We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Re Amex, When you move credit limit from one card to another, how often can you do it – is there a number days I need to wait to do it again?

    • Ja says:

This is interesting. I didn’t know you could do it. How do you do it, how long does it take and will they definitely do it.

      Thanks

      • Benilyn says:

over chat, takes 15mins, they have never refused for me.

      • KZ says:

You can move your credit limit from one card to another, but a minimum credit limit of £750 needs to remain on each card. Eg card no. 1 has a £10,000 credit limit, of which you can move a maximum of £9250 to your other card.

Bit of a niche question, but am hoping someone might know!?

I have a redemption flight to Phuket, by SQ, they have changed my return leg, which means I have to stay at SIn (airside) for 10 hours!

Is there any scenario in which SQ agrees to change my final destination to Istanbul instead of LHR because of this change?

I’m SQ Gold if that means anything!?

    • Sam G says:

have you checked if there is a better London connection available? The only way I see them changing to Istanbul is if there are redemption seats available

Gold is nothing to SQ – need PPS before you are worthy of any special treatment and even then they’re very by the book IME!

Why don’t you call and ask what your options are? I’m 99% sure they are happy to listen to you and find a more suitable option.

      • Sam G says:

one tip is to chose the Mandarin option on the phone early in the morning UK time- this should get you to Singapore call centre (they’ll speak English) where you’ll have your best hope of getting some flexibility

        • Sina says:

Thanks, everyone, will give them a call!

The online chat service is fantastic. If you get to the point where they can’t help online (eg taking a credit card payment) *they* call *you*. No risk of wasted time. Take note BA!

  • Nick G says:

Anybody know how long roughly the bonus MR points for hitting £15k on the Amex gold take to post to the account before I cancel? Ta

  • Nathaniel says:

Hi. I currently have Amex Platinum Business, for which I received sign up bonus a few months ago.

We are eligible for sign up bonus for the following personal cards as our 24 month period has elapsed:
BA Amex/Platinum (for myself) and Platinum for my partner

In an ideal scenario I would refer my partner for Amex Platinum to take advantage of 18k MR referral and current sign up bonus of 60k MR points. However we are in the process of moving house which will likely complete by December – I did not think it was wise to apply for new credit to jeopardise mortgage application.

I am reluctant to continue paying £50 per month for my Amex business platinum as not really using any of the benefits (and I have capital on tap card to earn avios on current spend). Spoke to amex retentions who would not offer any incentive to stay.

Was hoping for advice on strategy moving forwards – to cancel Amex business platinum (to get pro rata refund) and start cycle for personal cards once I have moved house (but missing out on self referral bonus by referring wife)?

Large meeting room hire in London?

I would like to hire a large (30 people) meeting room (does not need to be formal, but should be private) in London for an evening (say 6pm to 10pm). My budget is around £200.

Is this possible at all? Any recommendations?

    Thanks

Hi, Anyone have any ideas what/when BA are going to do with 2-4-1 voucher expiry dates? I have two vouchers due to expire Jun22 (already extended 6mths) & Dec23, still too few options to use them. If BA continues to extend expiry date, will they also allow accumulation of more than 2 vouchers?

@anyone who may be interested – managed to get enrolled on the Hyatt Explorist status challenge (10 nights to retain status until Feb 2023, 20 nights for Globalist). Contacted the Director of Sales and Marketing of the local property, who, although initially mistakenly believed the offer was only for corporate members, enrolled me after I gave him details of the promotional period – members have until 31st of December to complete the challenge (during which they will have Explorist).

Re: Finnair website MMB being used to view and alter oneworld airline bookings, does anyone know if any of the Star Alliance carriers allows for something similar?
