We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

BA have changed my flight time on my domestic leg by 5hrs+ on my flight from INV -LHR – MIA. Does this give me any right to ask for a change to fly from ABZ – LHR – ORL a day later? The changes are within 300miles for INV – ABZ and MIA – ORL.

    • Andrew says:

Be mindful that Inverness is operated by HIAL and has special low tax arrangements. Aberdeen doesn’t.

      • ChrisC says:

APD could be an issue here as Inverness (along with some other Scotish Airports no matter who owns them) is exempt from APD but ABZ isn’t

Last year I was booked INV-LHR-JFK and the INV-LHR was cancelled and BA just booked be LHR-JFK with no extra to pay.

But that change was ‘forced’ on me.

You asking to change (via BA policy not some legal right) to ABZ is a different matter so I do think BA would be charging you the APD because the Government requires it to.

        • Grimz says:

I am requesting the change because BA has moved my flight by 5+ hrs which can be classed as a cancellation? I have had other flights changed like this at no extra cost but that was because my flight was cancelled on 1 leg of my journey.

          • ChrisC says:

No it’s not classed as a cancellation unless it’s actually been cancelled (which includes a change of flight number).

  • Curve says you're a very very naughty boy says:

As you may be aware, we have an obligation to monitor transactions through Curve accounts. We have noticed certain transactions taking place on your account, that might prevent us from continuing to provide our services to you.

Specifically, we have observed a number of transactions at NS&I that indicate that cash recycling may be occuring, (e.g. revolving borrowed or own funds between financial institutions for financial gain). We value your custom and want to keep your account open and active, however, we must remind you that such activity is against our Terms of Service, our Fair Use Policy, NS&I’s terms and conditions and potentially also your card issuer’s terms and conditions.

If we continue to observe this kind of account activity, Curve will unfortunately have to suspend your account until we have been able to confirm that the activity is not cash-recycling and has a legitimate purpose.

We look forward to your continued use of Curve.

    • Blenz101 says:

Funny company. They could stop such transactions if they wanted tomorrow but would see transaction volumes fall of a cliff.

On the other hand if they allow it to go unchecked they risk all major card issuers blocking them Creation style.

Do you go big and just let them shut you down or do you reign it in and hope the option still exists in a few months?

    • AndyGWP says:

      Cash recycling? 🤔🤨

    • TGLoyalty says:

Are you doing the exact same amount every time … 8 days apart or something?

Do you use it for anything but NS&I?

    • xcalx says:

I got the same email, this coming a week after the supply details email.

  • Will says:

Ref Marriott SNA, got 5 expiring at end of year that were earned though 50 nights in 2020.

Anyone remember when they announced the extensions for previous year? Was hoping to have them roll over as partner is about to give birth and won’t be going anywhere until ‘22

    • berneslai says:

SNAs were extended in April 2020 to cover the period to Dec 2021. I’m not sure they’ll extended again unless they want to do something to match the recent Hilton announcement.

      • TGLoyalty says:

Those earned through nights in 2020 were never extended (they expire Dec 21 anyway)

I hope they’re extended as I have 9 and can’t see me using them as most places exclude their use!

  • YC says:

Is it right that all you get onboard BA euro traveller is a bottle of water and a snack (e.g. crisp)? I have a 5hr flight to AMM and there is no option to buy on board? Contemplating pre-purchasing if this is the case…

    • Alex M says:

That was a case on my 4 hrs flight from Moscow. Really appalling.

    • Memesweeper says:

      Yes, sadly, that’s it.

    • David B says:

Recently flew up to Glasgow from Heathrow and back down to City.
On the way up it was a bottle of water and crisps but returning to LCY I was offered an (alcoholic) drink from the bar and a choice of chocolate brownie or crisps. I think you tend to get a better offer if you use LCY but admittedly it also costs a bit extra.

    • VickyTM says:

I flew two days ago from Sofia to LHR in BA economy and was able to purchase drinks on board

    • Tim says:

BA now offer Buy on Board via shop.ba.com when connected to their WiFi. I believe it was trialled on some routes but now active on all? People within the airline or @Rob and @Rhys will be best off answering this. But I believe the crisps+water offering has ended?

  • Nathan says:

Hi would anyone please know If entering Italy from the U.K. is it possible to fill out the passenger locator form in paper copy at Heathrow check in or is it mandatory to complete it online beforehand?

    Many thanks

    • Matthew says:

When I went to Venice last week and they didn’t even check my digital PLF. BA gave us another paper form to fill out on the plane with almost the exact same questions although we were told it was “different.” Other than carrier specific one they also made us fill on the plane which the crew collected on-board before landing, none of my other forms were checked at the border. They only asked for my test result and the didn’t even want to read it. As I was taking it out of my bag he just stamped the passport and waived me through. Obviously YMMV depending on which check-in or border agent you encounter but they don’t really seem that fussed on it all. If you can fill it in online, I would anyway just to avoid any last minute trouble but the likelihood it’s actually scanned or even checked is probably very low.

  • Bill says:

I have not received the password reset email for the Aspire Rewards app. Do I now need to go on the executivelounges.com website and ask for help ?

  • Tariq says:

Email from Marriott today – ‘Week of Wonders’ is back from 7 October.

    • Rob says:

It is. We are hoping to be supporting it with some fun and games …. still TBC though.

    • Peter K says:

Wow, the exclusions in the c@shb@ck include things like new/used car sales and car services and antique dealers!

    • Mr. AC says:

Wow, the whole thing looks seriously underwhelming. Even the 1% CB is tainted by the huge number of exclusions.
      – Hospital fees <- so no CB on COVID tests?
      – Government services not classified elsewhere <- I think a lot of English Heritage sites have this code…
      – Professional and financial services <- Amazon occasionally charges with this
      etc etc
      Probably won't bother with them.

      • Chrisasaurus says:

Yes I’m with you and the vast majority of my monthly spend is on Covid tests, English Heritage and occasionally Amazon 🙄
