The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 15th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

  • Jenny says:

What time is the red list review expected to be announced ?

  • Jenny says:

Also, a while back Amex had a membership offer with Urban Massage. Is there a decent alternative?

  • Jimmy says:

Just had a review email from curve.

Happy to send them the documents.

Anyone know how long it takes to complete the review.

    • Jimbob says:

Took them about a month, but I could use the account, while they investigated

    • Sina says:

It took 2 hours for me!

    • xcalx says:

      Me too.

      • xcalx says:

Email a bit vague as to where to send the documents, can it be done online. Thanks.

    • Si says:

I sent my docs last night following a very pointed email from Curve citing NS&I, MS and money recycling.

I doubt will take them too long to confirm their suspicions and realise I’m a lorry driver and not a Russian oligarch

      • Anna says:

If the HGV driver shortage continues it might shortly be more lucrative than being a Russian oligarch!
Though I doubt oligarchs worry to much about collecting points 🤣

        • Si says:

I don’t know how true this is, but I did hear Abramovich paid for Chelsea with Nectar points 🙂

          • Nick says:

One of BA’s top 5 customers refuses to join the Exec Club. Always said he didn’t need to…

          • Super Secret Stuff says:

@Nick That surely has to be the weirdest and most stupid flex ever

          • Jonathan says:

Is he a Premier though? In which case it makes no difference. I imagine he gets access to the Concorde team as well which is better than any regular status perks!

  • Relaxo says:

Has anyone stayed at Canopy Hilton London City. Wanted to know what the breakfast situation was for Gold members as not familiar with Canopy brand. Oddly, can’t find any reviews for it on Google maps. Considering staying there with wife on her bday.

    • BJ says:

Not stayed there but I considered it. Location doesn’t look great and be aware that it is pet-friendly if that is an issue for you one way or the other.

      • Rob says:

Is it even open? If it is, it has been open for a week at best.

        • Relaxo says:

Ahh you are right….taking reservations starting Oct 4th. My stay will be on 7th if I book. Hmm might be good to stay at brand spanking new hotel….

        • AL says:

It’s conveniently super-equidistant for my offices. If you wanted a reader review… 😉

      • TGLoyalty says:

Not sure what you mean It’s location seems fine about 5 mins walk from nearest tube and 10 mins from Tower of London/tower bridge etc

        Shoreditch and city close by

  • Hugh says:

Can I use an FTV in my wife’s name to pay for the return leg of a 121 booking in my name? She is my companion on the 121 booking, and I am a nominee on her BA account if that makes a difference!

    • Tracey says:

The FTVs are individual, so your wife’s can be used for a ticket in her name. If you were on the original booking then it should cover you too, though technically there should be 2 FTVs.

      • Anna says:

Is it from a flight only booking or BA holiday? If it’s the latter you can just email it later and get the money refunded.

    • Hugh says:

It’s from a flight, although we don’t yet have the FTV as have not yet cancelled the original booking. Just trying to decide whether to take the cash or an FTV!

  • Reney says:

A HSBC WE question, the supplementary card fee is £60 is that per card and per year? Thx

Currently doing the maths to decide whether it is worth it. Feels steep when amex do them for free.

    • SteveJ says:

Is this just to spend on or to gain other benefits? If just tonspend you can get around this by one person adding it to there Google/Apple pay or even behind Curve, whilst the other carries the physical card.

    • TGLoyalty says:

      Yes

Can’t think of any other reason to have the supp other than for lounge access which isn’t bad at £60 if partner travels a lot.

  • Patrycja says:

I am in Spain at the moment and quickly checked Scottish CTM website after reports that day 0- 2 tests might be scrapped before end of September. The website appears to be down. Hoping for good travel news today/tomorrow as I haven’t bought my ones yet🤞

    • Gtellez says:

Even if it doesn’t change you don’t need to buy through CTM anymore, now it is allowed in Scotland to use any provider approved by England, my brother arrived on Tuesday and got it through Randox for £43, home delivery and arrived in 48h the test (ordered last Sunday).

      • Patrycja says:

Randox is the plan! Just hoping the policy gets scrapped before we come back end of next week.good to know about timescales for Randox, thank you

  • Michelle says:

Hi, does anyone know a good email address to use for a complaint regarding a Hilton stay? I used the online form on the Hilton’s member website and this must have been forwarded direct to the hotel as I got a bog standard ‘come back and we’ll do better’ response from the hotels op manager. This is about a Spanish property. Thanks

    • A says:

The one I argued with (to no avail) when they cancelled six figures worth of points last year due to no activity, was hiltonhonors@hilton.com

      • AL says:

If you’re a Diamond, you can email diamond@hilton.com. I’m fairly sure these are picked up by the same team that does the rest of the HH addresses, but they’re sometimes a bit quicker sorting stuff out. As with everything Hilton, YMMV.

    • KBuffett says:

I’ve found Hilton’s Twitter team to be very responsive in the past, and they are happy to throw lots of points at you. Try and get the points and also free stay certificates from them. I complained about a £50 stay and used the free stay certificate at a £300 a night property. @hiltonhonors
