American Express is throwing out travel-based cashback offers from all directions this week. The latest two deals offer £100 back if you can put your spending in the right place.
These two promotions follow on from the Marriott, Hyatt, Thistle and WorldHotels cashback deals we’ve covered over the last week – click through if you missed those offers.

For American Express Business cardholders …..
This one only seems to have appeared for Business cardholders, but let’s see.
Holders of Business Platinum and Business Gold are being offered £100 cashback on a £400 spend with American Express Travel.
The offer runs to 22nd November.
This offer probably works best for flight bookings, because hotels booked via American Express Travel are treated as third party bookings and do not qualify for status benefits or loyalty points.
There is one upside. As we wrote here, American Express Travel now allows you to pre-pay American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings. This would allow you to combine the strong benefits of an FHR stay with the £100 cashback.
(Pre-paying your FHR booking may disqualify you from status benefits and loyalty points, although you will get these if an FHR booking is paid at the hotel. Most FHR hotels are not part of major loyalty programmes, however. FHR is only a benefit for Business Platinum cardholders, not Business Gold.)
I have never used an American Express Travel cashback offer because of the issues over status benefits, but now that FHR is included I might be able to do something with this one.

For everyone else …..
Last week saw the offer of £50 cashback on a £200 cumulative spend across the Marriott Bonvoy hotels listed in this PDF document. These are mainly mid-range properties, although the list also includes the University Arm in Cambridge and the Sheraton Grand on Park Lane in London.
A new ‘luxury’ offer has now appeared.
You will receive £100 cashback when you spend £400 in selected upscale Marriott Bonvoy hotels across the UK and continental Europe listed in this PDF document. UK hotels include Turnberry and The Langley. Ignore The Westbury which is closed for refurbishment and indeed recently auctioned off all of its furnishings ….
It runs to 31st December 2021.
There are a lot of great hotels here, including the iconic Venice ones, so you may be able to squeeze in a decent Autumn break. £400 won’t necessarily get you far at these places but if you have the offer on multiple Amex cards you could split the bill at check-out and trigger multiple bonuses.
If you ARE booking any Marriott properties on this list, do drop a note to our hotel booking partner Emyr Thomas via this page. He can get you added benefits – including free breakfast, a food and drink credit and an upgrade – via the STARS and Luminous programmes runs by Marriott for luxury travel agents. You will pay the same as the flexible rate shown online and you pay at the hotel as usual so there’s nothing to lose.
