The HfP chat thread – Thursday 16th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Really hoping Turkey will get moved to amber today… Called BA about booking a holiday for late September with them and they said there is a chance they might add some hotel availability in a few days if it turns amber

    • TimM says:

Turkey should have been moved last time. I have 6 weeks booked there in total this winter so I will be watching the announcement too!

    • Andrew says:

Apparently there might not be an announcement today, or just announce no change, and they will hold the travel announcements for next week for the 1 October major changes.

    • ChrisW says:

Very unlikely today – their new cases have risen over the past three weeks.

      • TGLoyalty says:

“Cases” shouldn’t be the only measure also it has a case rate LOWER than the U.K.

7 day average 23k for 85m people vs U.K. 31k for 70m people. They’ve also one of the largest suppliers of genome sequenced Covid samples in the world (all Delta)

63% have had one dose and 50% are fully vaccinated.

Ireland’s red list is 6 South American countries. What’s special about this Island vs that one?

  • Roger says:

Whatvare my optioyif BA fliyI booked (using part cash and part evoucher) drops in price after couple of days.
Can I call and ask for difference to be refunded or risk asking evoucher and make another cash booking in parallel?

  • Roger says:

    Damn auto correct there.

What are my options if Ba flights I booked….

  • rosie keeper says:

Hi do Hilton offer status match with Marriott , if so if I’m a plat bonvoy will they match to
    Diamond Hilton

    • VerdantBacon says:

Not officially, you can call or email to ask though. But you definitely won’t get match from mid tier Bonvoy to Honors top tier.

      • AL says:

statusmatcher.com will give you reviews from people who’ve tried in the past – have a look to see what Plats are getting. I suspect you’ll be offered a one-off challenge to Gold.

  • DZOO says:

Is it possible to request an eVoucher for the return leg of a booking having already flown the outbound on a cash flight-only booking?

    • AJA says:

I think so yes. But not sure of the value as it’s not just half the value of the ticket. Can you remember what BA charged you when booking the flights?

      • mr_jetlag says:

They did this early in the pandemic for me. APD and UK taxes take a chunk out of the cost so expect less than half / third of the total trip cost.

      • DZOO says:

Makes sense, and good to know possible thanks!

  • Paul Pogba says:

Did Rob mention he’d been on a podcast yesterday?

  • Raveon says:

Are Creation payments to beardy still going through as purchases? No nasty cash advance fee implemented yet?

  • Degsy says:

My first Morrison transaction has finally tracked with Amex this morning – purchase was dated 9th sept.

    • Hotelier says:

Same here – purchases on the 8th / 9th, started to get worried as last time got cash back next day!

    • Char Char says:

Missed a load from the start of September but all in august tracked, so 50% in total

    • Toby says:

Golly! So you did a few thousand in GC? So there is an upper limit….

    • Benilyn says:

@S – How much did you spend / over how much time?

    • Alan says:

Did they tell you that was the reason. I am up to almost £1,000 of savings. Perhaps time to stop?

    • TGLoyalty says:

They shut you down for c£2k spend ie what it takes for a couple hundred.

I’ve done £250 in a single transaction and not had an issue

Or do you mean a couple thousand …
