We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Must this IHG offer Was well timed just been sent to the O2 for a couple days this week and then possibly to another IHG venue soon.

Also just noticed my wallet is falling apart. Given people here carry a fair number of cards does anyone have any recommendations for card holders /wallets?

  • TGLoyalty says:

Either he’s on holiday (switches his phone off) or got nothing to lol about right now …

    • Lady London says:

Would have thought the US news would have brought a comment.

    • Rachel Robinson says:

Assume this is in reply to my question re Chris C, which seems to have been removed! Not sure why – it wasn’t offensive, and I see plenty of posts openly mocking and being rude to contributors that remain.

  • Lee says:

Just cancelled 24th Oct BA 3 CW tickets to Maldives if anyone interested

How are people finding payment speeds for using their Amex Offers?

It wasn’t long ago that I received either a push message or email immediately after making a qualifying purchase, which was quite reassuring. These seemed to have now stopped for me and I’m finding I’m now waiting much longer to receive any statement credits. Some recent examples:

Morrison’s offer – Paid last Monday and have received no notification or credit.
B&Q offer – Paid last Monday and have received no notification or credit.
Boots offer – Paid last Wednesday and have received the credit but no notification.

Has anyone else noticed these issues or had similar problems? Has anyone queried these with Amex? (I’m aware the T&Cs state to wait up to 90 days for the credit but I’m not sure if to contact them before this date?)

    • Youllnever says:

Amex CS told me they have stopped sending out offer used confirmation emails, so you shouldn’t expect these anymore.

Regarding the statement credit, it does seem to take a little longer recently.

    • davef says:

It does depend on the merchant’s payment processor. I had H&B not track at earlier this year. Contacted on live chat after my statement date which was about 2 weeks after the transaction and they added it.
Said they cant see any info from the processor that H&B use.

    • Tocsin says:

Data point for Morrisons – used on last day (15 Sep), offer marked as expired 16 Sep. Decided to wait until 20 Sep before chasing (and forgot to). Credit posted this morning.

Does anyone know whether it’s possible to get a pre-departure test at GVA prior to entering the UK?

    • Beardless Hipster says:

Have you checked the GVA website before asking here? I just did and I know the answer.

    • Heathrow Flyer says:

Antigen tests are free from m3 Sanitrade in GVA for passengers travelling. To save yourself rushing you can get one in the city the day before. PCR is 50 CHF I believe.

  • den says:

I received a strange email from BA this morning, normal pre-flight email with correct booking reference on but it reads:
    “Dear Mr …,

With a little while until take off, now’s a great time to put in place the things you need to do, to make sure you’re ready to fly to Milan on 05 October 2021.”

My flight is NCL-LHR, I’m not going to Milan. I double checked in the app its definitely NCL-LHR. Is it just a typo or something I should be concerned about?
    Cheers

I have £10 off a £25 spend at Marston’s pubs on my Gold and mum’s Gold Supp.

Could be interesting, because one of the pubs on the list told me before that they don’t take Amex, just as a contactless transaction was approved. Another pub on the list has a list of cards that they accept and Amex isn’t on there.
Nevertheless, £20 off a meal is probably worth a bit of aggro!

    • Laura says:

List of cards… On their website!

    • TGLoyalty says:

I Always just tap and see. Never ask unless that fails.

More interestingly it expires in 13 days! Must be one of the shortest offers in a while.

    • Jody says:

Thanks for this, had it on my BA card and my husband had it on his BA supp. We’re normally a bit limited where we can eat out, but my local has confirmed they have a dedicated fryer for gluten free food, so will actually get to make use of it!

      • Peter K says:

        Hey, that’s good Jody!!

Just discovered our local fish and chip shop has started to offer gluten free fish batter….but in the normal fryer 😭

    • Tw33ty says:

Just using ours right night, it’s nothing earth shattering, but £20 off a £50 meal means coming here for a change instead off usual place.

  • Grimz says:

Posted this yesterday and hopeful of some more advice before I call BA? Thanks to those who replied yesterday:

BA have changed my flight time on my domestic leg by 5hrs+ on my flight from INV -LHR – MIA. Does this give me any right to ask for a change to fly from ABZ – LHR – ORL a day later? The changes are within 300miles for INV – ABZ and MIA – ORL.

    • Nick says:

Change of gateway is only applicable to cancelled sectors, not time changes. However, a 5hr change does allow full cancellation so it’s worth asking them as they may be willing to offer it instead. If your US flights aren’t affected then unlikely to apply there, only in scotland.

Before you call, it’s worth checking whether your preferred itinerary is cheaper anyway, as you could just take a refund and book from scratch.

Also, guessing you mean MCO? ORL is not actually an airport code…
