We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions. With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind. At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article. This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Has anybody received their bonus Creation Marriott card Bonvoy points from the triple point promo yet? According to T&Cs it ran from 31/5-31/7 and the bonus points (i.e. 2 additional per £ spent) should have posted “4-6 weeks after the promotion end date of 31 July 2021”. By my reckoning, that meant a backstop date of 11 Sept but still no sign of any credit for me 🙁

How do people on here manage to do so many Amex referrals ? I find it a chore and not worth it unless there’s a referral bonus on my side.

    Exactly. There are ways without doing the 2 year break. Depends how the numbers add up. But with 15k referral currently on gold, it’s worth it. Have to decide now whether it’s worth keeping now the yr 2 fee has been charged.

    This comment, taken with the earlier one about 241s suggests something that affects the whole loyalty programme. Can’t think of any good ideas though, other than BA filing for bankruptcy, which seems a bit dramatic.

can anyone help
I booked a flight from Tokyo to Lhr in the half price Avios sale. It was supposed to fly on the 24 of September but ba cancelled it about 6 weeks ago.
I jumped on the website tonight to cancel it and get refunded and its vanished, my booking reference and everything its all just disappeared?
I though I had unto 48 hours before the flight was supposed to leave to claim a refund?
Have I got to now call? I tried to call them all last week to inquire about moving the dates of the flight but couldn’t get through?
I also don’t have my booking reference any more as all the details have been erased and I can’t find it in either upcoming or the previous booking page of my account.

  The only thing I can find is the redemption itself, that was made on the 13th of October 2020 and it was the last day of the Avios half price sale.

    You will have to call but will need the booking reference. It will be in your initial confirmation email.
    
    Thought it may not show online, they’ll be able to find it as sometimes it gets “purged” to another system.

My flight on Tuesday will mean I have enough tier points for Gold. Will my status change from Silver to Gold in the usual 48hr time frame that it takes for tier points to post? Have a long haul on Friday and I’d like to be Gold by then.

    The earlier in the day the more likely it will get picked up over night but if it’s later in the day it might not due to time zones.

Got a few 100k hilton points I’ve never used so not hugely familiar with their value. Looking to book Bristol AIRPORT Hampton which looks to be opposite the terminal, am I right in thinking 15k points for the night is good value when cash price is £120?

  Yes, quite regularly the cheapest Hilton redemption in the UK, and more than double the average redemption value (0.8p per point instead of ~0.33p).
