Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The HfP chat thread – Friday 24th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Dvla now accept Amex, as a useful way of hitting Amex spending targets!

  • David says:

Simple – buy a sofa bed – you move out of your bedroom and on to the sofa bed – problem solved.

  • Rh says:

I just messaged up an Avios booking about 30 mins ago. Is there any easy way to cancel without having to phone up and sit on hold for ages? I don’t want a voucher?
Is Twitter the easiest way? Thanks.

    • Anna says:

They can do it on Twitter but comments earlier today suggest people are being told they are too busy to deal with travel beyond the start of October, probably due to all the queries they are now getting about LGW!

      • ChrisC says:

What I would do is message them on twitter, tell them you want to cancel within 24 hours of booking for the full refund

If they tell you to go away then screen shot it to use as evidence you tried to cancel in the 24 hours when they later try and tell you that you didn’t contact them in time.

Ridiculous you have to do it that way.

They really need to improve the ‘self serve’ options for all types of bookings or have a proper messaging system.

      • BJ says:

@Anna, I saw your reply to me about twitterearlier and sent a message. They haven’t replied all day but thanks anyway 🙂

    • Den says:

Try this No BA EXEC 0207 9493086

    • Rh says:

      Thanks for the replies!

  • Rma says:

Reply to Richie on previous page. Everyone on both bookings has the same surname.

  • Graham says:

What is the best way to book an open jaw AVIOS flight using a 2-4-1 voucher ie do I have to call BA or can I book them separately online and then tag them to the 2-4-1 voucher ?

  • Venturelog says:

Just to confirm as I’m sure this has been asked before, can a BA return flight booking be converted into eVoucher after the 1st leg has been flown? And if so, the value is half?

    • ChrisC says:

      Yes

No it’s not half because some of the proper taxes and airport fees are asymetric.

  • @mkcol says:

I replied the other day to Curve’s “you’ve been fiddling the system by investing in NS&I” email to ask on what basis etc etc.
They replied today to say “ooops sorry, but what are all these cash withdrawals & payments to Monese? Provide 3 months statements & we’ll unlock your account”.

    Sigh.

    • Harry T says:

Unsure if this is a parody of our beloved Ali…

    • Char Char says:

      This must be a prank:
      1. Curve replying with a few days
      2. Curve making sense

    • Anna says:

So … you’ve not had the grovelling apology email like Andrew H?

    • BJ says:

This one today was even funnier than the last, wondering why they sent it to me.

    • The Streets says:

Don’t think it was just you who got this email. Generic one went round

      • @mkcol says:

It was just me who got them apologising for the first email, but then trying to pick fault with me drawing cash at an ATM & funding Monese with £1500/month.

        • Babyg says:

why did you poke the beast… seems like a waste of time… and now more time to get your acc sorted… i do wonder what people are trying to achieve – eg what good is a templated apology going to do you?… if youre bored stick the the forums, your account wont get locked her.. oh wait..

  • Pete M says:

“UK on brink of joining EU Covid vaccine passport scheme

The Telegraph has been told by EU that integration of the UK’s jabs database into bloc’s system is at advanced stage.”

That would be quite handy, finally!
