We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

How do you book assistance on BA? Can it be done online or do I need to call to do it?

I’m doing EDI/LCY with my mum and she will need a wheelchair and probably ambulift.

    Thanks

  • Richie says:

Can you take a lateral flow covid-19 test kit in your hand luggage or does it need to be checked in?

    • StevieKicks says:

Fine in hand luggage, put the liquid in your liquid bag if possible

    • Duncan says:

You can, but you may need to put the vial of test solution in with your liquids.

      • Richie says:

Thanks. I’m flying on Friday afternoon, any suggestions for reliable delivery providers?

        • Phil says:

Qured were quick for us. They used Amazon for fulfilment.

        • Duncan says:

I used Chronomics and didn’t have any problems, but only one data point. Shipped with DPD next day, so they should have no problem getting to you by Friday. https://www.chronomics.com/test-to-return

          • J says:

Our Chronomics experience has been awful. Four tests ordered – one leaving the UK test didn’t register, so the day before travel was very stressful trying to get it sorted. And one returning to the UK test box was empty. They have not responded to messages about it, so we need to arrange a test abroad before return. Of the 2 out of 4 that did work, they were great…

          • Beardless Hipster says:

            Chronomics now reduced to £18.80

        • AFKAE says:

Both C19 and Prenetics have done next day delivery for me very recently.

When do BAP avios sweep over to the BAEC account. Thanks

  • Peggerz says:

    Good Morning.
I have a stay at the Hilton T4 soon. I’ll be there from about 2pm and away v early next morning for a flight. With the connection to T4 closed etc is it worth walking into Bedfont/Feltham (1 mile?) and, if so, any recommendations for pubs/food? Thanks……

    • Cats are best says:

From long ago memory, it’s a pretty grim area for walking until you can get away from the main road, I’m not sure there are any crossing points nearby.

If you’ve hours to kill and want to get out, I’d be more inclined to walk along the access road to the terminal and then get the tube into town, plenty of good places in the Gloucester Road – South Kensington (station closed but it’s a short walk from Gloucester Road station) – Knightsbridge area, all on the Piccadilly line. Or change at Turnham Green and get the tube down to Richmond, if the weather is good you can stroll by the river or the green, and there are some great places to eat outside.

      • Save East Coast Rewards says:

Heathrow T4 tube closed so would need to get a bus. The Piccadilly line only stops at Turnham Green early morning and late evening so you’re likely to have to change at Hammersmith for a District line to Richmond

    • Sam G says:

The lobby area is actually quite pleasant to sit for a drink/food but Hilton prices. Easy enough to get the bus into Feltham there is a bus stop just opposite, I wouldn’t walk it personally not very pleasant. But nothing much of note to offer there tbh just the usual small town centre type shops. You could go to the Green Man at Hatton Cross decent enough pub grub.

    • Peggerz says:

      Thanks for the replies.

  • Andrew H says:

Curve is getting a bit confusing with it’s rewards

Some are if you use the card – like Airtime

Some are if you visit the site through them only – like T.C.B etc

  • Ollie says:

I’ve read there have been some issues calling the US BA number at midnight to try and secure flights, with them not being willing/able to book Avois redemptions. Has anyone done this recently, and if so, which number did you use?

  • Scottydogg says:

Flying out of Gatwick North next month.
We have priority passes (that we havent got much use out of)
Our flight out is late so we were wanting to get into No1 lounge , are they still doing the thing where you have to pay £5 to pre book of have they scrapped that for now ?
I dont fancy going to that Club Aspire one down stairs as i found that place pretty depressing and ive never actually seen the My Lounge open !

    • Travel Strong says:

Check the priority pass app for the latest lounge opening times. Chances are, the lounge is closed if you are on a late flight.
(And may need to check again closer to the time)

  • QwertyKnowsBest says:

Morning, summing up the will to call BA to rebook (for when US open) a Avios/BA Amex companion booking. I cannot remember the best number to call BA on? Silver but last time called Silver they instructed me to call another number for Avios booking.

    Thanks for any help.
