The HfP chat thread – Monday 27th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

I wonder if Super Secret Stuff enjoyed the Conrad?

    • Super Secret Stuff says:

I did indeed, particularly the breakfast! Gold standard. Full review in tomorrow’s chat. Few issues at first but resolved quickly but just discovered the lock on my case is broken, the only time it was out of my sight was when locked in the baggage store, no signs of fowl play but maybe no due care?

      • Super Secret Stuff says:

Had to cut the built in lock, so a bit annoyed!

      • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

Wonderful, I look forward to reading your rewiew SSS, did you book via Emyr?

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

Yes I did, the free breakfast through Emyr is for the continental, English breakfast and A la carte (which is amazing, highly recomend)

          • Cabal of rabid baboons says:

Excellent, I’ll look forward to to reading your review tomorrow

      • BJ says:

@SSS, well if it wasn’t the birds I guess it was the butler that did it!

        • Super Secret Stuff says:

Hahaha, damn butlers. Can’t find the staff these days!

I joke, it was the man in reception . Not sure where they actually store the cases but nothing is missing so clumsiness probably. However might drip hilton an Email to express my frustration. I liked that case!

          • BJ says:

You might want to tread carefully there. Hilton has a track record of closing accounts of people who complain too much.

          • Lady London says:

I’d leave it. Any mention of surprise on finding that should have been on the spot and verbal.

  • Stephen says:

Has anyone recently paid Stamp Duty using their Curve card with Virgin as underlying card?

    • Stephen says:

Or does anyone know if Virgin treats all HMRC payments with the same MCC? Thanks

      • Stephen says:

9399 Government Services (Not Elsewhere Classified)
        9311 Tax Payments

        Any recent experience with these?

  • Tarmohamed says:

Probably late now, so if no reply, I’ll post again tomorrow.

Can you pay seagulls with beardy via curve? Can’t test this myself as beardy hasn’t arrived yet.

    • Stephen says:

It’s hit and miss, sometimes it refuses to allow the transaction, but couldn’t find a pattern

  • Iain says:

Probably a bit late for a question, but here goes!

Does anyone know if I can use an e-voucher to pay to add a hotel to an existing booking?
You can’t do it online, but I wonder if worth while phoning up to ask? I know you can pay for holidays if you phone, so I’m hopeful!

    • DZOO says:

Yes you should be able to over the phone – assuming you can get through and your holiday is not imminent as it can take some time to be processed

  • Elguiri says:

Any recommendations for a two night stay in Portsmouth?
