The HfP chat thread – Sunday 19th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Saw this question come up some time last week but I forgot which day it was and what the answer was.

We’re headed to Spain this week but my wife’s passport is still in her maiden name. Her NHS vax certificate is in her married name. What name do we put down on the Spanish PLF? And what name for the UK PLF when we come back?

    Thanks!

    • Josu says:

Went through IBZ today. They honestly barely look, you will be fine but I’d take a marriage certificate just for peace of mind.

    • Tracey says:

I thought the advice was that plf should match passport and take a marriage certificate to link with nhs vaccine certificate. If you had more time I would change name with GP, the vaccine certificate should update within a couple of days.

    • Lucie says:

Hi. How did you go on ? I have the same issue. Passport maiden name. NHS app married name. PLF not accepting vaccine veryocate name of maiden name. Which means I have to fill out PLF in married name. Which means my passport wont match my QR code. Nightmare.

Is there anyone in Tenerife just now who can see La Palma erupting?!

  • Rich says:

Bulb Energy is seeking a bailout, according to the FT.

I hadn’t bothered switching away because they put their prices up a month ago and guaranteed no more rises for 6 months. Fat lot of good if they’re not around any more!

    • BJ says:

According to the BBC four small firms are likely to go out of business this week.

    • Stephan says:

I do remember some people thinking Bulb would be fine. Even on a variable rate they were always surviving on thin margins. It is just the beginning unless something dramatic happens.

    • Youllnever says:

They’re saying that their prices are going up on October 1st though? https://bulb.co.uk/blog/energy-price-watch-were-changing-our-prices-aug-21

      • Rich says:

Yes, that was announced in August – along with a promise that they wouldn’t raise prices again for 6 months.

For reference, that hike took the price up to 3.95p/ kWh, and the best fix I can find right now is 5.5p.

        • Youllnever says:

I wouldn’t personally take their word for it, regardless of their good intentions. They’d be forced to put the price up if it otherwise meant their demise.

Good news for BA status holders with tier collection end date on 8 Jan/Feb/March 2022…
