The HfP chat thread – Monday 20th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Anyone stayed at Distrikt New York (Tapestry Collection)?

    • Michael C says:

I’ve always been a little put off location-wise, right opposite the Port Authority building.

    • Sam G says:

Used to stay there frequently quite a few years back for work. Lovely rooms & each floor only has a couple of rooms on so it’s very quiet at night . But very little in the way of other facilities and the location isn’t the best in terms of the locality but is ideal if you are out and about every day & nighy using the subway etc

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Stayed in 2014. Liked it. Some nice touches to the room and service, furnishings in good nick, and the location pretty convenient for 42nd st stations. Walkable from Penn station too if you’re coming in from EWR.

  • Rosie says:

Can anyone tell me if I can transfer my balance on my Amex BA free card to barclaycard

I hear some credit cards will not transfer from Amex as they don’t recognise the long number

    • Anna says:

There shouldn’t be an issue – I’m sure I’ve done this previously. If it doesn’t work online it should in theory be possible to do it by phone.

    • Amy C says:

Done this by phone to my Santander but wouldn’t work online due to the aforementioned reasons.

    • Harry T says:

I’ve transferred from Amex to Barclaycard online before with no issues.

  • Laura says:

Thank the lord for BA’s flexible booking policy at the moment. Managed to book a flight in July for the same day I’ve got tickets for a Foo Fighters gig.
    Oops!

  • YH says:

Does the BA Holidays double tier points offer work for AA flights booked with a BA codeshare? The T&Cs seem to indicate this should be the case, but when booking through the BA Holidays website, the double tier points offer box disappears when selecting the AA (BA coded) flights.

    • Rich says:

I believe the Double Tier Points label in the search results is meaningless. I saw it on a couple of itineraries, but not many. It seems like the double TPs won’t post anyway, and you’ll have to chase with CS.

According to the T&Cs, BA marketed flights are OK. Screenshot the T&Cs though…

      • YH says:

Thank you – already screenshotted just in case.

      • ChrisC says:

Most of the comments I’ve seen about the points not posting have been those thsat didn’t read the T&Cs which said they would post within a month of the return flight.

Yes I;ve seen the odd comment of people having to chase but that’s very few.

  • Aston100 says:

Anyone used Travel19 for their day 2 test?
Seem to be charging £20 for double vaccinated return from amber list, which doesn’t feel right.

  • Rory says:

My employer is booking travel for me, however it’s not a good option. (They won’t let me book my own). Would I get the FTV or would the company get it if I cancelled and rebooked myself? I’m the only person on the booking. Cheers!

    • ChrisC says:

Is this being booked by or via your firms corporate TA?

If so be very careful as many firms have this set up so any changes to the booking – even selecting seats – get reported to them and they may not like you doing this.

      • Blenz101 says:

Very likely also any change beyond selecting seats won’t be possible anyway and BA will ask you to contact the TA to make changes as they don’t have control over the ticket.

And unless you have the express consent of your employer I wouldn’t do it. What is to stop you switching your paid work ticket to a FTV and using on a nice leisure booking and taking a LCC for work?

    • Memesweeper says:

Speak to your employer’s travel agent

  • Aston100 says:

Are Radisson Rewards held in high regard? Never see any mention of them on here.

Got my gold status through Amex Plat and thought I’d finally make use of it.
I was making a booking at a Radisson Blu but the reservations manager was not interested in giving an upgrade other than the same type of room but with a view of the pool.

Rang the Rewards team and after a few minutes they got me what seemed to be a double upgrade.
I was very pleased, given how terrible (for example) IHG are in comparison.

    • Aston100 says:

For clarity, I meant IHG Rewards customer services in general. The hotels themselves seem to upgrade me just fine.

    • Sandgrounder says:

I’ve always done well as Gold in Scandinavia and the Baltic States. Had a nice double upgrade in Riga last week.

    • Rob says:

Radisson doesn’t really engage with us and, to be honest, they aren’t doing much that we’d want to cover.

  • Patrick Cold says:

    Aaaawwww boo hoo hoo.
