  Got moved by Ofgem to British Gas when PFP Energy went out of business the other week.
  The tariff I’ve been moved to is called Price Promise Apr 2022. This is a variable tariff.
  The prices look dreadful (e.g. Electricity 20.59p per kWh, and standing charge of 25.09p per day).

  A quick glance at the energy club over on MSE suggests there may not be anything significantly better out there.

  As there are no exit fees on this tariff, would it be best just to remain until there are signs that prices will be going down again? do we even have an idea when that might be?
  I’m thinking if I rush into a fixed tariff now, I might regret it say 6 months later.

    Prices reflect the wholesale supply costs right now.

    Like you say best to monitor the situation and fix when things look better. You can set a notification on MSE for it to notify you when you can save a certain amount

    Join the MSE energy club. when prices do drop it will let you know that a better tariff is available.

    Historically, the best time to fix, for the longest possible period, has been towards or after the end of the northern hemisphere heating season and before the air conditioning demand starts up, so March to May. Alternatively, whenever there is some oil/gas glut but the producers are unfortunately usually quite disciplined about preventing that, but not always.

      Its hard to see electricity getting cheaper in the medium term, Hunterston B (1.2MW) is being decommissioned in Jan 2022 and Hinkley B (1.3MW) in July 2022. During Dunkelflaute electricity prices are going to soar as we’ll have less base generating capacity until Hinkley C is operational in 2024/25.

    Stay where you are for now, nowhere cheaper to jump to.

    Look at reducing your power bill by say having less showers at home ( i go tot he gym!), .

    Anything that heats up water should be used less if possible

    Over the next six months, anyone who isn’t on a fix is likely to end up paying the price cap. So to some extent it doesn’t really matter who your supplier is.

      Some fixed tariffs are more than the price cap, so in a lot of cases the cap will be cheaper

        Cap is going to be lifted significantly at the next review in April. So cap might be cheaper in the short term. But not necessarily over a 12 / 24 month period. Though gas prices fall then things may look very different

    Yes me too, from PFP. However, they seem to have only transferred the electricity……no mention of my gas service 😱. Will need to call tomorrow….
    Don’t see any benefit in jumping ship just now either…..

      With Avro and gas…I started a switch about 5 days before they went bust. For some reason the company I am moving to could not see my gas supply. I had to manually give them the meter details for the dual switch to go ahead.

    May or may not be useful to you but I just changed supplier to Sainsbury’s as came with 12,000 nectar points but has no exit fees. As points come about 30 days from activation, my plan is to receive those and them look for a possible better tariff.

    If nothing immediately better out there, then at least I’ve got fixed price for next 24 months that i can leave at any time should costs plummet

      They are relaxing measures for fully vaccinated residents from 14 days quarantine (incl. 3 days in government hotel) to 10 days at home in October. My Japanese friends and colleagues there is no desire to open up before summer 2022 for general tourism, but the new Japanese PM who is yet to be elected might change all that.

    Well they just spend $15bn on an Olympics and kept their borders closed and made everyone go home the second they had finished competing. On that basis they aren’t going to rush to welcome back general tourists.

    Japan is pretty insular and no doubt the local population doesn’t want an influx of mainland Chinese given the history and cultural differences. Equally Japan it far to diplomatic to just open to preferred countries.

    Australia/NZ are now looking into 2022 and Japan will almost certainly follow a similar path.

  I have a couple of questions on changing a open jaw flight on BA MMB. I have a flights out from LHR – SOF and a return TFS-LHR, one of which was cancelled so MMB gives me the option of changing both flights.

  1) if I change the dates on one of the flights can I go back and change the date of the other flight at a later date or do I have to change both flights times at the same time?

  2) Would MMB let me change the ordering of the flights? So in the above instance could I move the dates of the TFS- LHR to be before the flights from LHR-SOF.

  Thanks. I just didn’t want to limit my options by changing one of the flights and finding I couldn’t go back and change the other.

  There was a report last year that BA were renovating the lounges at Chicago ORD. Does anyone know if this has happened and also if the first and business class lounges (either renovated or not) are open?

  Regarding Portugal entry requirements fiasco, this appeared in the newspaper today:

  “A previous version of this article stated UK travellers would not need a test, however the situation based on Visit Portugal’s guidance published online is unclear, and we are seeking further confirmation”

  I suppose a simple Yes or No is out of the question.

    I go to Portugal most weeks and use C-9 testing which is only £29 a time for a fit to fly lateral flow certificate (I am double jabbed). Not worth the risk of not having one, passport control asked to see my test result on Friday when I arrived.
