The HfP chat thread – Wednesday 15th September

We are running this daily chat thread on Head for Points during the coronavirus outbreak.

Historically, the daily ‘Bits’ articles were the de facto repository for random comments and questions.  With the news flow being lighter, we are running fewer ‘Bits’ articles.

The comments under this article are where you should post questions about travel and, indeed, anything else on your mind.  At this tricky time, and given that many of you are at home, we want the HfP community to have a place to chat.

Please only comment under the main articles on the site if your comment is directly related to the topic of the article.  This has long-term benefits as it keeps the commentary relevant for people who read those articles in the future.

Old chat threads are hidden from the HfP home page.  If you want to look for something in an old thread, click here.  This brings up all the articles in our ‘General’ category which includes the chat threads.

Does anyone know if Creation does DD payment adjustment like Amex does if the payments were paid off the same day the statement was created, or do they still charge the statement amount? Thanks!

    • Grant says:

I think they do adjust the amount providing the payment was made early enough. I’m going back a while though and it’s Creation, so it probably depends which way the wind is blowing.

    • Yorkie Aid says:

Yes they do adjust the DD amount if you’ve made partial payments before the due date. They won’t take anything if you’ve paid the statement balance in full.

Hi all! Anyone stayed at the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnic? If so thoughts/impressions please

    • Rich says:

Fantastic location, just outside the old town. Really nice room, crap exec lounge, no memory of the breakfast.

Would happily stay again for the room.

“However, he did not mention if there will be any quarantine requirements for international travellers once the capital city reopens.”

This’ll be interesting – good news if they don’t put daft quarantining requirements in place.

I can’t help wonder if this is more MS code and cucumbers relate to a certain gift card 😉🥒

Could anyone help me with some advice.

The lufthansa website has the following information.

Information for passengers on flights from United Kingdom

Please note that passengers on a flight from the United Kingdom to Frankfurt or Munich who have an international connecting flight now require a transit visa for Germany in some cases – even if they do not leave the airport in Germany and are only in the transit area. Lufthansa therefore asks all passengers to inform themselves in detail about the regulations before departure.

I have a booking in October. LHR – FRA – RUH (RTN).

Do I really need a transit visa with a UK passport? Why on earth?

      What does the FCDO say?

      • PaulW says:

Refers me to a German government website where it says:

Transit through Germany to travel to a country outside of the EU

Citizens of countries outside of the EU may enter Germany to travel to a country outside of the EU if the following conditions are met:

        the traveller remains in Germany (as country of transit) only as long as absolutely necessary to travel directly to the country of destination or another transit country;
the traveller is permitted to enter the country of destination or another transit country, if applicable.
The traveller must provide evidence on entry that the conditions (1) and (2) listed above have been met. Airline or other travel tickets, etc. may be presented to meet condition (1). To meet condition (2), travellers can present authorisation of entry to the country of destination (e.g. a visa) or an identity document or residence authorisation for the country of destination, for example.

        I’m still puzzled….

        • AL says:

Based on this, I’m inclined to say that you don’t need a transit visa because your onward tickets will meet (1) and your proof of eligibility to enter (e.g. passport, visa etc) will meet (2).

Further, FRA has a transit area that allows passengers to travel on to a connection without accessing the Schengen zone, which makes a transit visa – assuming you aren’t coming from a list of certain countries – unnecessary. Those certain countries and more at https://www.auswaertiges-amt.de/en/aamt/zugastimaa/buergerservice/faq/33-transit/606710.

    • TGLoyalty says:

I think it’s only if you’ve spent more than 90 of the last 180 days in the Schengen area.

      • PaulW says:

        Thanks for the replies folks.

I was up late at night wondering but I think that would make sense based on what I read. I wish it would be clear.

I got an email reply from the German Border Police saying I wouldn’t need a transit visa. He seemed surprised that I would ask such a question but couldn’t explain anything.

I guess we will have many more delights to look forward with a combination of Brexit and Coronavirus!

“Sainsbury’s will offer lower prices to customers using its digital loyalty scheme and self-scanner service, deepening ties with shoppers and cutting costs in the latest wave of innovation to hit the industry.
Sainsbury’s said that from next Wednesday, Nectar app members shopping in stores will be able to access lower prices on a selection of up to ten branded and Sainsbury’s own-brand products selected for them on a weekly basis.“
