”, which is defined as “your consumer and small business cards issued by Amex in the UK” – so seems to suggest any amex would count?

Any insights/clarifications from those (with experience or otherwise) gratefully appreciated!

Has anyone heard any more on the pair of Clubhouse vouchers for Silver Members on Virgin Atlantic? I e-mailed them to see if there was any chance I’d get them before a Premium Economy trip I have booked for November to New York and they responded with this:

Thank you for getting in touch. I hope you’re well!
As a Silver member you would not normally be awarded a Clubhouse pass.
Do you know why this was being given to you?
The benefits of being a Silver member can be found on our website here: https://flywith.virginatlantic.com/gb/en/flying-club/members/membership-tiers.html

I couldn’t find anywhere official with this info so shared with them the HFP article but wondered if anyone had heard anything else?
